Chapter 463: Slaughterer of the East
Chapter 463
“Ugh!” Wei Jun almost puked at the stench that was heavenly disgusting. The only reason he didn’t let out everything in his stomach was the system notifications in his view.
[Slaughter of the East’s power has been detected]
[Consumption in progress]
[You have absorbed a portion of darkness within the Jiangshi]
[You have obtained one low-grade strength elixir]
[Death Qi +100]
[Gold Tael +100]
‘I get the death Qi, but what are these?’ Wei Jun wondered as he held the vial and the golden boat-type coin with a bead in the middle. It seemed like pure gold and was heavy like it as well, and there were a hundred of them.
But what really piqued his interest was…
[Low-grade strength elixir]
[Effect: Raises a portion of your strength]
[A.N.: Upon consumption, the system’s restriction would not affect the user. The obtained stats would be counted as a buff]
Wei Jun was a little confused at the description, so…
“Let’s chow it down.” Wei Jun simply thought and consumed the red pill that seemed suspicious as hell, like those kings of the pills.
Almost instantly, the pill dissolved even before it reached his stomach, but Wei Jun didn’t feel anything. Well, at the very least, he didn’t, but the precise detail of the system was always there to wash all doubts away.
[Strength +0.1]
“…” Wei Jun remained silent for a while before he sighed and took a deep breath. Before…
“COME OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!!!”
“…”
Shoo~~~
The air once again roamed through the village before the door to one of the houses opened, and a skinny man with an axe in his hand slowly and cautiously made his way out. Wei Jun could spot a woman who was equally skinny and children with sunken cheeks in the hut from which the man came.
“Wh-Who are you?” The man asked.
‘His way of speaking is a bit…’ Wei Jun analyzed. The man spoke something similar to Chinese, but it’s dialect was more on the Korean side, the heavy one from the north.
‘Old China.’ Wei Jun presumed.
“What is this place?” Wei Jun asked.
“Who are you?” The man once again asked.
“Haa…” Wei Jun sighed before he waved his hand, and a variety of bread in laminated packets fell on the ground. Seeing the strange packaging, the man was wary, but the food was obvious to everyone.
The man was about to step forward when Wei Jun did so before him and said, “What happened in this place?”
Upon Wei Jun’s question and at the sight of food, the man quickly spoke while the rest of the villagers, who amounted to about fifty people, including children and elders, came into the square where the dead body of the creature was also present.

“Th-This is the edge of the Zuan Shun empire.” Wei Jun heard a smooth voice that was laced with grace and authority, even though the slight stutter gave away the signs of the person’s nervousness.
Wei Jun looked at the milky white asian woman who was accompanied by a man in leather armor. Wei Jun looked at her for a few seconds before he lifted his foot and backed off while leaving more food, such as fruits and vegetables, in a bag on the ground.
“Go ahead. Help yourselves. You have a lot to do once you’re done eating.” Wei Jun said as he dragged the headless body of the creature he had just killed away.
‘System, are you able to analyze this thing?’ Wei Jun asked.
[Certainly so, user]
[Analysis in progress]
[Subject: Jiangshi]
[Realm: Mortal]
[Threat to the user: 0.0000000000000000001%]
[Useful aspects: None]
‘That’s a lot of zeroes.’ Wei Jun couldn’t help but say. Still, he was thankful for the system’s last analysis, which was enough for him to know that there was nothing he could get by wasting his time on the thing.
‘Explain the realm thing to me.’ Wei Jun said.
[Current power structure of the world]
[Mortal]
[Third rate]
[Second Rate]
[First rate]
[Peak]
[Transcendent]
[The ‘Transcendent’ realm is further divided into three stages depending on the laws of the world]
‘What does this thing being ‘Mortal’ mean?’ Wei Jun asked.
[The conversion of the Jiangshi was from a mortal being with no Qi present.]
‘I see.’ Wei Jun replied before he asked, ‘How do I go back from here?’
[Quest has not yet been created]
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ Wei Jun asked.
[Quest has not yet been created]
‘No, I mean…’ Wei Jun went silent. The system’s AI was different from the overseer. While the overseer could understand his words above and beyond, the system only replied about what was asked, nothing further.
“Haa…” He sighed and stood up. Making his way back to the village, he saw the people moving here and there at the orders of the woman. Even the children were pitching in.
They were making spikes from wooden logs that the man in the leather armor was cutting the people of the village were planting them.
When the woman saw Wei Jun approaching, she stopped giving directions and left all the command to her guard before she made her way to Wei Jun. “I thank you, traveler, for saving our lives and gracing us with food.” She spoke in a stuck-up way and curtsied with a bow.
“Ahan.” Wei Jun simply brushed it off and asked, “And what exactly was that thing?”
“You are not aware of a Jiangshi?” The woman had some difficulty understanding Wei Jun’s words, but she managed to understand in the end. But before she could reply…
“How dare you stand in her highness’s presence?” The guard left whatever he was doing and addressed Wei Jun angrily, with his sword ready to be pointed at Wei Jun.
Wei Jun looked at him with a sus expression and wisely ignored his remark while he addressed the woman, “Control him. Otherwise, he would join that fella over there.”
Once again, although his words were difficult, the intent in them was clear to understand, and the woman visibly panicked and hurriedly bowed at a ninety-degree angle, “Please forgive my companion, traveler!”
“Sure, sure. As long as he keeps his voice down.” Wei Jun nonchalantly said. The guard was about to erupt again, but the woman managed to keep him down.
“So, what were you saying about these things?” Wei Jun asked. Although the system had already given the name of the thing, Wei Jun still felt it best to start from the beginning.
“They are Jiangshi. Born from the power of the one who gave in to the dark power.”
“They are… the living dead.”
‘There was no need for the dramatic touch.’ Wei Jun inwardly commented but didn’t pursue the issue and asked, “Then why are you in hiding? From what I’ve seen, you could have easily killed them.”
Although the guard with the woman, or the woman herself, wasn’t as strong as Wei Jun, when compared to the creature, they were strong enough.
“Only those who possess the holy Qi to purify the damned can kill them.” The woman replied.
‘Aha.’ Wei Jun quickly concluded. Although he wasn’t a holy person, what he did was absorption rather than eradication.
“And where are these holy people?” Wei Jun asked.
“The mad emperor killed them all.” The woman replied.
‘Lucky me, I guess.’ Wei Jun inwardly said.
“Are you here to avenge them?” The woman asked.
‘Not really.’ Wei Jun wanted to reply as such. He could understand why the woman would misunderstand him, given that he was able to kill a thing that could only have been possible if he were to possess holy Qi. So from the woman’s point of view, Wei Jun was associated with the people the aforementioned ‘Mad Emperor’ had killed, and Wei Jun was there to avenge them.
But there was no need to clear the misunderstanding. Using it in his favor worked just as well as ever.
“Yes. Yes, I am.” Wei Jun replied before he asked, “So lead me to the place where more of those creatures are. I shall purify them in the name of the holy god and his representative, the holy Pope.”
“Po-Pope? Is he an immortal?” The woman was confused and asked.
‘Right. Different franchise.’ Wei Jun realized his slip in appearing to be dramatic. He simply shook his head and said, “Take me where these impure things are and I shall carry out my duty.”
“O-of course.” The woman hurriedly replied before she approached her guard. An argument instantly broke out, and Wei Jun could make out some parts of it, such as ‘It’s too dangerous, your highness’, ‘I shall do so in your stead’, or ‘We cannot trust this man’.
Though, in the end, who could ever win an argument with a woman? In about an hour, Wei Jun stood with a sus expression on his face while on his left stood a man with an angry expression and on his right stood a stunning woman in a white robe with a determined expression.
‘I have a feeling this wouldn’t be as simple as I thought it would be.’
