The Arcane God - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: The Basis of Refinement
Do we have to run like this every morning? Oscar thought before joining the running team.
Seeing Oscar coming over, Zachar quickly met him halfway and asked. “Oxcar, why did you have to get up so early?”
“Is it that early? Well, I get up every day at the first light of the dawn. I’ve already formed this habit.” Oscar answered, but couldn’t help asking. “By the way, didn’t the three of you practice magic during the night, and harness ether later in the morning? Then why did you come out here at this time?”
“Hey, Oxcar.” Zachar couldn’t help but smile mysteriously. Then he pointed at Lester, and said. “We are here to watch him. Believe it or not, he always feels sleepy during his morning practice. It was a funny sight to behold.”
Hearing this, Lester turned around and glared at Zachar, but didn’t say anything. He just accelerated and ran forward.
While they were talking, they suddenly heard Calder, who was standing by the door of the kitchen, holding his big smoke pipe filled with a small pinch of tobacco leaves, shouting. “It’s time to eat, kids, come over.”
As soon as Calder finished speaking, Zachar was the first to run over.
Maya grimaced, looking at Zachar’s back. “Damn Zachar, we know you’ll be the fastest. Your favorite time is the meal time.”
Oscar smiled at Maya and followed her.
But it didn’t escape Maya’s eyes. “Pfft, deadhead, why are you even laughing?”
Oscar shook his head in disbelief. He wondered where this little girl was learning all these words from?
At this time, master Oberon was already waiting at the dining table. After everyone sat down, Oberon said. “Everyone, let’s eat. Afterwards, you’ll all go to the learning hall. Today, on the first day of Oscar’s class, I’ll explain some basic knowledge about refinement to you. I know some of you already heard it before, but let’s consolidate on the knowledge again. Is this a problem to anyone?”
“Not a problem, master.” The five students suddenly shouted in unison, staring at the table full of food. There was clearly a sense of absent-mindedness.
“Okay, now let’s eat.” Oberon gave the order, and all of them immediately grappled for the food like hungry tigers.
Oscar was not quite used to it last night, but seeing everyone like this today, he couldn’t help but think of the scene in his previous life when he was studying in a boarding school. He remembered there were a total of five people in his dormitory in addition to his crazy roommate.
The five of them joined forces to save money when it came to food. Each meal of the day only served two dishes, and each person had two sausages.
When it was time for meal, the small table in their dormitory could not hold the five of them, so every time they wanted to eat, they put the food bowl in the middle of the ground, and the five of them would form a circle around it. If one eat faster enough, one could eat more, and if one eat too slow, one would only eat the leftovers.
In this regard, Oscar had propagated a good skill of being clever when eating. He was not too fast, nor too slow. So every time he ate, he would eat intelligently and watch the fun of others.
Thinking of these things from his previous life, Oscar smile knowingly, and then he recalled the unique skills he had learned in his previous life as he thought to himself.
Maya also quickly shouted while eating. “Oscar, how dare you? That’s my sister’s portion. Believe it or not, you’re in big trouble.”
The classrooms in Mystic Peaks branch were larger than other rooms, but they were still old. Oscar had heard from others that this was the old site of Mystic Peaks Academy when the academy was still in a budding stage.
There was a magic board in front of the classroom, and the tables and chairs below were quite new. There were ten sets of tables and chairs in total, which should be newly made. The five of them casually found their respective seats and sat down.
Oberon walked to the podium, and looked at the students. Then he took the chair behind the podium and sat down “Because Maya and Oxcar are both new students this year, we’ll start with the basis of refinement again. Maya, I’ll start with you. So, tell me, why do you want to become a true refiner? In other words, what is the purpose of your refinement?”
Maya stood up immediately, and answered. “Master, it’s for the sake of becoming stronger. I came from a family of refiners. I’m young, and definitely not as powerful as them. That’s why I want to become a refiner, to work hard to surpass them!”
“Good.” Oberon nodded, turned his head and asked Oscar, “Oscar, what is your own purpose?”
Oscar stood up slowly, suppressing the hatred and sadness in his heart, and said. “I also want to become stronger, stronger than the dreads. Strong enough to protect the people around me from them!”
“Well said!” Oberon looked at Oscar, and could feel that the child seemed to have something on his mind, but he decided not to talk about it. So he continued. “In this world, power is everything. Becoming stronger has always been the common goal pursued by us human beings.”
“And survival, master.” Zachar quipped in.
“Yes, and survival. By our sheer power, we have carved out a space for ourselves and we now occupy half of the entire world, after thousands of years. Nonetheless, the antherions are still our greatest enemies. Every year, every month, every day, every moment of our lives, humans die tragically under the ravaging power of the antherions. That’s why we become true refiners”

Oscar listened to Oberon’s explanations, and clenched his teeth, his fists folded tightly under the table.Oberon continued. “Since thousands of years ago, humans and the antherions started a full-scale war, the main generals of both sides have been killed and many more have been injured, and their vitality has been severely damaged. The war not only brought us humans together, but delivered us a devastating blow. The same is true for the dreads.”
“It sounds really bad.””
Yes, it was really bad.”
