Chapter 741: Battlefield
As Layfon said, after the initial attack, the aliens scattered. Some of them headed to the west and east walls, but some moved a bit too far that it looked like they were slipping past this base.
Not a single person could leave this fort because they would soon be completely surrounded.
Besides, there were multiple warrior class aliens among them. Even if they managed to drive away the lower-level aliens, these warrior class aliens would be hard to take down.
In fact, Layfon couldn’t waste too much of his ena on the lower-level aliens because of them.
However, there was one miscalculation on his part, and it wasn’t a bad thing.
“Oohhhh!” All of a sudden, the cheer of the soldiers erupted, not from the wall, but from inside the fort.
“!!!” Layfon and a lot of people couldn’t help but turn their heads around, wondering what happened.
Those with better visions like Layfon couldn’t help but gasp. The knights who were supposed to be taken care of in the medical district suddenly rushed out of the district while holding their weapons.
“We’re going back to the battlefield.”
“Kill those alien bastards.”
“Not a single alien should be alive.”
“Those aliens are lower than livestock.”
“Kill them!”
“!!!” Layfon was completely stunned. They were an important fort, so they had several healers that would take care of them. However, most healers were basically closing one wound or improving their recovery rate.
For those soldiers, it would take several days before they could return. Only those with small grazes could return immediately. Then again, they couldn’t afford to waste their healers’ ena on such a small wound, so most of them simply let their natural regeneration recover.
But Nathan had just thrown that balance. Layfon couldn’t help but turn to Nathan, who simply grinned while saying, “3,000? Anubis can handle 30,000 soldiers, let alone 3,000.”
Layfon had never thought that a single person could actually change the course of the war. With Nathan’s help, his worries about having more casualties because the lower number of active soldiers were gone. With those three thousand people returning to the wall, they should be able to reduce their casualties by a lot.
And Nathan didn’t plan to stop there. By having Anubis around, he could still heal the wounds of the injured people here.
For Layfon, Nathan was like a divine blessing. For Nathan, this place was for him to experience and learn about the battlefield.
In fact, this was the first time he saw an alien wave like this.
The aliens finally reached the first ditch. Some lower-level aliens fell to the ditches face first and some trampled those aliens, ultimately killing them. With several ditches, they could kill a lot of aliens just by a simple fortification.
Nathan came to Selena. “Focus on the big ones first. Although this fort is strong, we can’t have those big ones destroy the wall with their weight. Our job here is not to kill the strong aliens. Rather than focusing on the mature and warrior class aliens…”
Selena finished his words. “We better kill the ones that threaten the walls.”
Nathan smiled. “Are you ready?”
“Of course!”
Nathan and Selena leaped toward the edge of the wall. Nathan rained them down with his Machine Gun. On the other hand, Selena formed a powerful pressure that could crush the aliens from a distance while her avatar remained active, taking down one big alien after another.
Some aliens reached Layfon’s demon and began to climb its body to somehow take it down. However, the demon couldn’t care less about this low-level threat as it broke through the enemy’s formation as he and the demon headed straight for the warrior class alien. He left behind two familiars in order to protect Nathan and Selena, but it might not be needed anymore.
Once the aliens reached the wall, they started ramming their bodies into the sturdy wall at first, but soon climbed the wall after they realized the walls weren’t easily destroyed.
The knights immediately unsheathed their swords.
“Jinwu, Nidhogg. It’s time. Kill them all!” Nathan shouted.

Jinwu and Nidhogg nodded their heads as they leaped off the wall, diving straight toward the ditches.
Nidhogg released his fire breath to kill the aliens away from the wall while Jinwu flapped his wings to send forth the intense heat that would scorch the aliens. However, their targets weren’t these lower-level aliens.
They immediately soared into the sky again and flew straight toward the flying aliens. Unlike the ground aliens, these flying aliens were more dangerous since they could reach the knights easily.
Meanwhile, some soldiers could still rain down arrows on the aliens while the knights shoved the aliens back from the wall.
“Raaa!”
“Shaaa!”
One by one, aliens started reaching the top of the wall, pushing back the knights in charge of shoving other aliens back to the ground.
But it was time for familiars who didn’t possess long-distance attacks to take care of these aliens.
Fenrir pounced on an alien while Yin Zhen blasted an alien’s head with his kick as they were ready to go around. Meanwhile, Sasha remained on Nathan and Selena’s sides to watch out for a sneak attack.
Other familiars, such as dark elves, werewolves, and other beings, started fighting the aliens. In fact, Nathan could see a group of knights charging toward an alien. Two of them stopped the alien’s charge with their shields before two other knights looped around them and sliced the alien’s head.
However, some knights weren’t so lucky. An alien had ripped apart his neck with its sharp fangs.
Even if Nathan wanted to save, he couldn’t unleash his bullets around here. No matter how confident he was in his control, releasing the bullets on top of the wall might kill people unnecessarily. He couldn’t expect the people to dodge it or not react to those bullets after all. Even if the trajectory would miss them, someone might misunderstand and move on the bullet’s trajectory intentionally or unintentionally.
All of this was new to Nathan. Just like the first time he fought with a lot of soldiers, he once again saw the ugly side of a battle.
“So, this is a real battlefield…” Nathan muttered, his face turning dark.
