Chapter 570: One Year Slumber?
“Alright, let’s go.”
Nox sighed, then with a bitter smile added, “But you’ll have to carry me.”
Zara blinked.
A faint red hue crept onto her pale cheeks. “W-what?”
“I can barely walk,” he said flatly. “If you don’t carry me, I’m going to collapse right here. Your call.”
She opened her mouth to reply. Closed it. Then quietly turned away for a moment. She drew in a breath.
When she turned back, her expression was calm again—but her ears were still pink.
“…Fine. But don’t get used to it.”
Before Nox could respond, a flash of blue light enveloped her. Mist swirled, frost crackled, and in the next breath, her body began to shift. Bones stretched. Limbs extended. Wings sprouted.
In seconds, standing before Nox was a majestic frost dragon—sleek, powerful, and luminous. Her scales shimmered like ice under moonlight, and the long silver ridges along her back pulsed with faint mana.
Zara knelt low, motioning with one wing for him to climb.
Nox didn’t hesitate. He stepped forward, grabbed hold of the nearest plate of armor-like scale, and hoisted himself onto her back. She lifted off moments later, her wings slicing through the cold air.
As the trees vanished beneath them and the forest opened to endless white, Nox closed his eyes.
Sleep claimed him before they passed the first mountain ridge.
—
Two days passed.
Nox slept like the dead.
The guest chamber was luxurious.
Polished stone walls laced with silver veins. Mana-infused glass windows that shimmered at dawn. A soft mattress lined with enchanted frost-wool. Heavy curtains. A private hearth. A carved basin filled with warm herbal water. Every comfort imaginable for a recovering warrior.
The palace healer checked in once. No potions. No elixirs. He simply said Nox needed rest.
Nox, however, hadn’t moved much.
He hadn’t stirred when the servants came to clean the floor.
He hadn’t noticed when Zara silently entered the room that first evening and just stood in the doorway for a long time, watching him.
He didn’t even blink when she returned the next morning to check on his pulse.
But what truly flustered her was when she tried to clean the blood off him.
She had brought in warm water, a clean towel, and fresh clothes. She cleaned the blood and dirt off his arms and face. She removed the shredded upper layer of his tunic and paused.
That was a mistake.
The moment she saw his bare torso, she froze.
“…Gods,” she whispered. Zara stood beside him, the damp towel in hand.
But she wasn’t moving.

Her eyes were stuck.
Not on the blood.
But on the definition of his body.
“…Why is he so… built?” she muttered under her breath, cheeks flushing.
It wasn’t just that Nox had a strong build—most dragon-blooded warriors did. But his was the kind of physique that looked forged, not grown. Every line of his abdomen, every fiber in his arms—it was like someone had sculpted him with a blade instead of bone.
And his face…
Even asleep, there was a sharpness to it. No softness. No wasted lines.
He didn’t look like a boy recovering from war.
He looked like a sleeping prince.
Zara gulped and forced herself to stop staring.
She began wiping the dried blood from his side, carefully avoiding any pressure points. But her hand slipped once, just slightly, and brushed the edge of his collarbone.
Nox stirred as if about to wake up.
Zara’s heart leapt into her throat.
She froze.
Then leaned slightly closer to check if he was waking up—
—and suddenly felt something inside her snap.
She didn’t understand it.
She couldn’t explain it.
But the next thing she knew, she was leaning down, just a few inches above his face, gaze locked on his lips.
Her chest felt tight. Her heart was hammering.
“…Just once,” she whispered. “He won’t even know.”
She inched closer.
Just as her lips hovered above his—
Click.
The door opened.
“Zara, have you seen—”
Drake froze mid-sentence. The silence that followed was unbearable.
Zara turned slowly, her face going pale first… then immediately beet red.
Drake blinked. Then blinked again.
Then a wide grin spread across his face.
“…Oh-hoh.”
“It’s not what it looks like!” she snapped, leaping away from the bed like a startled cat.
“Really?” Drake raised a brow. “Because it looks like you were about to kiss a half-dead boy in his sleep.”
“I wasn’t!” Zara’s voice cracked.
“You’re blushing.”
“No, I’m—shut up!”
Zara snatched the towel and threw it at his face.
“Get out!”
He caught it with one hand, laughing as he backed out of the room. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep your secret. Unless he wakes up first and says something.”
“I will kill you!”
“Love you too, sis.”
Drake laughed outright as he left the room. The door clicked shut, but the Frost Prince’s laughter was still very audible.
Zara collapsed into the nearby chair, face buried in her hands.
“…This is a disaster. What should I do? He mustn’t know about this. I need to shut that lousy mouth up.”

That Same Evening
Elsewhere in the palace, the other Monarchs’ Chosen had begun arriving. Because Frostpire was the closest kingdom to the ancient forest and the marked zone, all eight kingdoms had agreed to send their teams here before heading inside the forest.
The Fire Prince, Valkor, along with Elise, led a small team from the Inferno Kingdom. He entered the barracks like a walking furnace, heat radiating off his armor even in the middle of Frostpire’s cold. Elise followed behind him, scanning every hallway with alert eyes.
The Lightning Prince, Raziel, stood atop the palace walls, gazing down at the training fields, silent and unreadable.
The Shadow Kingdom’s Chosen, Nyxirith and her team, arrived by shadowstep, appearing suddenly in one of the palace courtyards before vanishing again.
From the Water Kingdom, the Water Princess wielding twin daggers shaped like waves moved through the inner halls with calculated steps.
The Wind Kingdom’s scion arrived with his team without warning—just a sudden burst of air, a blur of silver and green robes, and a faint trail of petals spinning in his wake.
Earth’s team had already arrived, choosing to wait at the courtyard perimeter, seated on stone benches like patient golems.
“I wonder where he is,” Lumi mumbled to herself as she walked through the grand halls of the Frostpire Palace under the guidance of a servant. She had said she wanted to take a walk around, but in reality, she was actually looking for someone.

Nox’s Room
The second sun dipped beneath the horizon. The frost outside glowed faintly under the moon’s pale gaze, and in the silence of the luxurious guest chamber, Nox finally opened his eyes. At first, the world was in two, but his vision adjusted after a while.
The ceiling of the Frostpire Palace met his vision, but he didn’t sit up right away. His body still ached. His mind still spun. But the fatigue was manageable now.
He reached up and slowly brushed his hand over his face. He sat up slowly, bones creaking slightly from not being used for such a long time.
“Damn, how long did I sleep?” Nox held the back of his head, feeling a mild headache. Noticing how silent everything was, a wild theory couldn’t help but surface in his mind.
What if he had slept for a year? That thought sent a shiver down his spine, and Nox’s first instinct was to check outside.
Suddenly, before he could move—
A faint pulse flickered behind his eyes.
Then—
[Ding! You have reached Level 100]
[System Evolution Is Now Available]
[Would you like to begin evolution sequence? Y/N]
Nox froze mid-step. “Right, I almost forgot about the three evolutions.”
