The Crown's Fire - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Set Her Eyes of Him
At Ebodia Encampment
“Something’s weird,” Ezme grunted as she went out of the tent. She then turned around and scoffed, “Since when did my brother get this calm?”
It was bizarre. She just had a serious talk with her brother Nikolai, the King of their kingdom Valcrez, and she couldn’t believe that he would just stay still even when a dragon was roaming around.
“So what if the dragon attacked our enemies? Who knows what it will attack next?” she annoyingly muttered. “For all we know, it could be here soon burning the hell out of us!”
She was still busy fuming when she passed someone by. Looking up, her sour face quickly lit up upon realizing that it was Atlas that passed her by.
“Atlas!” Ezme called out to him with her sweetest smile while quickly approaching him.
“Your Highness,” the man gave her a curt bow after he turned to her.
“I told you to just call me Ezme and drop the formalities when we’re alone, right?” Ezme snorted.
“I can’t,” Atlas grunted with a wry smile. “You are the Princess of Valcrez, our precious allied kingdom through a marriage alliance.”
Ezme raised her brows. “Why are you mocking us when it’s your kingdom who asked for these alliances, huh?!” she scoffed. For some reason, this Great Constable of Ebodia had a knack for always ruining her mood.
“But your kingdom and Cordon are all the same… demanding marriages to secure the alliance,” Atlas lamented. “Our Princess Mineah went to your vampire brother, and soon, our Princess Xenia would be going to your friend the Werewolf King of Cordon. Disgusting!”
Ezme did her best to remain calm. It wasn’t the first time he did something like this too. Throughout her stay in the encampment for a few weeks, she had come to know a lot about Atlas. After all, it was him who comforted her that night when she almost lost her head to Prince Ezekiel.
At first, she had set her eyes on the Prince since he was handsome and his blood smelled nice. But unfortunately, Prince Ezekiel was very scary. In fact, during her first attempt to sneak inside his tent to seduce him in his dream, Ezekiel almost managed to decapitate her for entering his personal space.
From there, Atlas came to rescue her by making up an excuse for her, saying that she wasn’t in her right mind because she was drunk. He then quickly pulled her out of the Prince’s tent without a word.
Back in the present, Ezme ignored Atlas’s grumpy mood before simply hugging his arm. As usual, the man just let her do as she pleased, and that was what she liked about him. He had a great tolerance for her presence even though he hated their kind. And this was coming from a human who thought all creatures aside from humans were monsters.
“So are you going to join us for dinner?” she asked.
“Yes,” Atlas plainly answered. “Queen Dana requested my presence as the person in charge, so I’ll be there.”
“Don’t you find it weird then?” she snorted. “We’re offering help to find your precious prince and your new seer, but your Queen is strongly opposed to accepting.”
“Maybe our Queen is simply confident enough that she can handle this without too many people getting involved,” he reasoned. “She was right in that it’s a personal family affair anyway. And besides, we don’t want to cause panic and alarm in the camp. That’s why this is confidential.”
“What about the dragon then?” Ezme insisted. “We should kill it first before it can do any damage!”
In truth, her blood was boiling because the damn golden dragon was the same one that killed their father. She was still confused as to why her brother Nikolai was also refusing to make a move, but that wouldn’t stop her from trying something.
“When did it even manage to successfully merge its soul with someone?!” she ranted with Atlas remaining quiet. She then stopped walking and let his arm go, turning to face him with a raised brow, “Aren’t you also worried about the prince? I thought you and Prince Ezekiel are almost like brothers?”
“We are, and I know that he’ll come back soon,” he answered with a frown. “Our new fated Seer is with him, after all.”
“If you say so,” Ezme simply shrugged with a sigh. “Let’s just go and join the others for dinner.”
Shaking her head, she was about to pull Atlas with her when he pulled his hand away from her.
“Princess, please stop doing this already…” he insisted.
Ezme’s lips stretched wide at the sight of him. She had longed to see him confront her with her actions. It had been taking too long, but he was finally taking action.
“I believe we’re not acquainted enough for you to be this close with me. I tried to tolerate you for some time since I didn’t want to offend you for being the Princess of the kingdom who had been supporting us in this war, but that doesn’t mean you have the right to do as you please with bugging people,” Atlas insisted with a frown. “You’re the Minister of War in Valcrez, so please act as your station and focus on your assigned duty in this camp.”
“Am I not focused enough on the task at hand? I’m even extending support to other tasks, but your camp is refusing it,” she pointed out with a naive blink before flashing him a mischievous smile. “Is it wrong for me to mix business with pleasure then? Also, I think the two of us get along well, you know?!”
Atlas answered her with a restless sigh, prompting her to continue. “I’m brokenhearted because King Darius will soon be with your Princess Xenia. You’re also brokenhearted because your Princess Xenia will soon marry King Darius. There’s nothing the two of us can do, so why don’t we both mend our broken hearts together?!”

It was true anyway. Darius, the werewolf king of Cordon, was her first love. Unfortunately, he only saw her as his sister. She then also found out that Atlas had an unrequited love with their eldest Princess of Ebodia.
“You’re truly crazy!” Atlas annoyingly muttered.
Ezme chuckled, unaffected by his grumpiness. “I’m crazy. Some even call me a bjtch,” Ezme chortled as she quickly grabbed and hugged Atlas’s arm, pulling him along with her to the tent to join the others for dinner. “But don’t worry… I’ll tone it down for you…”
She had already set her eyes on him, so she planned to do everything to get him…
