Chapter 77: Instead
Adrian’s kiss was unusually forceful.
He first grazed her lips with his teeth. When Christine parted her lips in pain, he seized the opportunity, capturing her tongue and sucking hard. He wouldn’t let go, alternating between sucking and nibbling, like a starved python coiled around its prey. He gave her no chance to catch her breath.
The room filled with the sounds of their kiss – the wet sounds of tongues and the clicking of teeth. Christine could hardly tell if this was really a kiss or just his way of marking his territory.
Sometimes he sucked so hard that Christine felt like he might devour her tongue whole. Painful whimpers escaped her throat. On instinct, she tried to pull back, her hands pushing weakly against his solid chest.
But Adrian just grabbed her wrists, pinning them down firmly under his large hands. He held her there, not allowing her the slightest movement.
Her resistance only made him kiss her more fiercely, as if he wanted to swallow her whole. His hot, demanding tongue stole every bit of air from her mouth.
Soon, Christine went limp in his arms, her head spinning. She stopped fighting back, letting Adrian hold her against him.
In a brief moment of clarity, her mind filled with confused, unsettling questions: Why was Adrian kissing her like this after coming back?
He’d never been like this… before.
He never used to kiss her, or hold her while sleeping.
Meanwhile, Adrian was lost in unprecedented chaos.
He’d never been knocked down so pathetically in the ring before, especially not by someone like Thomas.
If it had been about anything else, he might have let it go. But no – it had to be about the woman now beneath him.
After leaving the boxing gym, his driver took him to meet the Thai collector couple at a restaurant.
There were many veteran collectors, but few couples who had collected art together for over thirty years. When Adrian entered the waiting room, the elderly couple sat together on the sofa, silver-haired but exceptionally elegant and understated. The husband held his phone, seemingly sharing some artwork with his wife. The gentle lady nestled against him, wearing a smile of perfect understanding.
Somehow, Adrian’s mind wandered to images of Ethan and Christine.
When they saw Adrian arrive, they rose unhurriedly. The husband introduced his wife, and the elderly lady smiled warmly, extending her hand to greet Adrian.
Adrian first met Christine at a family dinner, where Ethan proudly but somewhat shyly introduced her to everyone, announcing, “This is my fiancée.” She had extended her hand then too, smiling at him with happiness and grace: “Hello, I’m Ethan’s girlfriend, Christine.”
If not for the leukaemia, Ethan and Christine… they would have been just like this couple years later.
Dinner was arranged near the National Art Gallery, where the elderly couple had reserved the entire second floor. The exhibition showcased their joint collection from the past thirty years, gathered from around the world, including some priceless treasures. The private booking fee for the National Art Gallery was substantial, indicating the couple’s considerable wealth.
This was the exhibition’s opening day, and after dinner, they invited Adrian to join them for a viewing.
Adrian took the VIP entrance – they had cleared the entire exhibition hall for his visit. Halfway through, he checked his watch.
It was nearly nine o’clock. Christine should have left her office by now.
She was most likely at the hospital with Rebecca, anxiously standing outside the ward, watching the busy nurses and doctors, hoping for news about Ethan’s fever breaking.
Seeing Adrian check his watch twice, James thought his boss must be tired. He stepped forward with a polite smile, quietly mentioning that the exhibition was nearly over and the boss had other arrangements. The elderly couple, being perceptive, graciously bid Adrian farewell, expressing their hopes for future collaboration.
Walking back to the parking lot with Adrian, James found himself genuinely worried. Was Thomas’s shocking morning comment about “your reflexes drop when you’re exhausted yesterday night.” actually… right on target? Had his boss really… ahem, depleted his energy since last night?
But unlike Thomas, James didn’t dare say it directly. Instead, once in the car, he carefully suggested visiting the new high-end spa in SOHO for a massage.
Adrian sat in the back seat, his eyes fixed on the photo Ethan had given him that morning, now lying quietly on the center console.
He picked up the photo, staring at his brother’s gentle smile and pale face. After a moment, he suddenly slammed it face-down back in its place.

Various emotions churned inside him, pushing him to the edge of control.
“Back to the office.”
He pinched between his furrowed brows, spreading his legs as he leaned back in his seat.
He was certain Christine would be gone by now.
The moment Adrian stepped into his office, his irritation peaked.
He didn’t even know what was bothering him – did he want to see her or not? He passed the changing room, his eyes uncontrollably falling on the large bed in the inner room.
In the dim room, the thick blanket outlined a woman’s figure lying on her side, breathing steadily in deep sleep.
Suddenly, all his irritation vanished.
Why hadn’t she left?
He didn’t know.
Maybe she didn’t know about Ethan’s fever yet, or perhaps she was staying an extra day to please him, trying to save her brother.
Either way, she couldn’t possibly be waiting for him.
Lost in his chaotic thoughts, his kisses grew increasingly rough and demanding.
Christine gasped softly between kisses until finally, she couldn’t hold back anymore, whimpering against his tongue: “It hurts…”
Adrian stopped, his fingers gripping her chin, making her look up at him.
Christine was breathless from his kisses, her face flushed with warmth. Having slept for so long, her cheeks were rosy, her eye corners tinged pink like spring blossoms. Her pupils trembled as she looked at him, her gaze irresistibly alluring.
He hadn’t planned on having sex with her today.
But just one kiss had awakened all his desire, and now his cock ached with need.
Adrian held Christine’s gaze intensely. After a moment, his eyes traveled down to her neckline.
His dark, desire-filled gaze felt almost physical. Before she could shrink away, he gripped her collar with one hand, his long finger pulling down forcefully.
The loose nightgown Sophie had given her was easily moved aside, and with a slight pull, her full breasts sprang free.
Her rounded breasts were exposed to the air, gently swaying with her breath. Her delicate skin still bore red marks from the night before.
Like water balloons someone had played with.
Adrian’s finger moved, pinching her pink tip. As she whimpered softly in pain, his hand cupped her full breast. Her body was so soft, her flesh spilling between his fingers like liquid, submissively yielding to his palm.
His eyes returned to hers as he asked in a husky voice: “You know how to squeeze?”
Christine froze, her eyes slowly widening.
…Squeeze?
Did he mean what she thought he meant?
Adrian watched her through narrowed eyes, his voice thick with desire and dangerous like dancing flames: “Or should I fuck you instead?”
She was pregnant and couldn’t handle repeated intimacy. Dr. Wong had been flooding Adrian’s phone with messages these past few days, urging him to show restraint.
He had to remember – Christine was carrying a child.
Christine’s lips trembled. In her struggling thoughts, she wanted to refuse both options, but Adrian’s tone and gaze seemed to warn that if she didn’t choose… he might do both.
She bit her lip, took a breath, and nodded slightly: “… I know.”
