Chapter 731: The King
“To think I would be wearing this.” Nathan slightly loosened his collar.
“Hahaha. It can’t be helped. Although this is not a formal meeting, you will still be meeting my father.” Flora smiled wryly. “I’m even more surprised that your teacher actually has all those clothes. Was she expecting you to need it?”
Nathan sighed. “Knowing her personality, that might be possible.”
“Anyway, just relax. Although my father is strict normally, he is rather relaxed when he’s not working.” Flora pointed to the right side. “By the way, we go right over there. The meeting room is not far from there.”
Nathan nodded as Flora continued guiding him through the castle. After walking for almost twenty minutes, he finally reached the meeting room they were talking about.
The door looked simple and didn’t stand out. People would probably think this was a storage room if they didn’t know about it.
Flora knocked on the door gently before saying, “Father. I’ve brought Nathan here.”
“Please enter.”
Once Flora opened the door, Nathan could see three men sitting on the opposite side of the room, with another man standing in the corner.
The room itself was simple. There was only a single long table and chairs. The room had no decorations, and the walls were just cold stones.
The candles lit the room gently, offering a small warmth in this cold weather.
This was the first time he met the king. He was quite surprised by how young the king looked. He thought the king would be an old man with a thick beard, but it turned out the king looked like he was in his thirties.
His body was showing a rather youthful energy, and his gentle expression exuded a mature charm.
“Welcome, Nathan. I have always wanted to meet the man who manages to sway my daughter’s heart.” Julius greeted him with a small joke to lighten the mood.
Nathan’s expression remained solemn. As he was about to fall to his knees, the king immediately stopped him. “We don’t do that here. Please rise. This is not an official meeting, so there’s no need to kneel.
“Besides, your reputation is not something one can take lightly, whether it’s the cloud-repelling device or even the magic weapons.
“Since this is not an official meeting, I’d like to talk with such a man on equal terms.”
Nathan looked surprised. Although he didn’t openly admit it, the reason he didn’t want Nathan to kneel was because he was aware of Nathan’s perception of royalty. To avoid making their relationship awkward, he was making this meeting as casual as possible.
He realized that the king might be much wiser than Nathan’s given credit for.
“I understand, Your Majesty. Thank you very much.” Nathan nodded politely.
Julius extended his hand. “Please take your seat.”
Nathan took the seat opposite the king while Flora took the one next to him.
“I have heard that you come to me for two reasons. The first one is to meet Sullivan, while the second one is because you have something to say regarding the kingdom.”
“Yes. Although I’m inexperienced, if you’d allow me to speak boldly, I’d like to voice out my concern,” Nathan confirmed.
“I see.” Julius nodded. “The first problem is easy to solve. So, let’s hear what you have to say first.”
Nathan hesitated for a moment. “When I was on a mission in the Holy Kingdom a few days ago, I was aware of one brutal truth.
“While it was true that the cloud-repelling device helped us with the food problem, the people were dying inside. Without anything to do, it was hard to cling to hope. Without the money circulating, the kingdoms would be crippled.”
Julius smiled. “I see. So, do you have a solution in mind?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t really have a solution. There’s not enough time for me to come up with a solution. I tried to destroy some buildings over there so that the mayor would gather a workforce to repair them, which could probably solve the short-term unemployment, but I’m unsure what to do on a large scale.
“One solution is not enough for everything, unlike the ash cloud.” Nathan shook his head helplessly.

Julius’ smile became even bigger as he turned to the prime minister. “Isn’t he good?”
The prime minister sighed. “Indeed. Regarding that problem, we have several solutions.
“Because the country is at war with the aliens, we can get some soldiers from the population. Enlisting them in exchange for food or money should be able to solve a part of the problem.
“For the general populace, a project coming directly from the king will definitely attract a lot of people. We can make them clean stuff or even gather the ash falling to the ground, since they can be used to fertilize the soil.
“Or a construction project is also possible. Because of the current situation, we are in dire need of forts. The war minister has been contemplating their positioning and other stuff.
“Last but not least, it’s revitalizing the road. Although we haven’t found a viable solution yet, revitalizing the road will allow people to travel, which will circulate the money.”
Nathan looked up, astonished. They actually had already been aware of the truth this whole time.
Julius nodded in agreement. “As the prime minister said, we are grateful for your contribution to the cloud-repelling device and the magic weapon. Without your help, the kingdom might be in a much harsher predicament.
“With those inventions, we are able to retain most of our population instead of losing them. As a result, we have more workforce to do all this project.
“That’s why you don’t have to worry. We are the ones governing this kingdom. If we can’t think of our own solution, we should be ashamed.” Julius waved his hand, telling Nathan to not feel bad about it.
Unlike Nathan, they were the people who received all kinds of reports like this, so they should solve this problem themselves.
“Still, if you have a suggestion, please don’t hesitate to say it.”
