Chapter 435: The first mate?
Chapter 435

[Time limit: 30 minutes]

He was late. Wei Jun couldn’t help but curse as he struck the academy barrier again. He wasn’t holding back in any way, nor was he giving anyone a chance to attack him. While the original plan was to regroup, he had no choice but to hurry up to the academy because he could feel it. He could feel something bad was about to happen to Xia Lu.

“Fire!”

“Do not let him pass!!”

Spells rained down on him, which would have usually been bad for him, but his body was now strong enough to reject mana on its own.

Of course, that only stood for the low-level mana spells. Truly strong, such as…

[Blaze]

A sixth circle spell that fell on Wei Jun because he refused to move from his spot, as the barrier was already showing signs of falling apart, delivered quite a bit of damage.

“ARGH!”

His skin melted, and his flesh surfaced from underneath. The heat was enough to harm Wei Jun, who had been used to the heat for a long time. And if that wasn’t enough…

[Thunder god’s descent]

A seventh circle spell. Not many were capable of doing this, and even in the academy, there were only two people who could cast seventh circle spells.

One of such people wasn’t present at the moment, but soon would be, and the second one was none other than Clarissa, Natasha’s mother.

“KUGH!!!”

As the thunder fell on him, Wei Jun felt like his body had entirely shut down. His mind, his vessels, and even his organs, for a moment, shut down, causing him to black out completely.

But…

Boom!

His hand moved on its own, as if programmed to do so. It collided with the barrier and…

Crack!

Crack!

Shatter…

The barrier shattered under his enormous power. Not to mention the earlier attacks were too close to the barrier as well, causing the barrier to take damage from the attacks of the very people it was perched to protect.

“Bwah!!!”

Wei Jun let out a loud gasp as he sucked in air hungrily, his body felt like as if it was breaking down to micro pieces. It wasn’t like he was complacent or had underestimated the magicians. His goal was simple. Very simple, actually.

And he had succeeded in doing so, disregarding everything else. Yet, even then, he hadn’t expected him to take that much damage. His Qi barrier was on, and his stats were empowered by Qi as well.

Not just that, a slight bit of [Veil of Death] was also covering his body, reducing attacks greatly, but even then, a Qi commander, a seventh ranked cultivator who should have been on the same scale as Wei Jun had managed to reduce his health by almost eighty percent even with all the countermeasures.

But he wasn’t the only one who was taken aback.

Those in the academy were shocked, too. A cultivator had taken a seventh circle spell head-on and survived. No matter how enormous his power was, seventh circle spells were no joke. If cast properly, a seventh circle earth grade spell was enough to cause an earthquake throughout a small city.

That attack that Clarissa had just used was enough to kill two cultivators of commander rank.

She hadn’t held back. She hadn’t held back at all.

“Prepare meteor.” She said under her breath. She had realized it fully now. Wei Jun was someone to take lightly. Even if the ancestor were to come out now and join forces with Clarissa and the headmaster, this battle wouldn’t be easy.

And then there was the threat of the reinforcements. She didn’t know why the ancestor wasn’t coming out, but she knew she had to buy time before any of the two possibilities, reinforcements from either side, were to come.

“What?” McCalligan wasn’t certain he had heard it correctly. Had their head professor, the sole person in command after the headmaster had issued a command, a command that was only to be used against those who were truly strong, such as the lunatic of the Huanan empire, Song Huan.

Using that spell against Wei Jun Ruan simply meant one thing. Wei Jun was strong enough as their headmaster.

While their conjecture wasn’t wrong because Wei Jun wasn’t as strong as him but just had a defense that couldn’t be easily breached, but the fact couldn’t be ignored that he could take the full brunt of a seventh circle spell, the attribute of which was lightning at that, and was still standing on his two feet, although a little groggy.

“Prepare Meteor!”

The order was passed in an instant. Wei Jun was still trying to recollect himself, so he wasn’t able to move instantly upon hearing that, but he began to prepare all of his countermeasures. He didn’t need to be told what Meteor was. From how the people of the academy were moving, it was clear it wouldn’t be something to take so lightly.

Clarissa stood in the middle on top of the castle walls while eight professors of the sixth circle surrounded her. They began to collect their mana and converge it on top of Clarissa, who began to manipulate mana to her will.

“Keep him busy!”

McCalligan, and some more professors who were left in charge to buy time for the professors to complete the spell that was the strongest spell of fire attribute and even more destructive than the eighth circle thunder spell.

Spells began to rain down on Wei Jun, who was just able to shake off the feeling of numbness all over his body. He jumped back as he felt the barrage of spells. He was worried about the spell, so he activated his skills as well. The biggest problem was the barrier, and it was taken care of. It was also his primary goal, so he was a little at ease now.

But…

‘How much longer…?’

He couldn’t help but look at the party system where an update was going on. The first party member’s privilege had activated as soon as he got in range for Natasha’s privileges to activate. All the excess power from his transformation that he hadn’t been able to absorb had been redirected to Natasha, and the party system was currently evolving her. Evolving her into something Wei Jun hadn’t expected.

‘The remnant power of the gold dragon.’

[The process of the first mate is underway]

[Time remaining: Seven minutes]

[Quest timer: Eight minutes]

There was only one minute difference but Wei Jun could only hope that one minute difference could make a difference that would make this entire battle different from its conclusion.

But even if that didn’t happen.

[Qi construct]

A rain of spears fell on the entire academy.

“Mana shield!”

McCalligan and many others connected their mana to make a giant shield that protected almost everyone.

But…

Shaa!!!

Bam!

Wei Jun suddenly sped up and arrived before the shield before the rain of arrows could hit them, and collided with his full body weight and power coursing all over him to break it down.

“Kugh!”

“Argh!”

“Hold on!”

While the shield didn’t break down, intense crackles appeared in it and as soon as the rain of spears fell on the shield, it broke apart. Not all of it was broken but the part that was broken was enough for the some of the spears to break through, falling on helpless three and four circle mages.

Even some aura masters were attacked and died on the spot. Still, the death rate was not even ten percent, and the injured were only around twenty percent as well.

But the greatest damage wasn’t coming from that direction. The greatest problem was…

“Stop him!!!”

“Aura masters move!”

“Defend!”

“Deploy defensive spells!!!”

Wei Jun had broken through the initial defense line and had begun to kill everyone in sight with whips extending from his hands.

“Kaa!!!”

“No–!!!”

“Save us!!!”

Helpless screams rang out as indiscriminate killing began to occur in the square. The castle had been breached, and everyone who was beyond the walls, trying to protect him from coming inside, was struck by Wei Jun, killed on the spot by just one attack.

Wei Jun’s focus wasn’t on the truly strong ones, but he kept killing only those at the low levels and began to work his way up from there.

The reason…

[Death Qi +100]

[Death Qi +170]

[Death Qi +617]

[Death Qi +…]

[Death …]

[Dea…]

[…]

Wei Jun killed and killed, as if he were in a frenzy and nothing could stop him. In the end, the professors and high ranker knights had no choice but to join in and fight but the result didn’t change much.

Since he was already inside, the usage of spells had decreased by a great degree. The battle was now strictly close combat, and the mages were nothing but hindrances at this point.

Amidst all that chaos, feeling the accumulation of intense heat coming from the inner castle walls, Wei Jun couldn’t help but gulp.

But…

[The privilege of the first mate has been activated]

[The transformation has ended]

[Party member Natasha has advanced to the realm of the eighth circle]

[INT stat +10,000]

‘Finally.’
