Chapter 79: Get Out
Adrian stared down at Christine intensely.
Her face was still stained with his essence, her body bare beneath him, yet she had answered with complete sincerity: “Yes, I would.”
She had told him that to her, he was no different from any other man in the world.
“Get out.”
In the next moment, Adrian released his grip on her neck and spoke coldly.
His tone was ice-cold, like winter frost cracking.
Before Christine could even react, she watched his tall figure leave the bed in obvious anger. Without looking back, he strode into the bathroom. The wooden door was yanked open and slammed shut with a louder “bang,” followed by the sound of running water.
Was he… angry again?
Christine sat up, staring blankly for several seconds before realizing the uncomfortable stickiness on her face.
She quickly got off the bed and wiped her face clean with tissues. She wanted to wash up at the sink but remembering Adrian’s expression, she didn’t dare approach the bathroom.
She had only spoken honestly, yet it had made Adrian so angry.
Was he disgusted by how cheap she was? That she would sell herself to any man to achieve her goals?
Had she… tainted his bed?
Christine gave a bitter smile.
Earlier, when Adrian called her a charitable whore, she remembered the burning shame that had almost made her blood boil. Now here she was, reflecting on herself because he found her dirty, found her willingness to sell herself disgusting.
But what choice did she have?
After all, if she wanted Oliver’s bail processed quickly, she had to play by Adrian’s rules. She was here asking for help – she couldn’t keep making him angry, and certainly shouldn’t make any requests while he was in a temper.
She didn’t even take time to put on her socks, hastily throwing on her clothes and carrying her shoes as she left.
She thought she would message Adrian later to apologize, to say sorry for offending his eyes.
Leaving the room, Christine found the office warm with both air conditioning and floor heating running. Though it was past 10 PM, she saw Sophie and James Cooper, along with Adrian’s other two assistants, sitting in the break area chatting.
Christine felt awkward. To avoid becoming gossip fodder for Adrian’s assistants, she quickly smoothed her disheveled hair, kept her head down, and tried to leave quickly.
Truth be told, they were there to “gossip” – or rather, out of concern. Sophie, being Sophie, couldn’t let things slide. She’d practically held the other three hostage after hours, dangling three months of free homemade diet meals plus one month room cleaning as bait to keep them in the office past midnight.
Danile was the office gossip queen anyway, so he needed no convincing. James stuck around because he feared his sister might have one of her “moments” in front of the boss and torpedo his career along with hers.
In the end, the free meals and cleanings were really just a bonus for Thomas, who “never cared about the boss’s private affairs.”
That shout earlier was Sophie’s frustrated outburst. Though she feared Adrian, she wanted to help Christine more, so tonight she was going all in, determined to stay and take Christine home.
Hearing Christine emerge, Sophie’s eyes widened in surprise. Before James could stop her, she rushed forward and blurted out: “Miss Christine… why-why are you leaving already? How come it’s so quick today! Didn’t the boss act like a beast-”
James immediately covered his sister’s mouth and started pushing her toward the elevator.
With a straight face, he muttered: “My dear sister Sophie, you know what? Smart kids go to bed early. Come on, time to go home and sleep.”
Sophie: “Hey hey heyy heyy hey hey-”

He shot urgent looks at the others, silently begging someone to take his stupid sister away.
Daniel never dared handle Sophie, so that left only Thomas. In this critical moment, Thomas narrowed his eyes, stepped forward, and grabbed Sophie’s collar from behind, dragging her to the office door like a kitten.
Sophie struggled and complained as she was pulled toward the elevator, out of Christine’s sight.
As soon as Thomas released her, Sophie bared her teeth and lashed out: “What are you doing! Why won’t any of you let me speak! I need to uphold justice!”
Her agitated state of “justice” made Thomas sigh. He pointed to his head and said sarcastically: “Are you stupid or what?”
“Huh?”
Seeing Sophie still didn’t get it, Thomas added: “Your brother has his own plans. Don’t make trouble for him.”
“Huh??”
Sophie’s eyes revealed that she was completely lost: Plans? Trouble?? What was happening??? She felt like she’d just skipped two episodes of a Korean drama and couldn’t follow the plot all of a sudden.
Thomas remained silent as he ushered Sophie into the elevator, and a slight smirk gradually appeared on his face.
“Sophine, you’re clearly forever single. A man’s heart is like a needle in the ocean, can’t you understand?”
“Ha – get lost!”
Before the elevator doors closed, Daniel had already grabbed his things and headed to the inner office to clean.
Christine desperately wanted to leave Adrian’s office, go home for a shower, clear the sticky sense all over her body and call her Mom Patricia for Oliver’s issues. But James seemed to have something to tell her, he kept bringing her water and pulling up chairs, blocking her path.
Only after everyone else had left did James step forward, looking at her and cautiously ask: “Miss Christine… may I ask, did the boss tell you to leave?”
Christine nodded, saying vaguely: “Yes… He seemed angry.”
James looked unsurprised. He explained with a bitter smile: “This morning… Mrs. Rebecca forgot about the boss’s birthday, and he also took a punch from Thomas at the boxing ring. So I think he’s genuinely in a bad mood.”
Rebecca forgot Adrian’s birthday?
Christine was a bit shocked – this wasn’t like Rebecca at all. For Ethan’s birthdays, her mother-in-law always threw extravagant celebrations. Christine remembered how a few years ago, Rebecca had booked an entire floor of a luxury hotel in city center for Ethan’s birthday, covering accommodations and flights for hundreds of guests attended. She’d even reserved the neighboring art gallery for Ethan’s photography exhibition, as one of his birthday gifts.
Christine later learned that the gallery actually belonged to Adrian, and Rebecca had borrowed it for free.
How could someone who cared so much about her younger son forget her eldest’s birthday…
Even Christine, an outsider, had remembered.
“Miss Christine,” James ventured, “forgive my boldness, but did you… do or say something?”Christine couldn’t possibly tell James that Adrian found her dirty, unworthy of his bed – those words were too humiliating to speak. Besides, with Adrian taking a punch today and his strained relationship with Rebecca… she felt helpless to do anything. What good would telling James do?
All she hoped for now was that Adrian would calm down later and remember to help get her brother Oliver out.
Thinking about it now, her answer to Adrian’s question hadn’t been complete.
It wasn’t a simple “Yes, i would” or “No, i wouldn’t.”
If it were just about Oliver being framed for drugs, Christine… mostly probably wouldn’t have offered her body for help. After all, her brother’s life wasn’t in danger.
If their family sold everything they owned, they might manage to get Oliver out.
So it wasn’t true that “if there were any man right now, she would do the same.”
She’d agreed to Adrian’s condition to “take everything he gave herl” only because they’d done it so many times already… what difference would one more time make?
But Ethan… was different.
To save Ethan, yes, she would have done it with any man who could help.
Yet thinking further, there really wasn’t any “other man” in this hypothesis.
Besides Adrian Blackwood, she couldn’t have gone to anyone else, nor would anyone else in this world willing to help her – especially since she’d approached Adrian specifically because of how much he resembled his brother.
So her answer was both right and wrong.
But at this point, trying to explain her “innocence” to Adrian would be meaningless.
James stood watching Christine’s hesitant contemplation, growing increasingly anxious.
He finally understood why his boss had checked his watch twice during the exhibition – he’d been calculating if Christine would still be here.
He’d wanted to return early to see her.
But if that was true, why had his boss inexplicably sent her away now?
A man’s heart truly was unfathomable.
James knew little about love – Sophie was right, all three assistants were workaholics and completely single. But right now, he had an urgent feeling: he absolutely couldn’t let Christine leave like this.
Otherwise, for the next week, month… maybe even year, his entire career would face Adrian’s face darker than a thundercloud.
He had to make Christine stay.
“Miss Christine, before you go, could you… help me with something?”
