Chapter 64: Bored
Christine’s blood rushed to her head at Adrian’s words, her mind exploding with shock and anger.
…A charitable whore?
All her life, she had been diligent and low-key – studying, working, doing research. Never had she imagined being described with such degrading words. The man’s contemptuous tone and icy stare clearly conveyed how worthless and pathetic he thought she was.
But what left her truly speechless was that he wasn’t wrong.
Indeed, how was she any different from a prostitute, coming to someone’s office room and offering her body as a bargaining chip? She was even worse than one.
Tears welled up in Christine’s eyes, a touch of red coloring the corners. Yet she didn’t look away, enduring the pain of his grip while staring steadily at Adrian.
After a few seconds of eye contact, Adrian released her throat, only to grab her chin, holding it firmly. The woman’s delicate face was completely exposed in his grasp. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, casting quivering shadows below, as if guarding the last line of defense of her crumbling heart.
His eyes were filled with mockery and coldness. His words fell like daggers on her heart: “What’s with that expression? Now you feel wronged?”
“Since you know what a whore you are, get the fuck out.”
With that, his fingers tightened and roughly pushed Christine backward. She stumbled from his force, but he had already turned away coldly, walking toward his inner office.
He had only taken a few steps when he felt a gentle tug on his suit sleeve. Her grip was weak, but the gesture was desperate.
Adrian turned back, facing that usually gentle and calm face. Now it was filled with the desperation and agony of someone on the edge of a cliff.
Her eyes were red, brimming with tears that threatened to spill over. She bit her lip, trying to control her trembling pink lips. Though her voice shook, she struggled to hide her sobs as she spoke: “A-Adrian, I… I don’t feel wronged.”
As soon as she finished speaking, her tears fell like pearls.
Christine quickly raised her hand to wipe them away. Struggling to steady herself, she looked up and tried to explain: “But… but I can’t find anyone else. I know my request is outrageous. I know I’m asking too much… but please, I’m begging you, please save—”
Adrian tilted his head to look at her. Her tears rolled down her cheeks as her lips opened and closed – such tiny droplets, yet they fell with crushing weight.
They were just small drops of water, but they pushed the irritation in Adrian’s heart to its breaking point.
“GET THE FUCK OUT!”
The man’s roar cut through the woman’s crying, echoing through the empty office.
Ever since hearing about Christine’s brother’s accident, he’d immediately had Harrison handle it. All because he couldn’t stand seeing this woman hovering around him anymore.
Couldn’t stand seeing her begging him so pathetically.
Couldn’t stand seeing her finding various excuses to appear in his life.
Couldn’t stand how this woman… her smiles, her tears, her broken cries beneath him… had created cracks in his ice-cold heart, filling it with maddening chaos.
Startled by Adrian’s sudden outburst, Christine flinched backward, quickly releasing his sleeve.
The room was still dark, and with his back to her, she couldn’t see his expression. She only knew that his tall, straight figure was on the verge of losing control. In all her memories, though his tone had always been cold and harsh with her, this was the first time she’d heard such obvious rage in his voice.
What’s done was done – she’d angered him, perhaps from biting him in the car last time, or furiously comparing him to Marcus. Either way, Adrian would never help her again.
Her sacrifice of dignity, which she’d thought would mean something, had been nothing but a fantasy.
Indeed, he had already done far more for her than any brother-in-law should: giving her a child and keeping their thunderous secret. Yet here she was again, brazenly begging him to save her brother. To him, she must seem like nothing more than an insane woman – demanding, pushing boundaries, with no sense of shame or morality.
Accepting this reality, Christine wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and silently turned to leave the office.

Before leaving, she took out a small box from her bag and placed it on the coffee table near the office door. It was an elegant dark velvet gift box, exquisitely crafted.
As she put down the box, she ran into Adrian walking out from his inner office. He had removed his suit jacket, looking like he was heading for a shower. The white shirt was wide open, revealing the taut chest and abs beneath. His furrowed brows and tense muscles seemed to radiate his inner turmoil.
Seeing Christine still hadn’t left, he stopped, his dangerous gaze sweeping over her before landing on the gift box she’d placed down.
“This is… um, your birthday present.”
Christine met his eyes briefly before nervously lowering her head, tucking her hair behind her ear as she spoke softly.
After what happened on Labor Day, she hadn’t wanted to give Adrian any more gifts. But then she’d thought about how she was here to ask for his help – something far beyond normal family favors. Gritting her teeth before leaving home, she’d visited the luxury shopping district.
After much consideration, she’d walked into Bulgari and forced herself to buy an ornate 18k gold bookmark with precious stones. Five thousand dollars – more than twenty times what she’d spent on Ethan’s gift last year.
It was probably the most expensive gift she’d ever given in her lifetime. Those young sweet sales assistants, seeing her generous spending and her pregnancy, had assumed she was some happily married wealthy woman. They’d been extremely attentive, gushing about how lucky she was to marry well, saying it must be karma from previous lives, and how her baby would surely be the happiest child in the world. They even asked whether she was having a boy or a girl, saying they could prepare special gifts for the future young master or little princess.
Christine could only respond with a silent awkward smile before hurrying out with the gift.
Seeing no reaction from Adrian, she was about to leave when suddenly he strode over and opened the gift box right in front of her.
They were close again, and Christine watched his long, strong fingers lift the glittering bookmark, its small gems sparkling brilliantly.
Remembering how angry he’d been when she’d given him the same gift as Ethan, she nervously tensed her neck and quickly added:
“This one… he doesn’t have anything the same.”
Her soft, timid voice echoed in the quiet office.
He had given her three chances to leave: First, telling her he was too busy to take her calls; Second, warning her of the consequences and telling her to leave his office; And finally, just now, ordering her to get the fuck out.
Yet here she stood, looking at him sincerely, softly wishing him happy birthday.
No one had ever celebrated his birthday like this before.
Images flashed uncontrollably through Adrian’s mind – Ethan crying for his brother’s help; Grandfather angrily striking his hands with a wooden ruler; Rebecca handing him a schoolbag identical to Ethan’s; his brother’s reverent, admiring gaze; his father patting his shoulder, telling him to act like a proper big brother…
Finally, all images and sounds faded to silence, leaving only the woman’s peach blossom-like eyes, beautiful and gentle, before him.
The restless blood in his veins erupted into an instant inferno.
As Christine turned to leave, unable to bear meeting his gaze any longer, his large hand grabbed her collar from behind, spinning her around to face him.
His eyes grew darker, the stormy sea of anger now deceptively calm, as if brewing an even greater tempest. His thin lips pressed together as he spoke icily: “Did you buy this just to beg for my help?”
“N-no, it’s not… not like that”
Christine trembled in his grip, terrified of setting off this volcano again. She tried to back away but remained firmly in his control, stammering: “This is just a birthday gift. If you don’t like it, you can…”
“Go take a shower.”
He cut off her explanation.
Setting down the bookmark, he released the startled frozen woman and turned toward the inner room. After a few steps, he looked back, his eyes burning with emotions Christine couldn’t decipher, along with a predator’s dangerous gleam that instinctively frightened her:
“You said you’d give me whatever I want.”
“Then from today on, you’ll take everything I give you.”
“…Until I say stop.”
For him, she was nothing but an object of desire.
She just happened to be his brother’s wife… who felt especially good to fuck.
If that’s how it was, he’d keep fucking her until he got bored.
And by then, everything between them, will definitely stop.
