Chapter 834: Absorption
Mark turned around with far more effort than he wanted before he slowly got to his feet.

Mark was tired and thirsty, and there was a slight darkness invading the edges of his vision to show that he had suffered a concussion, but Mark could tell that the Anima King was no better off.

‘He’s missing an arm. Serves him fucking right.’

The Anima King had lost its left arm and a significant portion of its left rib was exposed. There was a slight wobble in its step when it tried to take a step forward and Mark felt a grin coming on his face as the Anima King fell to a knee after only taking one step.

The Anima King stayed like this for a short while and Mark used this moment to take in the damage done to his body. His rib was broken. That was the first thing Mark noticed once he felt his internal organs. There was a bone sticking into Mark’s left lung, and that was what caused the heavy breathing earlier, but Mark wasn’t concerned about that.

He couldn’t heal it without taking out the bone, and that would take too long, so Mark would have to fight without healing it.

Mark’s broken hand was already back to roughly 80 percent of what it was, and Mark stopped the healing as he clenched and unclenched his fist to test its durability.

Mark didn’t want to waste too much mana—he didn’t have too much mana left to waste.

Mark only had this much mana when he glanced at his tab, but Mark could feel his strength coming back to him even more as the [Mortal Legend] skill gave Mark more power from the people who were following him.

Mark turned to look at the Anima King again and he saw the Anima King looking down at where his missing arm should be. There was a surge of mana in the area as the Anima King tried to heal the arm, but Mark’s grin just widened as he felt the mana die out after a few seconds.

Just like Mark didn’t have enough mana to waste, the Anima King didn’t have enough mana either. The Anima King must have realized that it would be foolish to waste all that mana on healing when an enemy was right in front of it.

The distance between Mark and the Anima King was about five hundred meters, and their eyes met as they both began to gather mana in their bodies. Their mana surged across the land in an oppressive manner that would have choked and killed anyone that was nearby!

Even in their injured state, both of them still possessed enough power and sheer destructive capability to lay waste to entire cities!

The ground under Mark’s feet rumbled and shook and Mark knew that it was because the entire eastern side of the continent where he was standing was already beginning to shift away from the rest of the European continent. Mark didn’t have time to think about that as he kept his eyes on the Anima King for any sort of movement.

But then, suddenly, Mark felt his brow furrow as the Anima King’s mana began to surge once again! The mana grew in intensity and volume as it began to push back against Mark’s mana, making Mark realize in growing dread that it was happening again.

Pat was watching the fight between Mark and the Anima King with rapt attention, and just like Mark, Pat noticed how the Anima King seemed to be on his last legs after the attack that split the continent.

The Anima King had even almost fallen over from the strain.

But when the Anima King suddenly began to gain some strength at an astounding pace, Pat couldn’t help but furrow his brow in shock as he wondered what the hell was going on! The Anima King seemed to get a second wind, and the wound that had carved itself into his ribs seemed to be slowly healing from the mana that he was regaining!

Pat was confused about this for a while, but a voice suddenly spoke up from Pat’s comms and drew his attention.

[Pat, there’s something happening at the Bermuda Triangle! Luna said that the anima are dying!]

‘What?’

Pat was surprised by what Grace said. After a while of working with both Mark and Luna, Pat decided that it was better for him to just focus on Mark and leave Grace to keep an eye on the fight happening at the Bermuda Triangle for him.

What the hell did Grace mean that the anima were dying?

Pat immediately switched his feed to the one showing the fight happening at the Bermuda Triangle and Pat watched through his MDS as the red dots showing the anima fighting the humans started to go out one after the other. It wasn’t a slow or steady process. One moment, the anima was there, and the next moment, the anima’s mana was completely gone as it fell to the ground, dead.

Pat’s mind whirled quickly as he tried to understand what this meant.

The superhumans fighting also seemed shocked by what was happening, but they didn’t have time to figure anything out since they had a lot more anima to fight. But Pat had the time to figure it out and as he thought, his eyes strained towards the Anima King who was slowly gaining back his strength, and Pat’s eyes widened!

‘He’s absorbing it!?’

Pat came to a realization at that moment and he quickly clicked his comm and put a call out to Mark! Mark didn’t need to answer the call before the connection was formed and Pat shouted to Mark!

“Mark! You need to kill him! He’s absorbing mana from dead anima to grow stronger!”

On the other side of the call, Mark’s eyes widened as he also seemed to piece all the parts of the puzzle together.

Was that why the King seemed to be growing stronger all this time?

The Anima King was absorbing the mana from all the anima that had been dying in the fight and the more anima the humans killed, the more powerful he became!

And now that he was so weak, he was actively killing the other anima just to replenish his strength!

Mark immediately locked in as he crouched into a ready position! The rib in his lung shifted and Mark ignored the pain from all his injuries as lightning surged across his body! Mark was not going to allow this bastard to get his strength back! Mark took a deep breath and sighed as he prepared himself to go all out, and in the next moment, Mark vanished!

Mark flashed forward faster than anyone could follow, and the Anima King was in the middle of trying to raise his hand up in defense when Mark’s fist slammed into its cheek!

Mark heard a loud crack echo through the region and he flexed his hand to make sure it wasn’t his fist that broke! The Anima King had suffered many injuries to his jaw in the fight so far, so this punch actually managed to destroy the jaw completely!

The Anima King was blown back by the punch and he tumbled across the ground for miles before he stopped himself using his good hand! The other hand was slowly starting to form again as his mana replenished faster, and the Anima King turned to look at it in anger as he willed it to heal faster! He needed both hands to handle the human King!

DOOM!

Mark was there once again!

Lightning streaked across the clouds as Mark activated his skill, and as Mark slammed into the Anima King, his body attracted all the lightning from the air, shooting it into the Anima King like a lightning rod!
