The Crown's Fire - Chapter 144
Chapter 144: Flaming Sword
Kingdom of Helion
Marla frowned as she watched Devon drain the life essence of the rest of the fairies they had captured and detained in the dungeon. As days passed, the demon king grew weary under the looming threat of the King of Ebodia.
“Is he truly that powerful now?” Marla dared to ask, her voice tinged with concern as she witnessed the fairies turning to stone after Devon’s sinister ritual.
“Yes, so we must remain vigilant. He will come for me,” Devon grunted, his expression dark and foreboding. Emerging from the dungeon, they were met by panting royal guards who urgently delivered unsettling news.
“He’s here. He breached the barrier and is advancing through the castle hallways, My Lord!” they reported, their fear palpable.
A predatory glint flickered in Devon’s eyes as it turned all black he issued his command in a voice dripping with menace. “All of you, kill the intruder.”
Marla knew that Devon’s orders meant that anyone bearing his mark would be compelled to attack Ezekiel without hesitation.
Sibil approached them, bowing down before Devon. “My Lord,” he intoned respectfully. Devon’s jaw clenched tightly as he issued his command. “I will enhance your power, you imbecile. Don’t disappoint me this time and bring me Ezekiel’s head!”
Marla observed as Devon’s dark mist enveloped Sibil, coalescing into a new appendage on his shoulder. “Thank you, My Lord! I will not let you down!” Sibil assured before hurrying off in the direction of Ezekiel.
Marla couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease settling in the pit of her stomach. She bit her lip anxiously as she trailed behind Devon. She wanted to question their readiness to face Ezekiel, but Devon’s confidence brooked no doubt.
Gritting his teeth, Devon scoffed, “He believes he can master the dragon’s power in such a short time? How arrogant!” With grim determination, he strode towards his throne, and Marla followed, her heart heavy with apprehension for the impending showdown.
As Ezekiel transformed into his majestic dragon form, he unleashed a torrent of hallucinogenic gas upon the humans attacking him. He refused to shed innocent blood in this fight; his sole focus was on bringing Devon to justice.
His dragon Khal roared, unleashing torrents of blue flames upon Devon’s dark witches and warlocks. Ezekiel skillfully countered their spells with his own knowledge of magic. He had meticulously planned every aspect of this attack, and he was determined to see it through to the end.
As he faced the familiar warlock who remained attacking him, Ezekiel reverted back to his human form. “We meet again,” he taunted, his gaze fixed on Sibil’s newly formed right arm. “I see you’ve grown a new limb.”
“You, I will kill you!” Sibil barked, forming a crackling ball of thunder in his hand.
With a swift movement, Sibil hurled the crackling ball of thunder towards Ezekiel, who sidestepped just in time. He retaliated with a blast of fire from his hand, forcing Sibil to dodge and weave through the flames.
Their battle raged on, each exchanging spells and strikes, but Ezekiel’s mastery of both magic and combat gave him the upper hand. With calculated precision, he dodged Sibil’s attacks and countered with his own, wearing down the warlock’s defenses.
As Sibil launched another assault, Ezekiel tapped into his dragon power. A surge of energy coursed through him, transforming his eyes into blazing orbs of golden light. With a mighty roar, he unleashed a torrent of dragon flames, engulfing Sibil in a blaze of searing heat.
The warlock screamed as the flames consumed him, his form flickering and fading until he vanished into nothingness, leaving only a trail of smoke in his wake. Ezekiel stood amidst the dissipating flames, his chest heaving with exertion but a victorious gleam in his eyes.
With Sibil defeated, Ezekiel turned his attention back to the direction where the scent of Devon lingered, determination burning bright within him. It was time to put an end to the demon king’s reign of terror once and for all.
As Ezekiel strode forward, the air crackled with gloom. He could sense Devon’s presence growing stronger with each step.
With a deep breath, Ezekiel focused his energy, calling upon the power of his dragon form. He felt the familiar surge of strength coursing through him, empowering him for the battle ahead. [Khal, let’s finish it today. I apologize in advance for straining you too much today.] Ezekiel humored.
[Don’t worry. I’m ready… We have to free our twin flame from this demon.] Khal remarked.
As he approached the throne room where Devon awaited, Ezekiel’s resolve hardened. He would not falter, he would not hesitate. This was the moment he had been preparing for, the moment to rid the kingdom of Devon’s tyranny.
Ezekiel stepped into the throne room, his gaze locked on Devon’s sinister figure seated upon the throne.
As the two clashed, the air crackled with the intensity of their battle. Devon, fueled by dark magic, unleashed a barrage of spells and curses, each one aimed at bringing Ezekiel to his knees. But Ezekiel, empowered by the ancient dragon within him, met every attack head-on, sparks flying with each strike.
Ezekiel’s movements were swift and precise, his every strike calculated to find weakness in Devon’s defenses. But Devon, his eyes blazing with fury, matched him blow for blow, his dark magic pulsing with malevolent energy.
As the battle between Devon and Ezekiel reached its climax, Ezekiel tapped into the ancient power of the dragon within him, summoning forth a swirling vortex of golden flames. With a focused concentration, he molded the flames into the shape of a mighty sword, its blade gleaming with an otherworldly light.
With this fiery weapon in hand, Ezekiel charged forward cutting through Devon’s dark magic like a hot knife through butter, its radiant glow casting an intense light throughout the throne room.
“You, how did you manage to harness and control this great power in such a sho-” Devon’s words were cut short as Ezekiel’s relentless assault overwhelmed him. Struggling to defend himself against the blazing fury of the dragon king, Devon found himself unable to withstand the onslaught. With each swing of the fiery sword, Ezekiel carved through Devon’s defenses, inching closer and closer to victory.
