Chapter 738: Attack
Sylvia guided them around the town, starting from their current district. In this district, he could see a lot of soldiers and training fields scattered around.
Then, they continued to the entertainment district, which was basically a red-light district. Obviously, Selena stopped their tour around this area.
Before heading to the medical district, Nathan was a bit curious about the civilian district.
As he expected, the civilians were brought here as a foundation. They took care of the soldiers and handled other miscellaneous things so that the soldiers could focus on the front line.
Still, there were a few things Nathan was curious about.
On the way to the medical district, Nathan couldn’t help but ask, “From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem there are as many soldiers as I’d expected. How many soldiers do we have here?”
“Ah… That’s…” Sylvia rubbed her cheek, looking hesitant. “We have about 15,000 soldiers stationed in this place. It’s just… I have mentioned that we’re being attacked more frequently lately, right?”
Nathan frowned. “Are they injured or killed?”
“Yes.” Sylvia nodded. “The medical district is full of men. After the disaster struck, we’re being attacked almost every day. As a result, a lot of people are injured or even die.”
Nathan looked down for a moment. Now that he thought about it, he had never really gone to the ‘true’ front line.
Even when he went to the base where he first met Duke Sullivan, it was actually the nearest defense line. The true front line was much deeper into the alien territory. The only one remotely close to the front line would be the previous mission where he and the war minister worked together.
At that time, they had to handle thousands of aliens at once with a lot of strong aliens among them.
Even then, it wasn’t the toughest spot.
This one was probably the furthest he had gone in the front line.
“Now that I think about it, I have seen that the mood on this base is rather high. Does it have a reason? How does the soldier system work anyway? Are they compensated properly?” Nathan asked.
Sylvia looked down, contemplating. “Yes. They are compensated properly. Unfortunately, I don’t know how the soldier system works directly, but we’re fighting together with the summoners to ensure the safety of this place.
“However, because of the recent situation, the Sword Saint heads deeper into the alien territory to weaken the aliens. We’ve been attacked so much that people will be too exhausted if it continues, so the Sword Saint personally leads an army to take care of it.”
“I see.” Nathan nodded in understanding.
Suddenly, the bell rang across the base.
All of them couldn’t help but turn around, looking up to see the bell.
“Hmm?” Nathan frowned.
“What’s going on?” Selena squinted her eyes. “An attack?”
“Yes. There is an alien attack.” Sylvia nodded solemnly. “This is not good. I’m sorry, but I can’t guide you any longer. I need to prepare for water and other things.”
When she was about to leave, Nathan grabbed Sylvia’s hand. “Wait.”
“Is there something wrong? Esteemed guests. It’s not that I don’t wish to guide you around, but the situation forces me to—” She suddenly stopped after seeing Nathan shake his head.
“No. We might need you to guide us, not around the base, but to the wall. Unlike you, we’re not familiar with this base. At the same time, we are summoners. Although we don’t know much about this base, it’s better if we help, right? I believe you can contribute more to the base that way.”
Sylvia opened her mouth but realized Nathan’s request was reasonable. Although she didn’t know their strength, they were still summoners. They were much stronger than normal people. Bringing them to the wall would definitely be more beneficial than preparing other miscellaneous items.
Sylvia bit her lips before nodding her head. “I understand. We should head to the south. They usually come from the south!”
Sylvia tried to run as quickly as possible, but his speed couldn’t compete against them. Nathan wanted to summon Nidhogg to bring them, but it might cause confusion or startle the soldiers here.
As if noticing what Nathan wanted to do, Selena suddenly formed a hand with her spiritual energy and grabbed Sylvia.

“W-What is this?” Sylvia was startled, holding the hand tightly.
“!!!” Nathan turned his head to Selena, while the latter simply nodded. “We’re going to speed up. Hang on.”
“W-Whaaa—!” Sylvia screamed as both of them sped up. They even leaped onto the rooftops and used them to reach the wall faster.
It took them only one minute to reach the wall as other soldiers were climbing the wall in all directions.
Once they reached the wall, they saw Layfon staring at the field in front of them. It was there they could finally see the true nightmare.
Thousands of aliens were crossing their land, bulldozing everything in their path. The aliens varied in size.
They could be as small as a small dog, but they could be as big as the wall itself. Although it was faint, Nathan could see at least three warrior class aliens.
This sight alone reminded him of the advancing alien army in his dream.
‘Is this how it feels? No. In my dream, the army was at least 10 times the size and they had a lot of elite class aliens. In my first dream, there were at least a thousand elite class aliens in it.
‘This is just a prelude. We might face enemies far beyond this.’ Nathan took a deep breath.
He couldn’t help but overhear what Layfon was muttering.
“This doesn’t look good. A third of our people are already injured, and the Sword Saint brings three thousand men to that place.
“We only have about 7,000 men to handle this wave. But if we fight them in even numbers, it’s bound to have a lot of casualties.
“As expected, we should shift our strategy to focus on the summoners’ firepower.” Layfon clenched his fists.
Nathan couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows, noticing something in his words. “Sir Layfon!”
