Teacher by day, Farmer by passion - Chapter 99
Chapter 99: Inn [1]
After lingering a little longer, Shan Yifeng finally pulled Liu Mei out of the void.
His expression remained calm, but his breathing was slightly heavier than before.
“Let’s go,” he said, his voice steady despite the exhaustion creeping in.
His soul power was nearly drained, having stayed in the void for far longer than he should have.
Liu Mei followed without question, the two retracing their steps to the wall they had initially passed through.
As they stepped out, Liu Mei’s eyes lit up with excitement.
“Doesn’t this feel like that wizard story Master used to tell us?” she said, practically bouncing on her feet.
“Jumping into walls and then boarding a train!”
Shan Yifeng gave her a sidelong glance but said nothing.
Liu Mei, as usual, continued rambling as they walked back toward the inn they frequent.
By the time they arrived, the scent of roasting meat filled the air, and Liu Mei wasted no time ordering chicken.
When their food arrived, she eagerly grabbed a piece, sinking her teeth in—only to immediately spit it out.
“Don’t eat that,” she said sharply, wiping her tongue with the sleeve of her robe.
Shan Yifeng didn’t hesitate. He dropped the piece of meat without a second thought.
A slow, amused chuckle echoed through the inn.
“Well, well… quite perceptive, aren’t you?”
The voice belonged to a woman, rich with amusement but laced with something sharper—something dangerous.
As if on cue, every patron in the inn—the ones drinking, eating, chatting—slowly turned their heads toward the two children.
Their gazes were hollow, their movements eerily synchronized.
At the entrance, a group of men stepped forward, weapons glinting under the dim lantern light.
A command followed, lazy yet absolute.
“Kill them.”
Liu Mei grinned, a wild glint in her eyes. Then she laughed—high-pitched, maniacal.
“Big Sis, are you seriously afraid of two little kids?” she mocked, tilting her head as if genuinely amused.
The woman didn’t answer.
Instead, another yawn rippled through the inn—deep, slow, and unconcerned.
It wasn’t just a sound. It resonated, pressing down on the room with a weight that made even the air feel thick.
And then—snap.
A formation activated.
The flickering lanterns dimmed. Shadows stretched unnaturally along the walls.

The ground beneath them pulsed with an ominous glow, lines of an intricate array snaking outward from beneath Shan Yifeng’s feet.
Panic seized the woman’s voice.
“What did you do?! What have you done?!”
She was no longer amused. She was frightened.
Liu Mei burst into laughter again, but this time, it was full of delight.
“You’re actually scared?” she taunted, her voice light and teasing. “Haha! That’s hilarious!”
The scene was almost absurd.
Two children, barely into their teens, standing in the middle of an inn full of armed killers—outnumbered, outmatched.
Yet, it wasn’t them who looked like prey.
It was everyone else.
Aria’s breath hitched. Her hands clenched into fists as she stared at the two children in front of her.
A formation?
Her thoughts raced. How? Was this a planned counterattack? Reinforcements? Impossible—she had investigated thoroughly. She had left no room for unexpected interference.
Yet, here it was. The lines of the formation pulsed beneath them, humming with power.
It had activated too quickly, too seamlessly, as if it had been waiting for them all along.
Her gut twisted. They must have known in advance.
Still her instincts continue to screamed at her ‘ They’ve dangerous!’, but her mind refused to accept it. They’re just children!
Yet when her eyes locked onto the girl—Liu Mei.
A chill had ran down her spine!.
Extremely Dangerous!
She felt it, an instinctive, primal warning. That girl—her presence, her aura—it was suffocating.
Aria had survived under her master for years, a woman who would slit a throat for even the slightest irritation.
She had learned to read danger. That was how she was still breathing.
And right now, every fiber of her being was telling her—this girl is just as terrifying as that elder.
Her fingers clenched the hilt until her knuckles turned white.
No. She would not let this spiral further.
She threw away all hesitation.
“What are you all waiting for?! Attack!” she screamed, her voice sharp and commanding.
The assassins hesitated only a second before charging forward.
The little girl moved first.
Liu Mei slipped through them like a shadow, weaving past blades and spears as if she was dancing through the battlefield.
A dagger glinted in her grip, flashing like silver lightning.
Throats were slit. Blood sprayed.
She cut them down effortlessly, one by one, her movements fluid and deadly—almost playful.
While Shan Yifeng seemed to be struggling.
A Silver Rank opponent was pressing him back, their strikes heavy and relentless. His breath came in ragged pants, his footwork faltering.
“Leader! This formation—if we kill that boy, it’ll collapse!” , one of Aria’s subordinate came over as he related the message.
Finally—some good news.
Aria’s eyes flickered with renewed determination. She turned her gaze toward the battlefield, toward the girl carving a path of blood through her men, moving like a wraith among corpses.
She gritted her teeth.
They couldn’t afford to waste time.
Her head snapped toward the Gold Ranks. “Go! Stop her!”
He’s weaker than expected! Aria thought when she saw this.
Aria’s heart leapt. There!
Her lips curled into a snarl.
“Focus on the boy first! Kill him!”
The assassins shifted.
Shan Yifeng’s eyes widened as the wave of enemies turned their sights on him.
Liu Mei’s head snapped around.
She had been too deep in the bloodshed, too reckless. She had charged forward, separated herself from him.
And now—
A wall of Gold Ranks stood between them.
A dozen men, each summoning their Soul Beasts.
Monstrous creatures materialized—serpentine shadows, armored wolves, flame-coated birds. The alley pulsed with their oppressive presence, their glowing eyes locking onto her.
A normal child would have hesitated.
Would have trembled. Shaken up!
But instead of getting afraid she grinned.
“Heh…” A light laugh escaped her lips, her dagger dripping red.
“A dozen of you?” She tilted her head, her eyes gleaming with something wicked.
“Are you all—worthy?”
