Mark watched as the numbers in his Mortal Legend skill rose faster and faster, each second it would climb and Mark started to wonder what was going on. Was there some sort of mass indoctrination going on?
Mark remembered that there was a cult that had decided to follow him, but Mark didn’t hear anything about them after the first time they came up to him.
Mark only knew that there were people out there who were trying to get others to join some cult, and he didn’t bother putting much mind to it since he was so busy fighting against Anima around the world.
Mark had no idea that it was actually his action of going around the world that made it so easy for the Cult of Vanitas to spread the word of the cult the way they had. As Mark moved from country to country, the cult also moved to the countries that Mark went to, spreading the word to those that Mark had saved and trying their best to bring them into the cult. Many members of Mark’s guild were also members of the cult, so it wasn’t hard for them to follow Mark around whenever he was on the move.
And now, all of the cult members from all around the world were coming together as one, praying for Mark’s victory and granting him all of their faith so that his Mortal Legend skill would increase even faster.
Mark watched as the numbers rose and he couldn’t help the small grin that rose on his lips. The thought that there were millions of people out there who were entirely focused on wishing for Mark’s success and praying that he came out of this fight on top was very motivating and Mark closed his eyes once more as he just allowed the numbers of followers on the screen to keep increasing. Mark had been watching the world through the eyes of one of the birds that were around the jet, but with the speed that they were going, Mark wasn’t able to see much before he was out of range from the bird’s mind-link.
According to what Pat said, the Germans that were being held hostage were in the millions. There were so many of them being held hostage that Mark didn’t think it would be possible for him to get them all off the continent before the fight began. Mark told the Anima King that the only way they were going to fight was if there were no humans and Anima on the land. The Anima King agreed to this, so Mark told Pat to contact the airlines all around the world and find a way to get the humans out of Germany.
[Mark. Are you there?]
Mark hummed as he heard Luna’s voice through the comms. Luna was still in America and she was about to start heading out to join the guild for their own battle at the Bermuda Triangle, but she felt like calling Mark one more time.
“Hey, babe.”
[Hi. Heard you’re close to Germany already. I wanted to tell you to be careful. You’re the strongest man I know, Mark. You’re the one I fell in love with. I know you can beat this and come back. So please, beat this and come back.]
Mark hummed again as he heard all this. There was a sense of expectation that appeared in Mark’s heart from Luna’s words, and instead of dragging him down with its weight, it lifted Mark up and raised the stakes of the battle. Mark wasn’t fighting just for himself. If he didn’t win here, then not only would the world be in jeopardy, but his girls would also be alone. Mark couldn’t leave them alone.
[There’s someone else here, Mark. Are you still there?]
“Yeah, I’m here.”
Mark was leaning back with his head resting on the hull of the plane. His eyes were closed and he was relaxed as he listened to Luna hand the comm over to someone else. The voice that came through made Mark smile.
[Big brother! Where are you!?]

Mark almost chuckled, but he just calmly sighed to calm himself again before he spoke.
“I’m going to be busy for a while, Talia. Are you being a good girl for James and his family?”
Talia sniffled from the other side of the phone and Mark immediately knew that she was crying. Mark felt his hand tighten into a fist, but he kept himself calm.
“Hey, Talia. Come on, don’t cry. What did I tell you when I was leaving?”
Talia sniffled again.
[You… you told me to wait for you. You said you would come back.]
Mark hummed in confirmation.
“Exactly, so just wait for me a little while longer, okay baby?”
[Mhm!]
Talia nodded on the other side of the phone as she tried her best to clean her tears. Even though Talia was only a child, she could still sense the tension from everyone around her, and in a way, she knew that Mark was going to do something very dangerous.
This was the same way Talia felt when her grandfather was leaving all those years ago to fight and never came back.
Talia wanted to tell Mark to come back and not leave her like her grandfather did, but she was a good girl who listened to her elders. Talia just said goodbye and handed the comms back as she went to hug James.
Luna sighed into the comms and Mark laughed as he heard her sniffle.
“Are you crying, babe?”
Luna laughed.
[Oh hush, I couldn’t help it. I’m about to head out with the rest of the guild and agents. We’re taking all the planes we have, but there’s only about three hundred of us. It’ll be a hard battle unless we get more help.]
“Yeah, I spoke to Pat about that. There are superhuman alliance agents from Japan heading there now. I don’t know if it’ll be enough but… just be careful.”
[I know. I’ll be careful. Good luck babe. Bye.]
Mark hummed once more before he finally clicked off the call. Even though Mark was going to fight against a powerful enemy, he was more concerned with the Vanguard guild since the guild was going to be fighting against an unknown enemy.
Pat’s analysis of the structure in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle didn’t go well because of how deep underwater it was. Pat wasn’t able to figure out if there were Anima in the structure or how many there were. The only thing that they were sure of was that the structure was definitely where all of the recent Anima appearances from the ocean had originated from, so they would be meeting a serious battle when they got there!
