Chapter 56: Rage
Sophie stood frozen, listening to Christine’s muffled sobs, feeling her anger rising with each passing moment.
Sure, Adrian Blackwood was wealthy, smart, and handsome – but her boss was nothing but a damn beast!
After a few seconds of hesitation, she stomped her foot in frustration and decided to go downstairs to confront her boss.
In the living room, she ran into the family doctor who was heading out. They agreed to confront Adrian together – one to demand answers, the other to warn him about being gentler in the future.
As soon as they stepped outside, they saw more than a dozen men lying on the ground, groaning in pain.
Sophie tried to reach Adrian, but James blocked her path. She pushed her brother aside and witnessed the aftermath of a violent fight.
Wesley’s bodyguards lay scattered on the ground. Despite their professional attire, they had proven no match for Thomas, who had taken down most of them. Several appeared to have broken bones, rolling around clutching their arms and legs.
Wesley had always relied on numbers – nothing had changed since childhood.
When Ethan was five, Wesley had gathered seven or eight kids to beat him up in the park. Ten-year-old Adrian had come alone to avenge his brother.
Now the roles were reversed – Wesley had brought his bodyguards to avenge his brother whom Adrian had destroyed.
Adrian stood in the center of the chaos, tall and imposing. He’d removed his suit jacket, wearing only a black vest over his white shirt. His muscular chest heaved as he breathed, his strong arms visible where he’d rolled up his sleeves, held by black armbands that emphasized his powerful forearms.
He was systematically landing punch after punch on Wesley’s face.
Wesley looked half-dead, his head lolling with each impact as blood poured from his forehead, eye sockets, nose, and mouth. His head resembled a bloody balloon, red liquid streaming down to pool on the ground.
Sophie was so terrified she couldn’t speak, quickly hiding behind James, with a trembling Daniel cowering behind her.
The family doctor took one look at the situation and abandoned any thought of gentle warnings or advice. Who would dare interrupt now and risk becoming the next punching bag? He hastily nodded goodbye to James and slipped away through a side door, muttering something about another appointment.
Wesley’s timing couldn’t have been more perfect – Adrian had been a powder keg of rage just waiting to explode.
Minutes earlier, Wesley had arrived with his gang, looking like a mobster with four cars and over a dozen men creating an intimidating black mass at Adrian’s doorstep.
Wesley jumped out first, wielding a metal pipe. Without a word, he charged at Adrian, screaming demands for him to kneel and beg forgiveness.
James’s heart nearly stopped when he saw Wesley – over six feet tall – swinging that pipe straight at Adrian’s head.
Thomas had started forward to handle the situation, but Adrian coldly said “No need,” standing perfectly still with his hands in his pockets, his ice-cold gaze fixed on Wesley as he charged like a rabid dog.
When Wesley was almost within striking distance, Adrian suddenly dodged sideways. In one fluid motion, his left hand caught Wesley’s wrist, twisting it back violently. The pipe clattered to the ground as Adrian’s right fist connected with Wesley’s face.
James knew Adrian rarely fought these days, with Thomas around to handle things. He only got physical in two situations: boxing at his club, or when he personally wanted to beat someone up.
Wesley had really hit the jackpot.
Just like when they were kids and Adrian had beaten him to a pulp, Wesley’s fate hadn’t changed – he was still destined to be thrashed by Adrian.
When Adrian’s fist connected, Wesley’s entire body froze. The pipe hit the ground as he heard his nose crack, followed by explosive pain throughout his body and brain.
Before he could even scream, Adrian landed an uppercut to his stomach.
With an agonized howl, Wesley’s mouth gaped open as he crumpled to his knees like a rag doll.
But it wasn’t over. Adrian grabbed his hair, yanking him up from the ground. The scalp pain was nothing compared to what came next – three rapid punches to his face, targeting his eyes, nose, and mouth.
THUD! THUD! THUD!

Wesley managed to scream after the first punch, but by the third, he was barely breathing.
In the dead of night, under the car headlights, everyone could see Wesley clearly. His eyes were swollen to mere slits, his forehead covered with over a dozen lumps, and his nose was visibly broken, twisted to one side. His face was a mass of bruises with barely any untouched flesh, blood pouring from his mouth.
From a distance, his entire face looked as if it had been soaked in blood and pulled out.
No one dared speak. The silence outside the Blackwood mansion was terrifying, broken only by Wesley’s barely audible moans and the tiny sound of his front tooth falling to the ground.
Beaten into a daze, Wesley somehow gathered his strength, raised his hand, and struggled to throw a punch at Adrian’s face. Adrian calmly caught his fist and, with calculated cruelty, used Wesley’s own hand to strike his temple.
With a dull thud, Adrian released his grip, and Wesley slid down like a piece of rotten meat – marking this fight as nothing more than a one-sided massacre.
Adrian stared down heavily at Wesley’s crumpled form, raised his foot, and ground his leather shoe forcefully into the broken bridge of his nose.
“…Boss, that’s enough.”
James stepped forward with the first aid kit, cautiously reminding his boss.
He genuinely feared Adrian might kill Wesley – and while they could handle that situation if needed, it wouldn’t look good for the CEO of their corporation. He had to intervene.
He crouched down and checked Wesley’s breathing with his finger. Thankfully, there was still a weak pulse – he wasn’t dead yet, though he certainly looked it.
Adrian remained silent, then lifted his foot only to stomp on Wesley’s face again.
With a wet sound, blood sprayed like a fountain, coating half of Adrian’s expensive shoe red.
James swore he heard several distinct cracks of breaking bones.
The scene was too gruesome for Sophie, who turned and hurried back inside.
Adrian withdrew his foot as Daniel rushed forward with a handkerchief, crouching to clean his boss’s shoe.
Meanwhile, blood covered his right fist, dripping steadily from his fingertips. James couldn’t tell whether it was Adrian’s blood or Wesley’s as he opened the first aid kit and quickly bandaged the hand.
Adrian still wore the gold cufflinks Christine had given him, now stained crimson and reeking of blood. The man lowered his eyes, then spoke with cold detachment:
“Phone.”
“Call Victor.”
James quickly dialed Victor’s number and handed the phone to Adrian once connected.
Holding the phone in his left hand, Adrian’s gaze remained fixed on Wesley’s limp form. His voice was characteristically flat and cold, but with an underlying ruthlessness that sent chills down everyone’s spine.
“Uncle, I need you to come collect some trash again.”
Just twenty minutes earlier, Victor had received word from his bodyguards that they’d found Marcus. He’d immediately rushed to the hospital with his wife and butler for emergency treatment.
Though not life-threatening, Marcus had several broken ribs and leg bones, missing teeth, and his face was so swollen and purple that none of his usual scholarly appearance remained. Victor was sick with worry, discussing options with his wife outside the emergency room, too distracted to even think about his second son Wesley.
And now, Adrian had dropped this bombshell on him.
“You… you… you…”
Victor’s voice was filled with shock and fury. After stammering three times, he suddenly fell silent.
Then came a loud crash as his phone hit the floor, followed by a woman’s terrified scream: “No…no…no! Help! My husband… my husband has fainted! Quick – someone get a doctor!”
He had painstakingly raised his two sons, sending them to elite private schools, providing them with cars, houses, and women to attend to their every need, hoping they would make something of themselves and bring him pride – and in just a few hours, Adrian had destroyed them both.
The shock was too much for Victor – he collapsed on the spot.
Adrian hung up without expression, tossed the phone to James, and headed for the car.
Having just witnessed his boss nearly beat a relative to death, James didn’t dare delay. Only after Adrian was seated did he softly ask: “Boss, shall we go to the office, or somewhere else?”
Adrian removed the cufflinks from his sleeves and tossed them aside, staring at his skinned knuckles as the murderous gloom in his brow grew deeper and darker.
After a few seconds, he spoke:”Find me a woman.”
