The Crown's Fire - Chapter 180
Chapter 180: Dragon Bond
Katelina released another long sigh after hearing Levi’s explanation to her.
“It looks like everything is bound to happen, even the dragon is now choosing someone from Ebodia as its dragonrider,” Asura muttered as she fed Ember and Onyx. She had a pout as she mumbled, “I can’t believe none of you chose me. I’m the one feeding all of you.”
Levi chuckled. “There are still eight unhatched eggs, Lady Asura. Who knows? One of them might choose you?”
Asura’s face scrunched up as she scoffed. “When will they even hatch? Priest Saul mentioned the possibility of them taking a long time to hatch if not now. Will I still be alive by then?”
Katelina remained quiet, her mind in chaos. She released a deep sigh and asked Levi, “Did you brief Lady Cora on what to do about Aurum? We’re not ready for the dragon’s existence to spread since we haven’t formed the dragon bond yet. They are not yet safe from being stolen.”
Levi nodded. “Yes, sister. I told her about the importance of keeping Aurum’s presence a secret for now. She understands the gravity of the situation and will be cautious.”
Katelina gave a small nod, her expression softening slightly. “Good. The last thing we need is for word to spread before we’re ready to protect them properly. We’ll need to work on those dragon bonds quickly. The sooner we can form them, the safer our dragons will be.”
“I should see Lady Cora,” Katelina murmured. She stood up from her seat but ended up sitting back on her chair again.
“What’s wrong?” Asura asked. Katelina only shrugged. Her pride was getting the best of her not to mention that she was still embarrassed. She said she needed space so maybe she would just wait till the Global Summit. She should try doing the dragon bond first and see if it works or not.
Turning at her little brother, she asked, “Levi, do you think you’re ready to perform the dragon bond?”
“I am, Sister. I honestly want to talk to you about it. I want to perform the dragon bond between Ember and me so that way we can communicate through the bond without looking into her eyes,” Levi excitedly said.
She then looked at Onyx with a smile and said, “Do you want to try Onyx?”
The dragon simply flapped its wings excitedly.
“He’s looking forward to it, Sis,” Levi informed. Katelina released a sigh before she sat in front of Onyx with crossed legs.
“Close your eyes, Onyx,” she instructed, and when he did, she started chanting the correct spells. Right then, a black glowing light encircled around her and Onyx.
As Katelina chanted, the light grew more intense, enveloping both her and Onyx in a radiant aura. She felt a surge of energy flowing between them, a connection that went beyond the physical. Her heart raced as she continued the incantation, focusing on the bond they were about to form.
Onyx remained still, his eyes closed, as the black light wrapped around him like a protective cocoon. Katelina could sense his excitement and anticipation, mirroring her own. The spell was complex, requiring precise concentration and unwavering determination. She could feel the ancient magic coursing through her veins, intertwining with Onyx’s essence.
As the final words of the incantation left her lips, the light intensified one last time before fading away. Katelina opened her eyes, meeting Onyx’s gaze. There was a moment of silence, a heartbeat suspended in time, and then she felt it—a deep, unbreakable connection with her dragon.
“Onyx,” she whispered, testing the bond. She could feel his thoughts and emotions as if they were her own.
Onyx let out a joyful roar, flapping his wings enthusiastically. [We did it!] he communicated through their bond, his voice clear and vibrant in her mind.
Katelina smiled, relief washing over her. “We did it,” she echoed, feeling a profound sense of accomplishment.
Levi clapped his hands in delight. “That’s amazing, Sister! Now I want to try it with Ember.”
Katelina nodded, feeling more confident. “Go ahead, Levi. You’ll do great.”
Levi sat down in front of Ember, mimicking Katelina’s position. He took a deep breath and began the incantation, this time a silver light enveloping him and Ember. Katelina watched with pride as her brother performed the spell, knowing that their dragons would be safer and more connected through these bonds.
As Levi completed the incantation, the light faded, and he opened his eyes, meeting Ember’s gaze. A wide smile spread across his face. “I can feel her thoughts, Sister! It’s incredible!”
Katelina nodded, her heart swelling with pride and relief. “Now we just need to help the others form their bonds.”
Asura watched the scene unfold with a mix of awe and envy. “Maybe one day, I’ll get my chance,” she said softly, a hint of hope in her voice.
Katelina nodded in agreement, hoping that Asura would be chosen as a dragonrider as well, seeing how dedicated she seemed to be.
There was a terse silence and Katelina checked some spells and hummed, “Maybe this will be a success. I should try to find out.”
She turned to Asura and instructed, “Asura, please call on Luis. I’ll try to successfully revise the spell and form the dragon bond this time, acting merely as a third party between him and Jade.”

“How about Lady Cora? Should I also call her?”
“No, just Luis for now. We’re not even sure if I can create the dragon bond between them. I’m not confident…” Katelina explained. She heaved a deep sigh and murmured, “Also, I believe Lady Cora still needs time. I clearly see the hesitation in her. The bond will not be successful if both parties do not fully surrender and trust each other.”
“I will get Luis then,” Asura said, quickly turning to leave Katelina and Levi.
[Something is wrong…] Onyx suddenly communicated through the bond.
Katelina quickly looked at Onyx, who was staring at her. “What is it?”
[The glow in you… There’s another bond in you. A flickering light of gold. This… it’s also a dragon bond, but dormant,] Onyx informed.
