Chapter 418: The Spar
A deafening shockwave tore through the wastelands as Alister and Galisk clashed mid-air. The sheer force of their impact sent ripples across the battlefield, splitting the cracked earth beneath them.
The sky trembled, dark clouds spiraling like a vortex as the air burned with raw energy.
Galisk grinned as he twisted his wrist, commanding the golden swords floating around him. The weapons blurred through the air, streaks of radiant light cutting through the battlefield like divine judgment. Each blade carried the weight of condensed magic, capable of slicing through steel like paper.
Alister met them head-on.
His golden-black scales glowed as his body moved with inhuman precision. A single sword came down toward him—he caught it with his bare hands, the blade screeching against his hardened scales.
Without pausing, he twisted, using the sword’s own momentum to fling it aside, sending it hurtling into another oncoming weapon, shattering both into radiant fragments.
More blades rained down.
Alister weaved between them, his reflexes blindingly fast. One sword grazed past his shoulder, leaving a shallow cut before his body instantly adapted, his scales hardening further.
He landed on the ground, skidding backward, his eyes locking onto his father.
Galisk stood above him, floating effortlessly with his arms crossed, smirking. The golden gates behind him pulsed as more weapons emerged, dozens upon dozens now hovering around him like celestial sentinels.
“Impressive,” Galisk mused, tilting his head. “But you’re only playing defense, son. If you want to defeat me, you’ll have to be bold.”
Alister exhaled slowly, his breath turning to mist.
Then he vanished.
Galisk’s smirk widened. “Finally.”
A burst of air erupted as Alister reappeared behind him, his fist coated in crackling ether. He drove it forward, aiming for Galisk’s back—only for his father to twist at the last second, intercepting with his forearm. The impact sent another shockwave through the wasteland, the force splitting the ground beneath them.
The golden swords shifted in an instant, realigning themselves like a storm of divine retribution. Galisk snapped his fingers, and the blades shot toward Alister from all directions.
Alister clicked his tongue. “Tch.”
He stomped his foot down, sending a surge of ether through the ground. A golden burst of ether erupted around him, deflecting the swords with a metallic clang. At the same time, he shot forward, closing the gap between him and his father.
Galisk responded in kind.
He swung his palm forward, and a golden spear materialized mid-motion. Alister dodged to the left, barely missing the strike as the weapon exploded behind him, sending golden flames roaring into the sky. The aftershock was enough to send him rolling across the wasteland.
But he recovered in an instant.
Alister’s body tensed, his ether surging.
He rolled his shoulders, the heat of battle coursing through his veins. His lips curled into a small smirk as he eyed his father, the golden radiance of his weapons casting long shadows across the wasteland.
“You’re quite impressive, old man,” Alister admitted with a touch of excitement.
Galisk chuckled, twirling a golden spear between his fingers before tossing it into the air and catching it effortlessly.
“Of course. I’m not the world’s strongest for nothing.”
From the sidelines, Miyu was practically bouncing with excitement, her voice echoed over the battlefield. “Alister! That was so cool! The way you redirected that sword’s momentum to break the others—flawless! And Dad! That counter with the golden spear? Perfect execution! The disruption it caused—ugh, so good!”
Both Galisk and Alister blinked, momentarily thrown off by her commentary.
Alister narrowed his eyes at her, then turned to Galisk who said, “Wait a second… she shouldn’t have been able to see all of that so clearly.”
Galisk’s gaze sharpened as he focused on Miyu. Her normally round pupils had thinned, slitted like a reptile’s.

His smirk returned, but this time with a knowing glint. “Well, well… looks like someone’s instincts are awakening.”
Miyu tilted her head, confused. “Huh? What do you mean?”
Alister sighed, rubbing his temples. “I knew this would happen eventually…”
Galisk let out a booming laugh. “You might want to teach her how to control that, son. It’d be a bit unusual if she went around in public with those eyes. Have you even told her yet?”
Miyu crossed her arms looking a bit annoyed. “Told me what?”
Alister clenched his fists, ether crackling around them. “You’re the one who said no getting distracted in a fight, old man!”
With that, he shot forward like a golden comet, closing the distance between them in an instant.
Galisk barely had time to react before Alister’s fist crashed against his forearm, sending out a concussive blast that sent both of them skidding backward.
Golden energy surged between them as Alister pressed the attack, his fists moving so fast they blurred as each moved so fast they broke the sound barrier.
Galisk countered with equal speed, his hands a whirlwind of golden light as he parried Alister’s strikes. With a sharp pivot, he spun, delivering a powerful kick toward Alister’s ribs.
Alister twisted mid-air, avoiding the blow by a hair’s breadth, before retaliating with a backhanded strike. Galisk caught it but was forced back several feet by the sheer force behind it.
“Tch. Not bad,” Galisk mused, rolling his wrist. “But I’m curious how you’d handle this.”
He spread his arms wide, and the golden gates behind him pulsed, releasing a torrent of golden chains that shot toward Alister like living vipers.
Alister’s eyes flashed as they narrowed.
He stomped the ground, summoning a burst of ether that sent shockwaves through the battlefield. His dragon scales thickened as he braced himself, preparing for the next clash.
Miyu, still watching from the sidelines, frowned.
Cinder, who had just stepped out of a portal, spoke, as she folded her arms. “Looks like this spar just got serious.”
Alister’s eyes gleamed as his ether surged, a violent burst of golden energy crackling with electricity. His aura expanded, sending shockwaves through the battlefield as the very air around him shifted.
