Chapter 624: Nox Vs the Scourge Alpha [1]
Nox courteously advanced towards the broken cocoon. He could easily tell from its appearance that there used to be something inside, however, it seemed as if whatever was inside was gone.
“Even the powerful aura I sensed some minutes ago has vanished without a trace.” He frowned as he walked around the cocoon, finding nothing strange with it. Then his gaze fell on the windows.
Those were in perfect condition as well, which made the frown on his face deepen. Instinctively, he exchanged Oblivion Edge for Glacier’s End—the greatsword which was much more powerful and destructive.
It was the same legendary greatsword the Frost Monarch had given him.
He suddenly became alert. Since everything was still in perfect condition, it could only mean one thing.
Whatever had been inside the cocoon was still present in this room.
Suddenly, at that moment, he felt a presence behind him.
He swiftly turned around and took a fighting stance, his eyes narrowing on the silhouette that stood at the far end of the room, staring at him.
It was a humanoid figure. Their height and appearance remained a mystery as they were perfectly shrouded in darkness.
“Who are you?” Nox demanded.
Silence.
The figure in the shadows didn’t respond.
Step! Step!
They approached slowly.
“Are you the Scourge Alpha?” he asked again, but still, there was no answer.
Then a smirk appeared on his face. “Could it be that the Scourge Alpha is deaf?”
The steps of the figure in the darkness abruptly came to a stop when they heard his provocative words.
It was the only reaction he had gotten so far, but just moments later, the humanoid figure seemed to continue moving, brushing off his antics as if it were child’s play.
He felt irritated at this. It was extremely frustrating that he couldn’t get any reaction from this person, but at the same time, he didn’t want to rush in, as this was most likely their domain.
After what felt like twenty seconds—but an eternity to him—the figure finally came into view, and when he saw them, his mouth couldn’t help but slack in surprise.
Standing several meters from him was a beautiful woman with raven-dark hair and blue eyes. A gown torn at the legs clung to her, accentuating her voluptuous curves and exposing her thighs.
Her skin was flawless, unmarred, and her face seemed carved from perfection itself—cold, regal, and utterly devoid of emotion.
He couldn’t help but feel this woman was familiar, but he couldn’t recall where he had seen her before.
But what truly stunned him wasn’t her beauty.
It was the aura she released.
A suffocating, regal pressure surged through the room—one that made even the air around her twist and darken. It was the same aura from the cocoon—but now, it was controlled.
“You… you’re the Alpha, aren’t you?” he asked, grip tightening on his sword. “I must say, of everything I expected you to be, a beautiful woman never crossed my mind even for a second.”
Although the Alpha, despite her harmless appearance, was extremely dangerous and had indirectly killed thousands through her army, he couldn’t deny the fact that she was beautiful.
“I am just as surprised as you are.” The Alpha spoke. Her voice carried a hint of anger as she regarded him with a calm gaze, hands behind her back.
“When I heard the Monarchs had sent their offspring, I thought they’d be led by one of those cowards. Who would have thought they’d send not just anyone, but a human?” she pointed out with a subtle smile. A look of shock flashed across his face for a moment.

How was she able to find out his race so quickly and with so much distance between them? The other Monarchs, except for Thomas, hadn’t even suspected anything, and somehow… somehow…
“She was able to tell so easily.”
Gabriel became even more alert, his guard shooting through the roof. His spine tingled as he readied himself to activate several destructive skills at the slightest sign of confrontation.
“Be at ease, human.” The Alpha smiled kindly, her eyes warm. If he were naive, he would’ve been easily fooled by her appearance, but what kept him sane was the reminder of who this person was.
She was the Ninth Monarch.
An existence so powerful that the Eight Monarchs had no choice but to match her strength. Even though he had many ultimate skills in his arsenal to play with, he didn’t dare act cocky and never underestimated her for even a second.
“I’m sure you must’ve learned about what happened here,” she said as she stepped forward, one step at a time. With her bare feet, she was alluring—and with a little wink, she could turn men into heat.
However, despite her nation-topping beauty, he didn’t falter for even a second. In fact, there wasn’t much of a reaction from him. If he could withstand Terra’s divine beauty, then he could definitely—
“I heard what happened,” he responded.
“Good. I purposely kept all the clues there, perhaps thinking you’d turn back. But your group seems to be very stubborn,” she claimed.
“The Eight Monarchs were wrong. They hid the truth from everyone,” he spoke in a firm voice. If he could resolve this issue with dialogue, he would happily do it. “We only learned about the history of the Ninth Element, Corruption, a while ago. But was turning your own people into mindless beings for the sake of revenge really worth it?”
“Hehehehehe.” The Alpha chuckled softly, as if not offended by Gabriel’s words.
“Ah… such righteous fire,” she said, smiling faintly, though her eyes shimmered with sorrow. “It’s been so long since I heard someone speak with such conviction. You remind me… of someone I once knew.”
She paused, raising one delicate hand. The air around her warped as black wisps curled upward like smoke, responding to her emotions.
“But conviction alone does not change history,” she said, voice cold again. “They called me a traitor. A monster. But they left out the part where I begged for them to listen.”
He didn’t respond. He simply watched her every movement, silently adjusting his stance.
“I didn’t want war. But they sealed our kingdom, burned our temples, and slaughtered my kin. And now, they send you to ‘cleanse’ what remains of us?” Her smile cracked for a brief second, revealing bitterness. “I should kill you where you stand.”
Black lightning surged from the ground as the entire chamber trembled. The air grew thick with tension as several objects placed around the throne room began to shatter.
“I knew it might come to this,” he sighed as he activated his ability. “I feel you. I’d have done the same thing if I were in your shoes. Unfortunately, the other side is pretty important to me—I need them for something. So this will be your end, Scourge Alpha.”
