The Bigshot's Superstar Wife - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Endless Battle
“They’re relentless,” Athena said, her voice strained as another wave descended.
“Focus,” Mors replied, his tone calm but firm.
As the battle raged on, the sky seemed to darken further, the infected creatures coming in endless waves.
Athena and Mors fought back to back, their teamwork seamless, their resolve unwavering.
And yet, a nagging thought lingered in Athena’s mind. How many more waves would come before they could finally rest?
The battle intensified as the flying creatures swarmed around them. Their movements were erratic and unpredictable, making it harder for Athena and Mors to strike with precision.
Each beast seemed to be more resilient than the last, and their bodies pulsed with a strange energy, hinting at a more powerful strain of the Zerg virus.
The air grew thick with the scent of decay and the screeches of the creatures filled the sky, creating a cacophony that echoed through the trees.
Athena swung her sword with fluid grace, each strike cleaving through the air, but the creatures were faster, dodging and circling above them.
She could feel the difference in their power, the way the air seemed to shimmer with each of their movements.
These were no ordinary infected beasts, something was different about them.
“I can’t get a clear shot!” Athena shouted, frustrated. The beasts darted and swooped too quickly, their erratic flight patterns making it almost impossible to land a blow.
Mors glanced up, his eyes scanning the chaos above them. “They’re not just mindless beasts. They’re coordinated, almost like they’re being controlled by a higher-minded being.”
Athena’s gaze narrowed as she fought off another creature. “That means the leader must be nearby, but where?”
They fought back to back, the intensity of the battle mounting with every passing minute.
Athena’s sword slashed through another creature, but it was clear that the leader was keeping itself hidden, directing its forces from a distance.
The infected flying beasts had an unnatural cunning to their attacks, and their movements felt more like a well-rehearsed strategy than the usual chaotic assault of mindless creatures.
Mors growled low in his throat, his eyes sharp. “This is more than just an infection. This is a tactical assault. They’re waiting for something.”
Athena wiped the sweat from her brow, her breath heavy. “But what are they waiting for?”
The ground trembled beneath them as another wave of infected beasts swooped down from the sky.
The air felt heavier, charged with a sense of impending doom.
Athena’s heart raced as she realized that the battle was far from over, and the true leader, the mastermind behind the chaos, had yet to reveal itself.
“I think we’re being lured into something,” Mors said, his voice low, but Athena could hear the tension in his tone. “This isn’t just about fighting. It’s about survival.”
Athena’s mind raced. “We need to find the leader before they bring in more reinforcements. If we don’t stop it now, the whole area will be overrun.”
But even as they strategized, the flying creatures seemed to multiply, swooping down from every direction.
Athena’s muscles burned with the effort, her sword cutting through the air as she fought relentlessly.
And yet, the elusive leader remained hidden, its control over the beasts growing stronger.
With each strike, Athena felt herself being pushed further and further into a corner.
The creatures seemed endless, their strength unnaturally enhanced by the new strain of the virus.

Where is the leader? she thought desperately.
Then, as if the thought alone had summoned it, Athena caught a glimpse of movement among the trees.
A figure, a shadow, emerged from the dense foliage, its eyes glowing an unnatural red.
“The leader…” Athena murmured, narrowing her gaze.
Mors glanced in the same direction, his jaw tightening. “It’s about time.”
They both knew what had to be done.
The leader’s presence was overwhelming, its energy suffocating the air around them.
Athena could feel the tension in her muscles, the way her instincts screamed at her to strike, to finish this once and for all.
The creature hovered above them, its wings beating with a rhythmic, almost hypnotic sound, as though it was assessing them, calculating its next move.
Mors stepped forward, his eyes locked on the leader. His expression was grim, but there was a determination in his gaze.
“We need to strike quickly before it summons more of those things.”
Athena nodded, her grip tightening around Arthivian. The sword pulsed with dark energy in her hands, the anticipation of battle rising in her chest.
“I’ll take the left. You go for the right. We don’t let it escape.”
The leader’s glowing red eyes shifted toward them, and for the first time, Athena saw a flicker of intelligence in them, calculation.
It wasn’t just a mindless beast. It was aware of its surroundings, and its enemies. With a snap of its wings, it shot toward them, faster than anything they had encountered so far.
Athena leaped to the side, narrowly avoiding the creature’s claws as it passed, her sword slicing through the air where it had been moments before.
She barely had time to recover when it spun around, its wings sending a gust of wind that nearly knocked her off her feet.
Mors was already in motion, his sword flashing as he moved in close to engage. But the creature wasn’t making it easy, it was fast, agile, its movements unpredictable.
The way it darted in and out of the shadows, weaving through the trees and rocks, made it almost impossible to land a blow.
Athena’s eyes narrowed. She could sense it, the leader was toying with them, testing their limits.
Mors gritted his teeth. “It’s not attacking directly. It’s waiting for something.”
Athena darted to the left, using the cover of the trees to get closer, her eyes tracking the leader’s every move. “Then we can’t give it that time. We need to force it into a corner.”
The leader turned its gaze on her, and for a split second, their eyes locked. Athena felt a chill run through her veins, an eerie sense of recognition. It knows me, she thought.
Before she could act on the realization, the creature lunged, faster than lightning.
Athena swung Arthivian in a wide arc, catching the leader across its chest, but the creature barely flinched.
It let out a guttural roar, its wings flaring in anger as it surged forward, claws outstretched.
