Chapter 439: Losing battle?
Chapter 439

“Great.”

Wei Jun couldn’t help but mutter in annoyance as he looked at the mages casting their spells while the knights were making their way to him on horses, their auras shaking the surroundings. He was sure that he would be barraged by the spells even before those knights arrived.

However…

[Mana Shield]

A dome appeared around Wei Jun before a cool sensation of relief began to course through him.

[Your health has been restored by the blessing of the fairies]

His already rapid regeneration and class effect were enhanced even more as he felt the effects of the heal spell that the green-eyed girl next to him had cast.

Wei Jun turned to look at her and couldn’t help but smile. She, however, couldn’t smile. With the way Wei Jun currently was, it was a miracle that she was even able to look at him. The fact that she hadn’t turned her head away just showed how much she cared for Wei Jun.

Anyone else would have vomited in disgust by now.

Wei Jun turned to look at the battle going on and the knights making their way to him.

Even if Natasha was ridiculously strong, she wouldn’t be able to stop their charge with her shield alone, and since she didn’t know any spells past the sixth circle, only the strength of her spells had increased a little due to her upgrade. In essence, she was still only a sixth circle mage, just a little stronger than her peers.

‘Not yet.’ He was tempted to eat the healing pill, but he couldn’t afford to do so. At the very least, not now. The enemy was too strong, not the mages, but the one fighting Morial and Song Huan.

Wei Jun needed all the cards he had reserved for himself. He had already used a big one, and he couldn’t afford to use any more of them.

In conclusion, a backup was needed.

Luckily…

“Plum blossom sword art: Heavenly petals.”

The fragrance of plums penetrated his burnt nostrils as he looked at the pink beams falling on the knights who were very close to the barrier erected by Natasha.

The knights managed to block that strike because not only were their physical traits focused on defense, but also because it was an area of effect strike, which focused more on attacking multiple enemies than the damage aspect.

That one strike was enough to stop the advance of the high-ranking knights.

“You look like hell.” Xing Xiaomei landed outside the barrier and said.

“Watch out.” Wei Jun said as he raised his head and looked at the second barrage of attacks incoming courtesy of the mages.

Fwoo!!!

Before they could, however, a giant wall of frost emanating strong Qi was erected before the barrier, stopping all of the spells, but perishing along with them as well. Landing behind the barrier, Wei Jun looked at the two women who had arrived and had nothing but worry on their faces.

“Focus on the mission.” Wei Jun instructed, and although one of them was weak in regards to her will, she still nodded and converted her worry for Wei Jun into anger and diverted it at the incoming knights.

Yan Rong looked at the angry Xia Lu and couldn’t help but nod. She was quite angry herself, and when she looked at the mages in the distance, a terrifying grin appeared on her face but before she could jump at them…

“Don’t. Focus on the knights.” Wei Jun stopped her advance. Attacking mages being a cultivator was foolish. Especially when she was not as strong as Wei Jun.

Wei Jun didn’t know what had happened, but Yan Rong had entered the commander realm as well.

‘Does it have something to do with my level up?’

Only the system allowed him to bypass the lengthy process of a breakthrough. As long as Wei Jun could level up, he could raise his strength without breaking through, and he couldn’t help but wonder if it applied to his party members as well.

Because looking at Xing Xiaomei and Yan Rong, both in the commander realm of martial arts, and Xia Lu, who was a tad bit away from reaching the peak realm of the grandmaster realm, he couldn’t help but wonder if his hypothesis was correct or not.

“Incoming!”

Natasha’s shout garnered his attention as he looked at the ball of fire that could be considered as large as boulders, making their way to the shield.

Xia Lu and Yan Rong once again focused on defense and erected a giant wall of frost Qi, but the latest spells weren’t from sixth-circle scrubs. Not only did the majority of them belong to seventh circle mages, but there was one attack that did the most damage and obviously belonged to an eighth circle mage.

Even at the commander realm, Yan Rong’s power couldn’t stop those spells. Needless to say, their ice barrier was taken down in an instant.

“Plum blossom sword art: Gentle blossom!”

Petals appeared out of nowhere and began to collide with the fireball that was the strongest. The petals burned away at the contact, but for some reason, the trajectory of the fireball began to sway as well. As if it were following a path made by Xing Xiaomei’s gentle sword movements, the fireball changed its direction and fell quite a good distance away from them to their left.

The explosion from the attack wasn’t anything they couldn’t bear as well.

Tang!

However, that was all the assistance Xing Xiaomei could have given. The knights had arrived before her while she was busy directing the fireball away from them, and collided with her. Of course, their power was nowhere near hers, and she had no problem fighting multiples of them at a time.

Even the two eight-star aura masters at the front couldn’t breach past her defenses, but they did manage to keep her busy, which was enough for the third eight-star aura master to advance with the rest of his forces and attack Wei Jun and the rest.

“Heal.” Wei Jun felt another surge of warmth flow through him as his healing pace quickened even more, while more individuals, such as his sister, Lin Ruan, and his business partner, Yue Peng, joined the fray and attacked the knights along with Yan Rong and Xia Lu.

They all had their own weapons that were the courtesy of Wei Jun, who had given those to them the day he disappeared after Xia Lu’s kidnapping.

“Don’t blindly attack. Pull back. Form a defensive line.” Wei Jun spouted instructions, and the rest followed. Even Yan Rong, who was eager to face the third eighth-star aura master, heeded his instructions because his safety was a priority.

And so, a close battle with the knights began. If they had to be fair, even though they were severely outnumbered, they had managed to form a defensive formation that helped them guard against their attacks while Xing Xiaomei kept the two threats at bay.

However, the biggest trouble they faced was the spells of the mages that fell on them, and despite their defense, they had a hard time blocking both of the forces.

“Just hold on for a few minutes!” Wei Jun yelled and encouraged his party members. The only blessing in that situation was that the cooldown of the seventh and the only eighth circle magicians hadn’t ended yet.

Due to that, it was bearable. Still, it was becoming unbearable as time passed by. Defending against the spells and the knight’s attacks, especially when their room for movement was being narrowed by each passing second, the lower-level members of the party began to incur injuries.

Soon, that spread to the higher-ranked party members as well since their movements were restricted in such a closed space.

In the end, they were forced to completely focus on defense with no chance of attacking back. But even that was slowly proving to be hard for them, and Lin Ruan and Yue Peng were the first ones to fall while Mark Wilson coughed blood next to Wei Jun as he strained his mana to increase the effect of the barrier.

Natasha, Yan Rong, and Xia Lu were still holding on due to their massive power, but even they were severely limited.

“Hey! If you hurry up and heal, I’ll flash you three times without a charge!” Even Xing Xiaomei was having a hard time against the two knights now, who were severely sharper, more experienced than her. While their swordsmanship wasn’t as sophisticated as hers, they canceled out that advantage with their superior defense.

All in all, Wei Jun’s party was at a severe disadvantage, and to worsen it all, in the sky, a globe of fire bigger than earlier made its way to them.

‘Fu*k.’ All of them cursed, knowing they wouldn’t be able to avoid this one. Natasha had no choice but to leave Wei Jun’s healing to Mark Wilson, who was also on his last throes, and focus on strengthening the barrier against that attack.

“Angh!!” She grunted as the fireball collided with the barrier. She held on as much as she could, straining her body and mana to her limit, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stop it, and the barrier began to crack.

Just when everyone thought it was over…

Bam!!!

A bare fist collided with the fireball. When they all looked up, the only thing they could see was…

‘Damn. That’s big.’

Okay, so I said I’d upload the character art the first thing in the morning, but in all honesty, I haven’t been able to find a secure way. Every method allows the viewers to download, and I’d like to avoid copyright or imitation of my work.

This is just an experiment with three renders. Let me know if you can download them or not, so I can use this method or search for another one that doesn’t allow the viewers to download my art.

[Art Reveal – experimental]

Want to see what Wei Jun actually looks like?
