The Crown's Fire - Chapter 56
Chapter 56: You’re Not Ezekiel
Vulcan growled at her, and it was about to attack when she cast a strong spell against it.
[I’ll kill you!] he roared.
Despite the threats, Tarah didn’t even bat an eye against the dragon before her. “Try it if you can. I’ll make sure that you’ll be expelled from the prince’s body soon enough,” she wryly stated. “You’ve been lingering in this world far too long now…”
There was no hope for this dragon’s soul. It was bound to go to hell. Vulcan was too blinded by his love for Hana that he vowed to wipe every last dragonrider out of this world. Its soul was eaten completely by the darkness, and it was bound to destroy the world unless its soul was banished.
Like what she already knew, Vulcan led all the dragons against their dragonriders by brainwashing all of its kind to think that they were superior to anyone else. That they should retaliate and eliminate anyone stopping them from doing what they wanted.
That was when the dragons started wreaking havoc on Earth and how all the kingdoms fought in unity against their kind, killing the dragon’s physical bodies. But apparently, no one knew that their souls had remained and lingered, looking for the best hosts to merge with.
Thankfully, Queen Dana managed to solve that problem and sealed all the dragon souls in the Forbidden Forest.
Tarah simply sighed as she ignored Vulcan’s continuous curses at her. Instead, she just focused on practicing her spells, most especially the transportation spell. The day was then quickly replaced by the night, and she promptly cast a spell on Vulcan so that it would just sleep and rest for the night.
Now staring at the sleeping dragon, she let out a heavy sigh at the things to come. With nothing left to do, she was about to prepare herself to rest when she saw a white portal open up before them, and she smiled upon seeing that Queen Mineah had finally arrived.
“Your Majesty,” she greeted Queen Mineah with a curt bow.
The Queen answered her with a nod of acknowledgment before then looking at Vulcan. “Are you with him while he still roamed the sky?” Mineah directly asked her.
“Yes,” Tarah confirmed. “I was riding on his back, Your Majesty.”
“Please just call me Mineah whenever we’re just alone or with my family,” Mineah said with a smile, and Tarah simply nodded, returning her smile with her own. “I guess you really need to stick with him, especially whenever he goes out to ensure that he’s tame enough to not attack innocent lives.”
With a sigh, Mineah quickly released the glowing bluebell flower inside her body in preparation for what was to come.
“Mother failed to fuse his spirit with him after several attempts, and you told her that I would be the only one who’d be able to do it,” Mineah stated as she stared at her brother’s spirit in her palm. She then let out another sigh as she took a glance at the sleeping dragon. “I just hope you’re right.”
“I saw it in my dream the other day, Your Majesty,” Tarah reassured her. “You’ll be able to succeed because the divine powers inside your body are much stronger now compared to Queen Dana’s.”
“We should hurry then, Tarah…”
Sharing a nod between the two of them, Mineah quickly positioned herself in front of the dragon and started to chant the spell that would allow her to enter Ezekiel’s subconscious mind. In tandem, the glowing bluebell flower in her hands floated upward and positioned itself in between Mineah and the sleeping dragon.
Focusing on the spell, she clenched her fist as soon as she felt a strong impact inside her body while the spell to merge her brother’s spirit back into his body happened.
A few moments later into her task, Mineah suddenly heard a menacing chuckle inside her head.
“Another attempt to bring back his spirit… How foolish…”
Mineah gulped as she quickly opened her eyes only to see that her surroundings had already changed. Everything was pitch black, and a deadly mist of death and decay seemingly surrounded her at every turn.
“Vulcan…” she whispered with gritted teeth. Was she inside Ezekiel’s subconscious mind now?
Her thoughts were still running when a silhouette of a man appeared and slowly approached her. Mineah narrowed her eyes and gasped, “Ezekiel?”
To her dismay, Ezekiel menacingly laughed.
“You’re not Ezekiel,” she declared with a frown.
This wasn’t her brother. It might be wearing her brother’s face, but the aura emanating from him was very different from what she knew.
“I am Vulcan, the most powerful creature on earth,” Vulcan confidently introduced himself. “Your brother is the perfect vessel for my soul. And soon, I will completely take over his body and he’ll be gone for good.”
Mineah clenched her jaw. Instead of answering, she focused on casting another spell. Channeling a powerful spell, she summoned the bluebell flower inside Ezekiel’s subconscious mind.
“Brother, come back to us, please. I managed to find your spirit, so please take it back and don’t let Vulcan expel it from your body,” she voiced out as soon as she finished chanting. “Don’t let this dragon have its way with you, Brother. Please…”

Despite everything they’ve worked for, the spell wouldn’t work if his brother wouldn’t show himself and claim his spirit. Predictably, Vulcan tried to come near her and Ezekiel’s spirit, but he was unable to enter the barrier now surrounding her. Only her brother’s soul would be able to approach her, and hopefully, he’ll do so shortly.
“You bjtch!” Vulcan raged. “I’ll destroy your brother’s spirit this time and kill you along with his soul!”
Mineah closed her eyes as she tried to locate her brother’s soul. She assumed that it was getting weaker with every passing day fighting off Vulcan inside his own body, which meant it would probably take some time before he appeared.
Without his spirit helping him, her brother’s divine powers would be weak. It was why Vulcan was confident enough to state that he’d overcome and control his body soon.
However, she wouldn’t just let that bastard dragon have her brother’s body!
“Brother, where are you?! Please come to me,” she pleaded. “Do you remember your vow back when you found out that I’m cursed? You wanted to protect me… I remember how you cried a lot like a baby that day, Big Brother.”
She dug deep into her soul as she sobbed, “You were saying that you wanted to become powerful so that you can protect and not let anything happen to me, our family, and our people. Tarah said that your desire to become powerful was what awakened Vulcan’s dormant soul inside your body…”
Mineah started crying as she let her emotions take over her. “Brother, please come back to us. Don’t let me take all the guilt of losing you. It was partially my fault that Vulcan became active inside you in the first place, so please don’t give me that burden and come back. Don’t break your promise… Become powerful and take over the dragon to save us all.”
“Don’t let this bastard dragon control you, Brother…” she desperately cried out. “Control him instead. We know you can do it, so please, Brother…”
