“Pat… I told you to shut up.”

Pat’s eyes widened in shock, and he felt a laugh bubble up from somewhere inside him as he heard that voice! It was Mark! He was alive!

[Oh, you fucking beautiful bastard! You’re alive! I can’t believe you’re fucking alive! Oh, fuck, I thought you were dead! Hahahahahaha!]

Mark’s body twitched as he tried his best to turn his head around, but there was nothing left in Mark’s body. Mark was spent and completely empty of any and all energy.

He couldn’t even move a fucking finger.

Mark could feel from his body that he had lost his right hand. Mark closed his eyes for a moment to come to terms with this before he gazed on the body of the Anima King who was a few meters away from him. The body was not moving at all, and its lifeless eyes stared up at a sky without any sign of life.

The storm that the both of them had caused with their fight began to clear out, and Mark realized in surprise that the sun was already rising in the sky without his knowledge. The sun slowly cast its light on Mark’s face, and Mark felt a small sigh escape from his lips.

He won.

Mark blinked in surprise as he saw all of these messages pop up on his tab. Mark hadn’t even realized that he didn’t get a mission tab from the system when he started to fight with the Anima King. Mark was so focused on the fight that he didn’t care about anything else. Not even the system.

So there had been a mission all along, and the system was only going to show it to me after I won?

Mark felt a small laugh bubbling up from inside him as he just stared at the screen. Mark was still lying on the ground without being able to move, but he couldn’t help but laugh.

Even now, the system never failed to piss Mark off.

Mark felt concrete under his cheek as he slowly felt himself getting back to consciousness.

Mark’s eyes slowly began to open, and the first thing he noticed was that the light was far too bright! The light assaulted his eyes and made him close them, and Mark wished that the sun would just go down so he wouldn’t be blinded.

The next time Mark opened his eyes, he was shocked to notice that it was no longer day.

‘Did I fall asleep?’

Mark wondered if he had somehow been knocked out in that brief moment when he wished for less sun, but Mark knew that it wasn’t the case, and he slowly got to his feet as he felt strength returning to his body.

Mark looked around and noticed that he was in an arena of some sort. The arena was a square of about two hundred meters in length on each side, and it had been created from white stone that gleamed in the moonlight. There were four pillars, one on each corner of the square, and those pillars had been crafted from pure silver with the image of leaves and vines carved into the surface of the metal, like murals.

Beyond the arena, there was nothing at all, and Mark wondered if he hadn’t gone crazy. Where was he? Suddenly, Mark’s eyes caught sight of the new notification that had opened up on the side of his system, and Mark lost interest in where he was as he started to read.

As Mark read, his eyes just got wider and wider. It was a surreal feeling that surged through Mark, a realization Mark didn’t know how to react to—the fact that he was now effectively a god.
