Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 773
Chapter 773: Anticipation
Mark could hear the sound of battle going on in other parts of the island, and Mark knew that most of them were battles between the Americans and Russians. If all of the Russians could transform like this, then that could only mean they were going to be a lot more troublesome than Mark thought they would be. But that was only for the weaker members of the team like Alpha Six and Alpha Three who didn’t have much power. Arit, Luna, Alec, and the stronger Alphas probably won’t have that problem.
[I didn’t think there’d be superhumans changing into anima. I thought only humans could do that.]
Mark looked down at the man he was sitting on while listening to Pat. It was really surprising that a superhuman was able to change into an anima the way this one was. And the crazy part of it was the fact that the Russian leader didn’t use his blessing at all after he transformed. Instead, the man used some sort of fire breath that he released from his mouth.
Mark guessed that this meant the anima couldn’t use their own blessing after changing into an anima. Instead, they would gain some different variant of the same power. But that was just an assumption. Mark wouldn’t be able to find out if he was right or not until he fought enough of them.
Mark put his hand up to his ear and spoke up.
“Pat, what does it look like on the other side of the island? I got separated from the others.”
Pat was still back at the lodging, watching the channel that was showing the tournament on TV while scanning the entire island with the MDS, but Pat didn’t answer for a long time as he saw something strange happening in the eastern part of the island. There were multiple anima surrounding that region. They all seemed to be moving in an organized format, and there were even more anima randomly popping up on his radar like they were suddenly coming into existence.
Pat narrowed his eyes in confusion before he spoke up to Mark.
[Mark, there’s something strange going on at the eastern part of the island. I think the anima are doing something there, so you should check it out first.]
Mark frowned as he remembered the Russian leader saying that there were other humans on this island from the syndicate. Could it be related to what Pat was talking about?
Mark knew that Pat was aware of how serious the situation here was, so Pat wouldn’t just bring up something like this if it wasn’t really important!
Mark got up to move, but before Mark could go anywhere, the sound of a large sonic boom echoed from somewhere above him! Mark felt a sense of danger tingling from somewhere at the back of his mind and he looked up quickly with wide eyes!
This was the first time Mark would be feeling a sense of danger from an attack in months, so Mark immediately knew that whatever it was that brought up this feeling must be very powerful! And once Mark saw what it was, he felt his mouth splitting into a mad grin!
“MEGUMI YOSHIDA!”
TOOM!
TOOM!
Two sonic booms echoed through the air as Megumi raced down towards Mark like a fucking bullet! Her sword was already drawn back into the air, and just as she was about to hit the ground, Megumi brought her sword down in a massive arc straight at Mark’s gauntlet!
CLANG!
BOOM!!
The entire area blew up in a spray of dust and pure mana!
All over the world, people were going crazy as the most anticipated fight of the tournament started off immediately! The people viewing the tournament had been surprised when the American and Russian teams seemed to go against all of the rules by jumping off the plane at the same time. When Mark and the Russian leader got into a fight, the viewers were excited as they thought that this was just a tactic that the Americans were using to try and reduce the number of contestants in the tournament. But then the screen had gone blank all over the world the moment the Russian leader was about to transform into an anima.
The Japanese media were in control of the videos being broadcast for the tournament, so they had access to any footage that was taken a few minutes earlier than everyone else in the world. This meant that the Japanese media team saw what was about to happen before the rest of the world, and they pulled the plug on the fight between Mark and the Russian leader before changing to another fight so that no one would know what had happened.
Showing a superhuman willingly changing himself into an anima was one surefire way to cause mass panic and all the directors in the Superhuman Alliance agreed that it was better to keep the transformation away from public eyes.
The viewers were all curious about why the media would cut off the fight like that. They were all invested in Mark’s fight, so they were stunned when it went off, but they didn’t have much room to complain since the fight they started to watch was the one between Luna and some powerful Eldritch class anima.
That fight had been shown for a few minutes before the media finally saw that Megumi was arriving on the island and they shifted the footage right back to where Mark and Megumi were!
The world went wild once they saw it! The camera showing the fight was more than two kilometers away, but it could zoom in and show the expression on the faces of the fighters in HD!
The large dust cloud that rose from the fight spread across the area quickly, and as it slowly cleared, it showed Megumi with the same impassive look pressing against Mark with her sword! Mark was using his gauntlet to block the sword, and Megumi was surprised when Mark immediately spoke up.
“How long do I have?”
Megumi thought that Mark was talking to her, but she didn’t understand that Mark was actually talking to Pat! On the other side of the comm, Pat spoke up quickly.
[I’d say about ten minutes.]

Mark wondered if he couldn’t just shake off Megumi and go to the eastern area. Mark really wanted to have this fight, but he also knew that it was important for him to find out what was going on with the anima. Putting his own desire to fight over the safety of the world was just stupid.
But from the look on Megumi’s face as well as the intense pressure Mark could feel coming from her sword, Mark knew that it would be very hard to shake her off. Megumi hadn’t been seeking him out just for show all this time. Mark realized that she wanted this fight just as badly as he did.
Mark spoke into the comms.
“Give me five minutes.”
[Alright boss, just finish this off and move to the eastern area.]
Mark grunted.
“No, tell Luna to look into it and keep me posted. If it turns out to be too dangerous, then let me know and I’ll hurry up.”
[Sure thing, captain.]

The comms went off and Mark’s mouth split into a mad grin as his pressure intensified!
