Chapter 829: Cash Grab
(2 Days Before the Arc Ship Lands, Terra Nova Online)
A sudden chime echoed through the game world as two notifications flashed across every player’s screen, signaling the final stretch of their journey in Terra Nova Online.
[System Notification: – Greetings players, it has been an honor for us to have hosted you for the past four years. However, like all good things, our journey together must also come to an end. The gaming servers will shut down after 24 hours, giving you one last day to enjoy the game to your heart’s content.
As a parting gift, all real-life work assignments for the day have been suspended. You are free to immerse yourself in the game for the full 24 hours without any restrictions.]
[System Notification: – Greetings players, since this is the final day of the game, the operators have decided to open a special System Store that will allow you to purchase in-game items and bring them into the real world—provided you are willing to pay the price.
All purchased items will be delivered to you upon landing, so please check the store if you are interested.]
The first notification was straightforward, serving as an official reminder from the Arc Ship staff that the game servers would be permanently shut down in just 24 hours.
The second, however, caused an immediate frenzy.
For the first time since Terra Nova Online launched, players were being given the opportunity to bring their hard-earned in-game wealth and power into reality.
It was an offer too tempting to ignore, and within minutes, hundreds of thousands of players flooded the System Store, eager to see what was available.
The listings, however, sparked confusion, as all items were available through purchase only by spending MP.
A low-grade mana potion was listed at 10 MP, while a full mana potion had a price tag of 2,000 MP.
Skill scrolls and weapons were priced upwards of 50,000 MP, even for lower-tiered options.
There were no discounts. No alternative payment methods. And no purchases could be made using in-game gold or silver.
But despite the costs, the players had no reference point to judge whether these prices were fair or not, since they had no understanding of the market rates.
Was 10 MP for a basic mana potion expensive? Or was it a bargain? Was 50,000 MP for a skill scroll an absurd markup, or was it standard?
With no baseline to compare to, the majority of players paid the prices listed on the store happily, as they decided to land on Terra Nova with essentials such as basic health potions and stamina potions secured, which would give them a piece of mind.
However, with most players not having more than 200-500 MP in savings, purchasing a weapon or anything similar was purely a dream for most.
To solve this problem, a few players pooled their resources together, to buy a single weapon amidst the group, while others paid a protection fee to rankers, who they trusted to protect them incase things went wrong.
Regardless of their approach, one thing was certain—the System Store had turned the final day of Terra Nova Online into a whirlwind of uncertainty and desperate decision-making, as a majority of the server spent their MP like there was no tomorrow, not knowing that any remaining MP that they saved, would be transferred to a secure bank account in their name once the event ended.
This was a deliberate scheme, plotted by the Universal Government in tandem with the Unity Government, as while it would be the Unity Government who would purchase and fulfill all orders being made today, it would be the Universal Government who would make a big fat commission on-top.
With roughly 249 million players still left alive aboard the Arc Ship, and each player spending an average of 200-300 MP each.
It was a 625 billion MP turnover, with roughly 500 billion in pure profits, split evenly amongst both the Universal Government and the Unity Government.
With the universal minimum wage set at 1MP for 6 hours of labor, the amount spent by most players today was akin to 4 months of their salary for a foreseeable part of their future lives to come.

(Leo’s POV, real world)
Having never had the chance to play the game until the last day, Leo never got caught up in the scam of the system store and instead received a different piece of metal card from Captain Kid.
“So this just came- in this morning. You now have a VIP banking account with the Universal Warrior’s Bank, with an account balance of an astronomical 927,000 MP.
You can find a branch for the Universal Warrior’s Bank on almost any righteous faction planet, it’s one of the biggest banks in the universe.
Or you can use this card to pay at any merchant outlet of your choice.

So, Keep it safe—” Kid said, as he handed Leo a black metal card that seemed to be made from an alloy that Leo did not quite recognise.
“Only 927,000? I remember having more money–” Leo protested upon receiving the card, as Kid shrugged his shoulders.
“There’s a minimum deposit, A one time VIP account opening charge, A card issuance charge.
These are things that I don’t determine, nor have any control over, so don’t grill me over it” Kid replied, as Leo let out a long sigh.
MP was the currency of the universe and having 927,000 MP stored away was a big big bonus for him.
Since Kid had already educated him about the market rates of most popular items, Leo knew that with nearly a million MP, he could live a comfortable retired life even if he did nothing else, as most Captains who served in the Universal Government, could not save this sum up even after working hard for it their entire lives.
“Well, it’s not so bad, if you survive to enjoy your wealth that is,” Kid jibed at the end, as Leo gave him the stare as he left his mansion.
