The Bigshot's Superstar Wife - Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Death Goddess
Athena drifted into a peaceful sleep, her body wrapped in the warmth of Mors’s embrace.
The night air was cold, biting against the skin, but the closeness of their bodies created a cocoon of heat.
Despite the comfort, Athena’s mind remained alert, guarded by the lingering doubts and uncertainties about the man lying beside her.
She couldn’t trust him completely, not yet. They were bound by the law of marriage, but how could she truly place her life in the hands of someone she barely knew?
The weight of her cautiousness pressed heavily on her chest, yet she couldn’t deny the sense of security she felt when he held her.
For tonight, she would set aside her doubts. But only for tonight. As the minutes passed, her mind slowly drifted, and before she knew it, she was lost in the depths of a dream.
In the dream, Athena found herself standing in utter darkness. The emptiness surrounded her like an impenetrable void, and for a moment, she wasn’t sure where she was.
Why does this place feel so familiar? she thought. Her eyes adjusted to the dim surroundings, and the faint outline of a stage appeared before her.
Wait, markings? She noticed strange symbols etched into the ground beneath her feet. Where am I? Is this a dream or…
Suddenly, purple light bathed the hall, casting eerie shadows against the walls. Huh? This is an ancient hall! How did I…
Athena’s gaze shifted, and she noticed intricate engravings decorating the surfaces, like ancient records carved into the very stone.
The pictures told a story, one that seemed to come alive before her eyes. There, in the etchings, was a woman. Her figure was strong and resolute, wielding a large sword.
The blade’s hilt was adorned with a detailed picture of a dragon, its eyes fierce and watching as if the sword itself was a creature of myth. That’s a beautiful story.
The woman stood tall and confident, practicing her craft beneath the moon, its shape perfectly mirrored in the engraved illustrations.
As Athena traced her fingers along the drawings, she saw the woman fighting beasts and demons.
Each image seemed to tell of a battle, a war against dark forces that stretched through time. Isn’t this… the story of the Death Goddess? Athena’s mind raced.
She had seen some version of this tale before, back on Earth. But how could this ancient legend have found its way here, into her dream? Am I thinking too much?
Just as she was about to delve deeper into the mystery, a voice echoed through the hall, breaking the silence and the flow of her thoughts.
“Welcome, my child. I have waited long for you.”
Who is that? The voice was soft, yet filled with an overwhelming sense of authority, as though it had been waiting for this moment for an eternity.
“You are the one chosen to carry the legacy. To wield the sword. The burden of the goddess is yours.”
I am? Athena froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She turned, trying to locate the source of the voice, but the darkness remained impenetrable. Was it the same…
Who was speaking to her? And why did it feel as though this voice had been expecting her all along?
Athena’s breath caught in her throat as realization dawned on her. The sword. The engravings. The Death Goddess. Wasn’t this the heirloom of the Angelus family?
This wasn’t just a dream, it was a message, a calling. A part of her knew this, deep within her, but another part resisted the idea.
She had been an assassin in her past life, yes, but this? This was something entirely different. Is this his way of revenge on me?
She took a cautious step forward, her feet barely making a sound on the cold floor. “What do you mean? What legacy? I…”
She paused, a strange feeling settling in her chest. “Why me?”
The figure in the shadows stepped closer, and Athena could now make out the faintest outline of a face, ancient and ageless, with eyes that seemed to gleam with an unsettling knowing.

“Because you have carried the mark of the Death Goddess long before you even knew of it,” the voice explained, a soft smile curling beneath the hood.
A fortune teller once told me…
“You are the reincarnation of the one who once stood as her champion. The sword you see is meant for you.”
But I never believed in magic or miracles.
“The power it holds is yours to command, but you must accept the responsibility.”
The room seemed to pulse with the energy of those words, and Athena’s mind spun. She had always known there was something more to her existence, but this?
This was beyond anything she had imagined. The legends, the whispers in her past life, they all pointed to this moment, yet she was unprepared.
“What do I have to do?” she asked, her voice steady despite the whirlwind inside her.
The figure raised a hand, and the purple light grew brighter, revealing more of the intricate designs on the walls.
The images of the woman, wielding the sword, clashing with demons, beasts, and darkness. Athena’s heart pounded in her chest as the pieces fell into place.
“You must reclaim the sword,” the voice said, “and fulfill the oath of the Death Goddess. Only then will you truly understand the power you hold and the life that awaits you…”
Athena’s mind raced, the burden of the responsibility settling heavily upon her shoulders.
But she also felt something else, something stirring deep within her, a fire igniting in her chest.
This is my path, she thought, her voice steady now, even as her hands trembled. I will face this challenge. I will accept the power. But I won’t do it alone.
The figure nodded, as though sensing her resolve.
“You are not alone, child. The journey will be long, and the road will be fraught with danger, but remember, you are not just Athena Demerin.”
“You are the heir to a legacy. The Death Goddess lives within you.”
With those final words, the darkness closed in, the light dimming until only silence remained.
Athena’s heart raced as she stood in the void, the weight of the revelation settling in her bones.
The dream began to fade, but the truth, the truth was something she couldn’t shake. It would stay with her, guiding her through the uncertainty that lay ahead.
And as her eyes fluttered open, the dawn of a new day breaking through the hut, she knew that her life had changed forever.
The path she had chosen was no longer just about survival, it was about embracing her destiny and finding her place in the world she had been thrust into.
I am…
