Chapter 765: Flora
“What are you doing? Why do you keep waking up late? Are you going to become a pig?” Lena shouted while lifting up Flora’s quilt. “The maids are in trouble, you know?”
“Nnnhnn?” The 7-year-old Flora rubbed her eyes before yawning. “Aunty…?”
“Yeah. It’s me. Do you know how many days you’ve been doing this? You have never woken up later previously. What are you doing right now? You even ate your snacks on the bed?” Lena was furious after seeing the crumb on the bed.
Flora shook her head to wake up fully before looking down. “But…”
“But what? If you’re going to be a rascal, I’m going to train you thoroughly.” Lena squinted her eyes. “Your mother has left you to me, so I’m going to make you a proper lady.”
“But…” Flora looked hesitant. Still, to avoid Lena’s anger, Flora decided to tell her what was going on. “I read in the book that I shouldn’t wake up too early.”
“Huh?” Lena frowned. “A book?”
“Yes. The book told me that if I wake up early every day, the servants will have a hard time because they have to get up earlier than me to prepare for everything.
“Because if they don’t wake up earlier than me, people will think that the servants are of low quality because their master wakes up earlier than them. But all those aunties and uncles who are working for us have always done their best, so I don’t want people to have a low opinion of them.
“That’s why…” Flora rubbed her cheeks.
“!!!” Lena suddenly noticed what was going on. Whether it was the crumb on her bed or a few stacks of books all over the room, it was because of this one reason. “That’s why you have been staying late?”
Flora nodded. “Yes. I thought that it’s better if I retire to my room early and read books until it’s late. This way, no one will think the servants are lazy. But… I’m hungry. I’m sorry.”
Her anger completely vanished. In fact, she was even embarrassed. Flora was supposed to be seven years old, but her thinking was ahead of her age.
She was quite a genius herself, since she was able to follow her lessons extremely well.
Lena’s expression melted. She sat on the bed while patting her head. “Listen. That book is telling the truth, but that book must be quite old.
“It’s true that people will think our servants are lazy, but whether it’s the royal castle or this mansion, we have two sets of servants working throughout the day.
“You might not notice it, but once we’re retired to our room, the people who are working in the mansion change. There are fewer who will replace them during the night since not a lot of things are going on.
“However, if you look at them closely, they are different. If you look at their faces closely, you will realize that a lot of them aren’t in the mansion after breakfast. Do you realize that?”
“!!!” Flora widened her eyes in shock. “Yes.”
“Everyone has their own set of time to work, so you don’t have to worry about people thinking they’re lazy. On the other hand, if you behave like this, people will think that the servants don’t take care of you properly.
“If you want to think for them, you should talk to them first instead of making an assumption.”
Flora nodded furiously. “I understand.”
“Are we clear now? No staying late anymore? Instead of staying late, you should wake up like usual and use your time properly. Understand?”
“Yes. Promise.” Flora had a big smile on her face.
Lena couldn’t help but smile.
…
A year later.
Lena found Flora crying in the bedroom, with yet another problem.
“What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
“Aunty…” Flora sobbed before saying with a shaking voice, “Why is the world so mean? People tell me that as a princess, I will have to fight my brothers and sisters. Why can’t people just be nice to each other?

“We can help a lot more people if we work together.”
Lena let out a long breath, not sure what to say. After all, she understood how brutal the fight for the throne was.
Ultimately, Lena distracted Flora with a question. “In that case, do you want to become the queen?”
Flora shook her head. “I don’t want to become a queen. A queen is not good. You will end up marrying someone whom you don’t like, and you will lose your power. Even if I do good, if the king doesn’t agree, the queen can’t do much. After all, our kingdom never has a queen as their sovereign.”
“Why do you think like that? Don’t you want to help people?”
“I want to help people!”
“Then, if you become the queen, you might be able to help a lot more people, you know?”
“But…” Flora shook her head furiously. “I don’t really want to become a queen. I don’t just want to help the people in this kingdom. I want to help all people!”
“!!!” It was Lena’s turn to get surprised.
“If only I were a commoner, I could find my own husband and help the people. I want to travel all around the world, build a road and house for them and feed them. And if I do it with the person I love, it’s like a dream life.
“However, if I become a queen, I can’t go out easily. I can’t ask them what they need. Instead, I can only assume what they need. What if they don’t need it? What if I give them items they don’t need, assuming they need them and thinking they’re good now, only to find them suffering in reality?
“But I know… I’m the first princess. I have to accept my fate. If there’s someone who is more worthy than me to be the sovereign, I don’t mind giving it to them. They can tell me to marry someone whom I don’t like as long as it can help a lot of people. But if no one is worthy, then I will do it myself.”
Lena had never expected such a complicated thought would appear in the mind of an eight-year-old kid. This kid should really become the sovereign, thought Lena.
She added, “How about this? You should become extremely capable… so capable that people think it’s better to listen to you, the queen, instead of the king. This way, you can help a lot more people.”
“Ohhh!” Flora’s eyes brightened. “I will!”
While looking at her wine, Lena couldn’t help but remember the old memories about a kid who didn’t really want to become a sovereign but had the quality to become one. Lena muttered, “Nathan… You really have to take care of her.”
