The Bigshot's Superstar Wife - Chapter 93
Chapter 93: The Confession
The following day, the warship rumbled as it descended through the atmosphere of Planet Asenus, the vibrations reverberating through every corridor.
The princess, still wearing her disguise as Miss El, stood near the observation window, her eyes fixed on the swirling clouds outside.
The descent was smooth, but her heart was not. A storm brewed within her chest, restless and unyielding.
The weeks spent aboard the warship had unraveled something she never anticipated, her growing attachment to Lawrence Demerin.
It was not the fleeting infatuation of a sheltered princess but something deeper, something that made her chest tighten whenever she thought of him.
His calm, composed demeanor, his unwavering sense of duty, and even the occasional softness in his gaze haunted her thoughts day and night.
Her hands clenched into fists as she took a deep breath. The landing was imminent, and soon they would part ways.
She couldn’t leave without saying what had been weighing on her heart.
She knew it was foolish, she was a hidden princess, pretending to be someone else, and Lawrence was a man of duty who likely never even considered her in that light.
But if she didn’t say it now, she might never get another chance.
The ship gave a final jolt as it landed with a metallic hiss. The overhead lights flickered momentarily, signaling the successful docking procedure.
The princess closed her eyes for a moment, gathering every ounce of courage she had.
“Miss El,” a soldier’s voice crackled through the comm. “We’ve landed safely. Major General Demerin will disembark shortly.”
Her heart raced. This is it.
She turned on her heel and walked swiftly through the corridors toward the command deck, where she knew Lawrence would be wrapping up his duties.
The polished floors reflected her determined expression as she moved through the empty hallways. Most of the crew were already preparing for their landing operations.
When she reached the command deck, Lawrence was there, his broad back facing her as he gave his final orders to his subordinates.
His presence was as imposing as ever, his uniform immaculate and his posture rigid. When the last officer saluted and left, he turned, clearly surprised to find her standing there.
“Miss El?” His eyebrows lifted slightly. “Is something the matter?”
The words caught in her throat. She had rehearsed this moment in her head a hundred times, yet now that she stood before him, everything she planned to say dissipated like smoke.
She swallowed hard and forced a shaky smile. “I… wanted to talk to you before we leave the ship.”
His gaze sharpened with curiosity, but he nodded. “Go ahead.”
She hesitated, her heart hammering in her chest. The warship around them seemed to fall into an eerie silence, as if the universe itself held its breath.
“I’ve been…thinking about us,” she began, her voice low but steady.
“About the time we’ve spent together here. I know it might sound silly to you, but I’ve grown to care about you. More than I should.”
Lawrence’s expression didn’t change, but something in his eyes shifted, a flicker of surprise, perhaps, or maybe discomfort.
His hands, which were clasped behind his back, tightened slightly.
“You’ve grown to care about me?” he repeated softly, as if testing the words.
The princess took a deep breath and stepped closer. “Yes,” she whispered. “I’ve fallen for you, Lawrence.”
The confession hung in the air like a fragile thread. The princess felt exposed, and vulnerable in a way she had never experienced before.

Her pulse roared in her ears as she watched him, waiting for his response.
Lawrence’s face remained unreadable. His jaw tightened slightly as he exhaled through his nose. “Miss El,” he said after a long pause, his voice low but firm.
“I appreciate your honesty. But you shouldn’t feel that way about me.”
Her heart cracked. “Why not?”
“Because I’m not interested in love,” he said bluntly. “Nor do I have the time or inclination to pursue it.”
The words hit her like a cold, unrelenting wave. She took a step back as if the physical distance might lessen the sting.
“But… we’ve shared so many moments together. The walks, the conversations. I thought…”
“You thought wrong,” Lawrence interrupted, though his tone wasn’t unkind.
“I never intended to give you the impression that there could be more between us. I serve my family and my responsibilities. Love has no place in my life.”
Tears stung her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. “So you’re saying I should just forget about what I feel?”
“Yes,” he said without hesitation. “It would be best for both of us if you moved on.”
The finality in his tone crushed her. She stood there, swallowing the lump in her throat, feeling the heat of humiliation prickling beneath her skin.
He didn’t soften his stance or offer even the smallest glimmer of hope. His eyes, though not cruel, were resolute.
He truly doesn’t care, she thought, a bitter realization sinking into her bones.
All the stolen glances, the subtle smiles, the gentle conversations under the stars, she had read too much into them.
To him, she had been nothing more than a passenger on his ship, a fleeting presence destined to be forgotten once the mission ended.
“I understand,” she said softly, forcing the words out through the suffocating weight in her chest. “Thank you for your honesty, Major General.”
She turned away before he could respond, her vision blurring as she walked toward the exit.
Her heart ached with every step. The ship’s hallways, once familiar and comforting, now felt cold and suffocating.
By the time she reached her quarters, the tears she had fought so hard to contain spilled down her cheeks.
She collapsed onto the bed and clutched her pillow tightly, stifling her sobs. The pain was sharp, unexpected, and utterly consuming.
How foolish I was, she thought, clutching the pillow like it might somehow mend her shattered heart.
To believe that a man like him could ever see me as more than a passing acquaintance.
The hours dragged by as the warship completed its docking procedures. Outside, Planet
Asenus lay beneath a sky streaked with crimson clouds, a vast, unfamiliar landscape waiting to be explored.
Yet, for the princess, the planet’s beauty was lost beneath the weight of her broken heart.
