Chapter 326: Fateless
Alister’s thoughts raced as he stood amidst the chaos, his gaze fixed on the system window hovering before him. The term “Fateless” gnawed at his mind. It wasn’t a bloodline ability he recognized, nor was it something mentioned in any of his memories of his past life.
‘What does it mean?’ he thought, his fingers instinctively moving to click on the term within the quest log for a description.
The system’s text appeared slowly, as though reluctant to reveal its secrets:
_________
Fateless: As a part of a soul unbound by the constraints of destiny, you are neither tethered to the threads of fate nor confined by its dictates. It is a blessing and a curse, for freedom from fate invites forces both divine and profane to correct the balance.
Beware the whispers of those who seek to claim what is not bound.
After all, you are only one half of a whole.
Effect: Influence fate… Just a bit
______
The words struck Alister like a physical blow. His breath hitched, and his heart thudded painfully against his chest.
“One half of the whole…” he whispered, his voice barely audible in all the roars of battle around him.
A memory surged forward, strenge yet vivid, like a wave crashing against a brittle dam. He saw a man standing beside him, identical yet different, the darkness around make it impossible to properly make out his physical or facial features.
But there was one things he coud meka out clearly….
The man’s sharp golden eyes that were exactly like his own, but filled with equal parts anger and mischief.
They were standing in a dark expanse… Some sort of ruined battlefield… but this one wasn’t one he had seen before, the air heavy with a suffocating stench.
“Until you let us become one again, victory will forever be beyond your grasp.” The man… his brother… said with a grin.
“Let me out… brother…”
“To rid yourself of darkness, you need greater darkness.”
Reality snapped back into focus as the screech of another sandworm pierced the air, shattering the fragile memory. Alister’s golden eyes flared with intensity as he lowered his hand from the system window.
“Focus,” he said to himself, forcing the lingering ache in his chest to the back of his mind.
“The past can wait. Right now, there are more pressing matters.”
“Finding Restria.”
He turned his gaze toward the remaining sandworms, his resolve hardening as he prepared to unleash the full might of his dragons.
Whatever Fateless meant, and whatever it tied to that memory, it was a mystery he would unravel… But not now.
The scorching air around Alister shimmered with heat waves as Cinder, the massive Crimson Inferno Dragon, leaned her colossal head toward him. Her fiery crimson eyes were filled with a rare softness as she gazed at him, her breath brushing against his skin.
“My lord ,” Cinder spoke, her deep voice resonating like the crackle of an ancient bonfire, “are you alright? You seemed… lost in thought.”
Alister blinked, momentarily startled by her perceptiveness. He straightened his posture, brushing aside the heaviness lingering in his chest. “I’m fine,” he said. “Just… thinking.”
Cinder gazed at him for a moment longer, her gaze lingering before she slowly lifted her head.
Alister’s gaze returned to Xavier and the others, who were in the midst of a fierce struggle against the remaining sandworms.
Xavier barked commands as he charged forward, his sword gleaming under the intense sun. “Karl, cover the left flank! Chase, pin it down!”

Karl, wielding his massive warhammer, intercepted one of the sandworm’s sweeping strikes. With an explosive grunt, he smashed his weapon into the creature’s side, deflecting its attack and forcing it to coil back in pain.
“It’s not going down without a fight!” he growled, sweat dripping down his brow.
“Keep it steady!” Chase called out, his hands glowing with icy energy. A frost-covered spear materialized in his grip. He hurled it with precision, striking the sandworm’s segmented body and encasing a portion of it in glistening ice.
The beast thrashed violently, shaking off the frozen layer but slowing significantly.
“Hit it now!” Chase commanded.
Derek leaped into action, his gauntlets glowing faintly as he slammed them into the ground.
A jagged spike of earth erupted from the sand, piercing the weakened section of the sandworm’s body. The beast screeched in agony, writhing as it began to crumble under the coordinated assault.
Mia darted in next, her movements a blur of agility. With a sharp whistle of wind at her back, she launched herself into the air and drove her sword into the sandworm’s exposed head. “It’s done!” she shouted as the creature collapsed in a lifeless heap.
Nearby, Lisa swung her flaming sword in wide arcs, carving through smaller sandworms with efficiency.
Her flames consumed them, leaving trails of charred remains in her wake. “Ethan, you’re clear!” she called out.
From the shadows, Ethan emerged gracefully, his twin daggers flashing. He moved like a ghost, slicing through the remaining enemies before vanishing back into the dark crevices of the dunes.
Xavier regrouped with his team, his orange hair glinting as he surveyed the battlefield. “One more down!” he called, his confident tone lifting their spirits.
Alister’s lips curled into a faint smirk as he watched the humans’ performance.
“They’re doing well,” he thought aloud, with a small touch of amusement.
Cinder chuckled, her deep, rumbling laughter shaking the sands. “Indeed. Their teamwork is admirable. Almost… inspiring.”
Alister’s smirk faded slightly as he folded his arms, the sharp gleam in his golden eyes returning.
“Oh well,” he said calmly. “I still don’t like the idea of being left behind.”
He raised his hand, the aura around him shifting as his voice filled with unyielding authority.
“My dragons, come forth!”
The air around Alister trembled cosmic rifts opened up behind him, his summons flying out of it and across the battlefield.
The ground split apart, fiery and electric energy pouring forth as roars echoed in response.
Cinder let out a deafening roar, her fiery wings unfurling as she signaled the arrival of her kin.
