Chapter 616: The Last Kingdom Standing [1]
“So he started, huh,” Dracos mumbled under his breath after hearing the explanation from Thomas.

According to the Light Monarch, their suspicions about the Supreme Dragon Court not being trustworthy were indeed true.

“I couldn’t stop him. That power… he’s hundreds of times stronger than a Champion,” Thomas said through a fit of violent coughing.

Dracos fell into deep thought. Thomas was strong—arguably the strongest Monarch, at least according to the people of the Dragon Realm. For someone like him to be left in this near-death state, it meant Zhun’Var was truly terrifying.

“You’re in no shape to fight, Thomas. Rest for now,” he said as he gestured for one of the soldiers to take the Monarch away.

The Frost Monarch slowly looked into the distance.

Thomas had said that Zhun’Var had headed to the Lightning Kingdom after the fall of the Light Kingdom.

The Lightning Monarch was powerful. Many believed him to be the second most powerful Monarch, but Dracos was certain the Lightning Kingdom would fall as well.

The light element had hidden advantages against corruption, and yet even they were overwhelmed—their king forced to flee.

At that moment, Dracos sensed several powerful presences from the rear of the battlefield.

“Champions…” His eyes narrowed.

There weren’t just one but four Champions present at the rear. The frost dragons fighting in that position were being torn to shreds by these powerful existences.

The four had single-handedly slain about five hundred frost dragons in the span of twenty minutes, and more of his men continued to fall.

However, this didn’t extinguish the fire burning in their hearts. The valiant dragons rushed in, their eyes burning with resolve. It was as if they had already surrendered themselves to fate.

Most of them had children and wives at home. They knew they couldn’t afford to falter now, not when their families’ lives were at stake.

“For Frostpire!”

Dracos clenched his fist. For the second time in decades, the Frost Monarch felt an overwhelming flood of emotions surge through him.

Something snapped in him when he saw his soldiers dying. His body moved on autopilot as he charged toward the rear where the Scourge Champions were causing carnage.

The Frost Monarch launched a frozen spear that screamed through the air toward a Champion’s chest. The Scourge Champion attempted to swat it away, but its expression shifted into fear as it realized the momentum of the spear hadn’t decreased in the slightest.

It pierced the Champion’s chest so fast that the beast didn’t even know how it died.

Seeing one of their brethren fall, the remaining three Champions turned their focus toward the Frost Monarch and lunged at him.

He met them head-on.

Dracos opened his arms and a blizzard of frost exploded outward. The Scourge Champions—more intelligent than their mindless counterparts—tried to escape the trajectory of the blizzard, but as if it were alive, the frost spread faster and engulfed one of them.

It instantly turned into a frozen statue, which shattered as Dracos’s legendary spear pierced its heart.

The spear returned to his hand.

His eyes turned chillingly cold, growing a shade darker as he lunged at the remaining two Champions.

From the corner of his eye, he noticed several Scourge dragons trying to breach a part of the wall. The frost dragon soldiers there could hardly stop them.

“Tch!” He gritted his teeth and was forced to temporarily shift his focus to the wall. His spear shot out from his grasp and dealt with the beasts attempting the breach.

During this attack, he had severely compromised himself. The remaining Champions found an opening—or so they thought.

Thousands of ice spikes burst out of the ground, impaling each of them from their underbellies and bursting out through their skulls.

Just like that, the Frost Monarch dealt with the Scourge Champions swiftly—so fast that even their self-defense skill, which summoned the Alpha, failed to activate.

Sometimes, Dracos doubted whether that skill would even truly activate. The last time it had was during the last war.

For all he knew, they may have deceived them into fearing the Alpha’s arrival.

Now that he thought deeply about it—what if multiple Champions were seriously injured at once? Would the Alpha be able to split itself and respond in several places?

“That bastard might have just deceived us all this while…” Dracos’s eyes flashed, but he pushed the thought away and focused on the fight at hand.

Although the Champions had been dealt with, the army was still at large. He hadn’t even scratched the surface.

What was worse?

They kept pouring out of the forest like an unending wave.

“Halt!” his voice boomed across the battlefield. It was low, yet somehow traveled far and wide. All the soldiers—both transformed and partially transformed—retracted hundreds of steps in one swift motion.

Now the Frost Monarch stood before the Frostpire army. His hair fluttered in the wind. His spear, which had claimed the lives of thousands of corrupted beasts, trembled as if eager to kill again.

He watched the sea of Scourge dragons with a calm gaze.

The wind howled, as if sensing what was about to come.

He narrowed his eyes.

Before him stood over thirty thousand corrupted dragons. Their wings beat like war drums, their twisted bodies leaking thick smog. Some were once proud elemental dragons—now nothing more than puppets of the Scourge Alpha.

Behind him, the Frostpire army held its breath.

Then—

CLANG!

He slammed the butt of his spear into the ice-covered earth. A shockwave of freezing mist exploded outward from his feet.

The air shifted.

The clouds above twisted unnaturally.

And then… the temperature dropped.

So low that even frost dragons began to shiver.

Frost formed at the tips of their horns.

Even the corrupted dragons paused, sensing something was wrong with the air.

“…It’s time you all remember why I’m called the First Monarch,” Dracos muttered as he raised his spear.
