Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 819
Chapter 819: Individual Battles
[Mark, you’re a few minutes out from the shoreline. How are you holding up?]
Pat’s voice came through the comms as Mark got closer and asked Mark how he was doing. Mark just grunted in response and told Pat that he was as good as he’d ever be.
“Forget about that. How are things looking with the Syndicate? Has there been any movement from them yet?”
Pat was in one of the hospital rooms and having his vitals checked by one of the nurses to make sure that he didn’t suffer any internal wounds from the explosion that he was in.
Pat should’ve done this a long time ago, but he was so busy working on the notes that Mark gave him that he didn’t have time for anything like that.
The nurse finally finished checking on Pat, and Pat thanked her before he answered Mark.
[No, there’s been nothing yet. The anima in Germany are staying put with all the hostages that they took, and the anima-human hybrids around the world are still attacking like normal. But I feel things will change once they catch a whiff of what we’re doing. This is going to be one hell of a fight.]
Mark hummed. Mark already knew that the superhumans were going to face a lot of opposition at the Syndicate’s base.
That was why he sent Megumi ahead to provide support for them. Mark didn’t fully understand it yet, but he just felt like if Megumi was there, things would turn out better. She was one of the only people that he trusted to protect everyone in his place. Luna had power and skill as well, but Megumi was just on a different level.
The two friends delved into a calm silence as they both allowed the reality of the moment to dawn on them—the realization of what they were about to do and how long they had come to get to this point.
Neither of them needed to say anything more to the other since they weren’t the most emotional pair in the world. Mark knew exactly what it was that Pat wanted to say to him. Mark knew that Pat wanted to tell him not to die, just like Mark’s girls had said, but Mark also knew that Pat wouldn’t say it because Pat just wasn’t that sort of person. Mark was grateful for that.
“ETA is in three minutes! Get ready! There are anima in the area, so I won’t be able to land! You’ll have to jump!”
The pilot’s voice came from in front of the jet, and Mark released another silent sigh as he finally opened his eyes. Pat also heard the announcement from the other side of the comms and only said a few words.
[Good luck, Mark.]
“Yeah.”
Click!
The comms clicked off, and Mark stood and walked to the back of the plane as it slowly started to open up to reveal the darkening sky outside. Mark had been fighting for close to two days straight now, but he couldn’t feel any tiredness. Instead, he was more energetic than ever before.

With the support of the entire world at his back, Mark prepared to head towards his destiny.
…
[America. With Luna and Alec Ben.]
The airport was packed with superhumans. Luna and Alec Ben stood at the exit of an airport and watched as hundreds of superhumans boarded many jet-engine planes that had been parked for departure. The planes had all been provided by the Vanitas company and government officials, so they were all very fast.
Both Luna and Alec Ben were silent as they just waited for the last of the superhumans to board so that they could also get in. The superhumans here were all either members of the Vanguard Guild or the Superhuman Alliance, with very few of them being from other guilds around the country. The news of what was about to happen had spread like wildfire to all of the people in the country, and after the announcement for help with attacking the Syndicate, Luna thought that there would be many volunteers.
However, she was surprised when most of the large guilds in the country didn’t even bother putting up any members for the mission.
It was a testament to just how terrified everyone was of the current situation.
The fact that not just a single country, but the entire world was at risk made people fearful, and many of them who didn’t want to risk their lives decided that they weren’t going to bother.
Many superhumans in the country hadn’t been fighting against anima because they wanted to save people. They only joined the fight because they wanted to make money to take care of themselves and their families. They didn’t feel any obligation to save the world.
But the members of the Vanguard Guild were different. Those who joined the Vanguard Guild had joined because they believed in what Mark’s mission was, and this was the moment they had been waiting for. All of the members of the Vanguard Guild from all over the world had given their word that they would come for the battle, and right now, the departures weren’t just happening in America—they were happening at every major airport and seaport in the world as superhumans headed straight for the Bermuda Triangle.
“You’re tense.”
Alec spoke from his place beside Luna, and Luna turned to look at him in mild surprise before she realized that she had been unconsciously squeezing her hand into a fist at her side all this while.

Luna released a silent breath as she unclenched her fist, and Alec just nodded in understanding before he spoke.
“I’ve never seen you this tense before a fight before. I don’t think this is what’s stressing you out. You’re afraid for him, aren’t you?”
Luna ran her hand over her face. She had tied her hair into a bun behind her so that it wouldn’t bother her during the fight, so her bare neck was showing through the white T-shirt she was wearing, drawing some attention from the men around.
Luna didn’t want to admit that she was afraid for Mark because it would just mean that she thought there was a chance that he wouldn’t make it back, but she knew that she couldn’t deny it.
She was terrified for Mark.
Alec took Luna’s silence as agreement, and he turned back to watching the superhumans board the planes as he spoke.
“You don’t think he’ll win.”
“I never said that.”
“But you thought it. It’s written all over your face.”
Luna glared at Alec, and Alec just shrugged.
“If you don’t think he’ll lose, then there’s no need for you to be tense. Mark is fighting for the world, but the world has its own battle to fight. You have your own battle to fight. Focus on the here and now. You’re one of our strongest fighters, Luna. We need you to be at a hundred percent if we’re going to stand a chance to win this. Get your head on straight.”
Alec only said this much before they were called by one of the Superhuman Alliance agents at the side to board a jet that had been prepared for them. The jet they were to enter was faster than the other ones so that the strongest members of the superhumans would get there first.
Luna watched Alec walk away with a small frown on her face, but the frown didn’t last long before she just sighed and ran a hand across her face again. Alec was right. If she let her emotions get the better of her here, then there was a chance that she would make a mistake that would cost them this battle. Mark was fighting for them, and they had to make sure they didn’t lag behind. They had to fight for themselves as well.
