Chapter 612: Scamming an Entire Race
Nox inhaled a deep breath, feeling the eyes of everyone on him. He was long accustomed to this kind of pressure, so despite their intense scrutiny, he remained calm and composed.

‘I can’t even remember the number of times I’ve bullshitted people in my short life of just 16 years,’ he sighed inwardly. He had done it over and over again that he had now become well adept at it.

Clearing his throat, he began in a firm, confident voice. “Before I go straight to the main point, first of all, I’ll explain to everyone the reason for my absence.”

That caught everyone’s attention—especially Valkor and Lumi, who had been there with him before the disappearance. They wanted to know where he had taken the Scourge Champion and why it was now behaving like a loyal pet.

Nox proceeded to explain everything.

He told them that the reason he had disappeared was because he had activated a special treasure of his that sent him and the Scourge Champion to a distant place, as he didn’t want to endanger the lives of Lumi and Valkor.

When they heard this, everyone stirred.

“He practically sacrificed himself for us to escape,” mumbled a girl.

“And still returned to save us.”

The dragonkins felt a myriad of emotions that they couldn’t accurately describe. They felt grateful and, at the same time, wanted to prove to him that they were worth saving. If there was a way to repay him, most of them would do it without hesitation.

Of course, the treasure Nox was talking about was the Dimensional Key, which allowed him to travel to random dimensions all over Eos. But of course, he wouldn’t openly talk about one of his biggest secrets like that.

Valkor remained quiet for some time before he spoke. “Then what happened to the Champion? What did you do to him?”

This… this was a tricky question, but he had already thought about it beforehand. He retrieved a collar from his inventory, with a gleaming crystal in the middle that caught the moonlight.

Most of those who had paid attention to the Scourge Champion easily recognized it.

“This…” he held the necklace up for everyone to see, “I was able to control the Scourge with the help of this stretchy collar.”

As much as he wanted to reveal it, Nox just couldn’t bring himself to say that he had tamed the Scourge Champion. That would make the others guarded against him.

No sentient being would want to be controlled and be at the mercy of someone else. And for dragons, who were highly intelligent, it was even more difficult to accept.

This was why Nox had decided to use another approach to tame them. It was the reason he had told Dracos he would empower them instead of stating the obvious outright.

‘I’m about to scam an entire race…’ but it’s a necessary sacrifice, he thought inwardly, refusing to let the guilt overwhelm him.

Because there were countless items scattered across the world that could do lots of crazy things, no one really doubted Nox. They all bought the story—except Zara, of course—but she didn’t speak up.

If anything, she wanted to help Nox. After being with him for so long, she had come to realize that he was different.

“Now that’s out of the way,” Nox thought as he tightened his grasp on the necklace.

[Item: Shapeshifter’s Core (Ascended Rank)]

Description: A mysterious artifact that adapts to any form its owner desires—weapon, armor, or tool. Passively accelerates mana regeneration by 50%. Bound to soul.

He placed it away for now and returned his attention to the others, who were eagerly waiting for his next command. Now that Nox was back, Drake had handed the burden called leadership to him.

Even though a great battle—which had claimed the lives of about four Legendary-tier existences—had just ended, Nox didn’t tell them to leave the scene immediately.

‘It’s unlikely they’ll think we’re here, he thought.’

The Scourge Commanders would probably assume the group wouldn’t be foolish enough to return here, so they’d search the rest of the city while ruling this particular place out.

At first, a few people had expressed their fear and worries about being here. However, after Nox explained to them, everyone visibly calmed down. Some even admired his cunning mindset.

He looked up. Everyone was still watching him like a group of lost puppies waiting for instructions. Even the normally prideful Valkor stood straight, silent. It was clear—leadership had shifted.

“Listen up,” Nox’s tone turned cold and commanding, making several of them unconsciously straighten. “I didn’t just come back to talk. I came to make sure no one here ever gets stepped on again.”

The air grew tense.

“You all saw what happened. You were strong. But not strong enough.” His eyes scanned them, not with judgment but with truth. Brutal honesty. “If not for luck, most of you would be dead.”

No one could refute that. It was the truth. If he hadn’t returned, they’d probably be corpses by now.

“But I won’t let that happen again.” Nox raised his hand. “I’ve obtained something—something I can use to empower each of you. Not just a buff. A breakthrough, something to make you all more powerful!”

Gasps rippled through the group.

“You’re joking,” Raziel, the Lightning Prince, said, brows twitching. “How is that even possible?”

“I never joke about power.” Nox grinned as he activated one of the new class skills he had gained from his evolution.

[Mass Tame!]

Like the name suggested, it was a skill that allowed him to tame several beasts at once. And like all his previous class skills, it didn’t have any cooldown or mana consumption.

“Do you accept?” Nox asked.

“What more could happen? We could’ve been dead a few minutes ago anyway. If you can make me stronger like you claim, go ahead,” someone said as they stepped forward.

Hesitation.

Most hesitated, but they realized what the first person said was right. The next person that stepped forward was Zara, then Drake, Celestis, Valkor, Elise, Lumi, and Raziel.

After seeing that the key members had decided to trust Nox, the others didn’t hesitate any longer and stepped forward as well.

‘Very well then,’ Nox grinned.

It was time to add dragons to his ever-growing beast army.
