Chapter 781: KING and ROOK
“Has the QUEEN truly been defeated by the mind of a mere human?”

The creature spoke with an accent that made it obvious that it was not used to speaking in English, but its pronunciation was good enough for them to tell exactly what it was saying.

The QUEEN in Arit’s head screamed!

‘I didn’t lose to anyone! I chose my side! I chose my KING! Tell her!’

Arit ignored the QUEEN as she glared at the newcomer. Arit glanced back at Tina and saw that Tina had finally gotten rid of the hair that tied itself around her leg, and she was now getting back up to her feet. Good. They were going to need to work together if they wanted to stand a chance against this monster. Arit stood up to her full height and used a hand to fix the right side of her hair. In that brief moment, Arit was able to click on the comm in her right ear to send out a general broadcast, and she started to speak.

“What are you?”

The creature tilted its head to one side in amusement before it responded.

“I am one of the KING’s servants. I am the Bishop.”

WOOSH!

Suddenly, the Bishop moved, and Arit’s instincts screamed at her to take a step back as the Bishop suddenly appeared right in front of her face! Arit could only lean far back away from the Bishop as her eyes widened in shock!

‘She’s fucking fast!’

If the Bishop had a mouth, Arit knew that it would be smiling at her.

“Now that I’ve gotten a closer look at you, I can say only one thing. You are very disappointing.”

The Bishop’s mana surged to life, and Arit also released as much power as possible in preparation for a counterattack, but before either one could attack, a loud shout echoed through the clearing!

“Celestial Fury!”

Tina screamed at the top of her lungs at the same time that the Bishop’s hair surged to life around her and created a gale of debris, and at the next moment, the entire island rumbled in the shadow of blue lightning!

BZZZTTTT!!

KA-BOOOMMM!

[What are you?]

[I am one of the KING’s servants. The Bishop. Now that I have gotten a closer look at you, I can only say one thing: You are very disappointing.]

Mark had been moving through the forest to where Pat pointed out to him before his fight with Megumi when his comms buzzed and these two sentences came through. Mark had no idea what the Bishop was and he didn’t know what King she was talking about, but Mark knew that Arit wouldn’t have turned on her comms for him to hear this unless she was in a situation that she couldn’t get herself out of!

“Pat! What does it look like over there?!”

Mark shouted out quickly once he heard the message from Arit, and Pat answered immediately!

[They’re holding out fine and Hao is on his way there now! This Bishop killed Alpha Six already and she’s interested in Arit for some reason! I sent Thomas a message to go help out as well, but he’s stuck in a fight against another Eldritch on the other side of the island. Even Luna’s packed right now but she says she’ll try to get away from the anima to get here as quickly as possible! You don’t have to worry, just go!]

Mark immediately honed in on Arit’s mana that was a few kilometers away from him and he crouched and blasted off the ground to get there as quickly as possible! Mark also noticed Luna a few miles in the opposite direction from where he was, and Mark knew that Luna must’ve also heard what Arit said over the comm. Luna wasn’t moving yet, and since Pat already said that Luna was stuck in another fight against multiple anima, Mark wasn’t expecting any help from her right now.

Mark narrowed his eyes as he tried to pinpoint Arit in the distance, but another part of Mark’s brain suddenly warned him of incoming danger, and Mark was forced to refocus on what was around him! The [Ignorance of the Death God] did not activate, which told Mark that whatever was coming was not life-threatening, but the mere fact that his instincts warned him about it was enough for Mark to cut his jump short!

WOOSH!!

Hundreds of spikes flew towards Mark from the distance! Each one of them was going fast enough to be invisible to the naked eye, but Mark was able to see them and he immediately activated [Aegis of Area] before the spikes could get close enough!

Thonk! Thonk! Thonk! Thonk!

The spikes slammed into the shield, and Mark was shocked when he noticed that they actually managed to pierce through the [Aegis of Area] and leave a small indentation in it! That could only mean that whatever it was that threw them had to be at least as strong as an EPIC Rank! Mark’s mana had still not recovered completely from his fight with Megumi, so Mark deactivated the Aegis once he was done with it to preserve mana as much as possible!

Mark landed on the ground and looked far into the distance in the direction where the spikes came from to try and see what shot him out of the sky. Mark needed to finish this as quickly as possible so that he would be able to get to Arit, but he didn’t feel too rushed since he knew that Pat would alert him if things ever got out of hand. And since Hao was also going over there, then Mark knew that Arit was at least going to have good backup. Hao was more than powerful enough to handle anything that this island would throw at him.

Mark decided to focus on the battle in front of him!

[Achilles’ Heel] has been activated!

The world blurred into varying shades of red and grey! There were hundreds of red dots surrounding the area around Mark, and Mark noticed that these were random anima that had hidden away because they didn’t want to fight against him. Mark ignored those ones and turned his head in the direction where he was sure the spikes came from, and Mark saw something completely grey running toward him at breakneck speeds!

‘It doesn’t have any weaknesses?’

Mark’s brow furrowed in shock as he realized that whatever was coming at him didn’t have any red spots to show that it had a weakness, and Mark jumped back as the creature burst out from the trees and screeched loudly in agitation!

It was a spider-based anima that was nearly as large as a freaking building! Just moving through the forest was enough to send trees toppling to the ground and cause the ground under Mark’s feet to rumble and shake! The monster had two large heads. The one on the left had four red eyes, and the one on the right had eight, and its legs all had sharp metal tips that dug into the ground and warned Mark against getting struck by any one of them.

“So you’re the human KING—” The first head spoke.

“- It’s an honor to finally meet you!” added the second head.

Mark glared at the foolish creature and unleashed the full force of his aura upon it!
