The Arcane God - Chapter 66
Chapter 66: Echoes: The Departures
Oberon hugged Shannon’s waist from behind. The two of them quietly stared at the beautiful scenery of the foggy mountain with its undulating ripples, and their eyes were full of trance-like tears.
Since knowing that Shannon cast the forbidden spell for him, the two of them recuperated in the city for a few days before leaving for their home.
And Callahan, the High Magus, also followed because he was worried about the safety of the two of them.
After all, the physical condition of the two was no different from that of ordinary people at this time.
Although Oberon survived the ordeal, and would live, his powerbase was seriously fractured, and he could no longer mobilize his essence.
And Shannon lost her essence base and vitality after casting the forbidden spell. If it wasn’t for a high-level light mage like Callahan who came to her rescue in time, she knew she would have died long time ago.
Kaiya and his wife also left on the same day, saying that they were going to Kiara’s hometown to visit her parents. They would stay there to harness ether and practice magic for a while before making further plans.
Magus Hawthorn also decided to protect the two and went together with them.
After Oberon and Shannon returned home, they held a grand wedding.
After the whole village was in a festive mood for more than ten days, Oberon said that he needed to return to the academy urgently, so he said goodbye to his relatives again and left.
Under the protection of Callahan, the husband and wife, while traveling back to the academy, took time to visit the famous South Mountains to see the beautiful scenery of nature.
“What a beautiful sea of clouds.” After a long time, Shannon finally sighed.
“Well, if you like it, how about we make our home here, just the two of us?” Oberon looked at the sea of clouds in front of him, and his eyes also showed a great deal of fascination. “What do you say?”
“It’s too late, don’t you think?” Shannon smiled bitterly and murmured. “After so many years, it seems we have really missed the time to cherish the precious things we have until they are lost.”
“I will try my best to accompany you to find what we’ve lost.” Oberon clung to her hand tightly.
It had been a month since she came out, and Shannon’s physical condition was getting worse and worse. Callahan could only use some simple recovery methods to sustain Shannon’s weak body. Other healing magical means and spells had already lost their effects.
“Oberon, do you know why my sister hasn’t been married for so many years?” Shannon asked but didn’t wait for his answer, and muttered softly. “Because she also likes you. Maybe she is waiting for her time to see how things would pan out. So, if we can’t be together, why don’t you let her take care of you in my place?”
Oberon was silent, how could he not know about Sharon’s feelings for him? But who he loved was Shannon, and his feelings for Sharon could only be turned aside.
“Oberon, when I die, let Sharon take care of you in my place.” Shannon looked at the beautiful sea of clouds, but couldn’t hide the loneliness on her face.
“No, I want you to stay with me forever.” Oberon hugged Shannon tightly, put his head on her hair, and breathed in the faint fragrance of her hair. “We can’t be apart.”
“Oberon, I’m a little cold, let’s go.” After a long while, Shannon said quietly. The she turned around and walked down the mountain with the dual mage beside her.
A month later, Oberon brought Shannon back to Profound Academy under the protection of Callahan.
With the slow dissipation of her vitality, Shannon was so weak that she could no longer walk by herself. Oberon bought a carriage on the road, and Callahan drove them back to the academy.
Recalling how high-spirited Oberon and the two of them were when they left half a year ago, nobody expected that today, half a year later, the two of them would return, with one dying and the other disabled.
After learning what happened to Oberon and his wife, Shannon’s parents didn’t have much to say about who to blame.
As the leaders of the Mystic Peaks Academy, they knew the helplessness of this kind of thing. So, they didn’t complain about their daughter’s decision to sacrifice her life for the one she loved.
When Shannon was about to die, she called Oberon and Sharon to her presence and left them a few last words. “My dearest sister, I know that you lied to me when you said that you won’t marry before I’m married. I know that you have always liked Oberon, so you never got married because of him. Now that I’m leaving, I will give you my blessings to love him for a lifetime in my place.”
Then, she said to Oberon again. “My dearest husband, after I leave, you must love Sharon like you love me, she is my most beloved sister, so you must promise me not to let her down .”
Facing Shannon’s entrustment, Oberon nodded and agreed despite his heartache.
After Shannon’s death, because of excessive grief, her parents left the academy’s affairs to Sharon to take care of, and then retreated into the background, leaving a solitude life.

However, contrary to his promise, Oberon did not stay with Sharon. In his heart, his true companion had left him forever. It would live in his memory and stay in his heart forever.
So, every time he saw Sharon, who looked exactly like Shannon, he would feel an inexplicable heartache. He would silently tell himself that this lady was Sharon, not his own Shannon. She would never be.
In order not to make his heart hurt, Oberon began to avoid Sharon intentionally, maybe if he couldn’t see her, his heart wouldn’t hurt anymore.
What more, his power base was damaged, and his essence could not be mobilized, so his world seemed to have collapsed on him all at once.
Without essence, wouldn’t he be a true cripple? Even low-level monsters could easily kill him.
So after Shannon died, he was depressed for a long time.
Finally one day, he seemed to remember something in a trance. Something about attacks, about him not having soul essence, and about some magical weapons from that strange dream he had in a trance.
He clearly recalled that in the dream, he saw different magical weapons that could initiate a powerful attack without using soul essence.
Yes, he remembered what those weapon looked like. He would make it! He must make it! After making it, he would no longer be a crippled mage.
Hence, he started frantically researching as if he was a drowning person who suddenly grabbed a life-saving straw.
For a long time, he stayed in his house, drawing pictures while recalling, or constantly rummaging for useful materials in the library.
As long as Oberon felt that something in a book was useful, he would study it for a long time. Sometimes, he would stay in the library and would not come out for days and nights.
For Oberon’s crazy actions, Sharon believed he was keeping himself busy due to his condition.
As for their relationship, she didn’t force it. The mage’s soul was already broken, so she didn’t want him to be suffocated again. Maybe time would change everything.
In a blink of an eye, several years had passed. Oberon’s power base finally recovered a little bit, and a portion of his essence could be mobilized.
But it still couldn’t reach the level of manifesting essence crystals.
After so many years of research, the dual mage managed to create crude models of two types of Etherbows, Etherspears, Etherstaffs and Etherswords. Crude models of the weapons from his memories.
