Chapter 62: Echoes: The Dead And The Dying [IV]
Surprisingly, the crystal shield that Oberon had conjured in a haste was quite able to deflect Daghr’s sonic shock through its multiple facets.
Only a small amount of shockwave passed through the crystal, and its power was greatly reduced.
So, it did not cause any noticeable harm to any of them.
Seeing that the white wyvern’s shield blocked the attack of the dragonborn, Oberon immediately turned the wyvern around and fled. But a streak of the shadow song hit the wyvern’s back, resulting in a bright sparkles of light.
The white wyvern phantom disappeared, and the five mages were scattered about by the huge impact of the attack. When they looked around, their numbers had turned into four.
Londyn, who located at the back of the white wyvern as a defense, was completely disintegrated, leaving no bones behind.
With the disappearance of the back of the white wyvern, the phantom magic immediately shattered and dispersed.
“Nooo!” Kai yelled. The four crystals in front of him suddenly turned into a large spear and flew towards Daghr with a dazzling brilliance.
Daghr snorted in disgust: Self-exploding crystal? This petty attack had no hold on him..
Then a streak of shadow wave shot out of his mouth, detonating the glazing spear in the air.
With the explosion of the spear, Kai screamed and fell from the air.
Kiara and Shannon were very close to him at this time, so they dashed towards his direction at the same time, catching him before he could hit the ground.
Oberon, who was shocked by Kai’s actions, was even more bewildered when he saw a flash of light shot out of Daghr’s eyes, straight into his mind. He found his body frozen as he fell on his back.
“Oberon!” Shannon exclaimed and ran towards the frozen mage.
And just at this moment, a figure appeared in front of the surviving mages like lightning, blocking Daghr’s attack.
“Kai, hold on.” Kiara held Kai’s body, and said apprehensively before casting a spell. Then, four essence crystals which were above her head began to shine brightly.
The Blessings of Water was a dangerous spell for a silver-level mage to cast, knowing that the spell caster would be affected by the forbidden spell. It would permanently exhaust the caster’s essence. From then on, there would be no way for the caster to advance in powerbase.
But Kiara had no choice. As for the repercussions on her power base, it was of little importance to her. Kai’s life was even more precious to her. Even if she was to exchange her own life for his, she would do it without hesitation.
As she continued to utter the spell, a soft ray of light slowly shot out from her essence crystal and continued to expand until it enveloped Kai’s body.
The four crystals were continuously but slowly rotating above Kai’s body, providing the source of power for the spell.
At this moment, Shannon, who was holding Oberon’s stiff body, did not know what to do for a while. Oberon’s body had no visible injury, but he was as stiff as a dead person, albeit a faint beating in his heart.
It showed that he was clearly breathing in air, but he wasn’t moving.
What could possibly happened to him? Although she could provide healing magic, for a while, she didn’t even know what to do due to her state of shock.
When she was beginning to be extremely anxious, a soft white light shot from a distance and shone on Oberon. A tender force shook Shannon’s arm that was holding Oberon, forcing her to retract her hands.
Soon afterwards, she saw Oberon’s body slowly rising under the radiating power of this white light. When the figure in the distance approached them, she could clearly see that this white light was emitting from his hand.
Myrgath returned to Daghr’s side and said in a low voice. “Secondborn, the human reinforcements have arrived, and some of them have high power level. I think we should leave now, and then destroy this human tribe later in the future. This sacred tree is now in our hands. When we go back, I will send our clan members here to guard it.”
Daghr initially wanted to fight with these high-level refiners, so as to explore the opportunity to improve his own power base, but when he saw a platinum light mage appeared among the humans, he dismissed the idea.
For the black dragons, who were solely based on dark attributes, their biggest bane were the human mages of the light attribute.
Even if a light mage of the same power level as himself emitted a low-level healing light, it would cause damage to the dragonkind.
The Seconborn of the dragonkind gritted his teeth, cursing the forsaken light mage in his heart. He slowly backed off together with the leader of the bear dreads.

When he was at a fair distance away, he turned into a massive dragon and flew towards the depths of the forest.

Oscar burst into tears when he heard Oberon’s tale.
Sadly, his tribe had been undergoing miserable calamities before he was even born. The two annihilating attacks he by heard and saw were carried out by the Seconborn of the dragon clan, Daghr.
Not only his parents, but his grandparents had also died in the hands of the dragonborn.
Now, he had a great hatred for the dragonkind. Even if Daghr smashed his body into ten thousand pieces, it would not be enough to eliminate the hatred in his heart.
He looked up to the sky, and shouted. “Daghr, I, Oscar, have a death grudge against you in this life!”
[Beast Slayer, can you refrain from swearing oaths of Vengeance for the time being? It’s a little bit distracting. I need to concentrate on my awareness]
“Things are far from over, child.” Oberon sighed, and his eyes became cloudy as he continue to tell the tale. “When Daghr’s dragon eye attack hit me, I thought I was dead…”
