The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1009
Chapter 1009: Bravos’ evolution (I) Chapter 1009: Bravos’ evolution (I) Cain and Duke Rellin were flying toward the port city of Bravos, and they were not alone.
Accompanying them was Captain Asidius, the same man who had received them when they first arrived in the Trinity Saint Realm.
The middle-aged man with the massive shield on his back glanced at Cain from time to time, his eyes carrying a solemn light.
As for Councilman Irion, he had remained in the Saint Trinity Realm.
The battlefield was no place for an old man who was not even a Saint Master, and he still had a lot of duties to attend to in the capital, as war consumed resources at a simply ridiculous level. Cain felt the glance of the Royal Guard captain and only smiled.
He knew that part of the reason Councilman Irion had arranged for an escort was to ensure they wouldn’t run away and hide during the invasion. Of course, if Cain wanted to run, there was nothing Asdius could do to stop him, but he would not do something so foolish.
While Cain was confident in his ability to kill the captain of the Royal Guard, he knew it would make him an irreconcilable enemy of the Trinity Kingdom.
Besides, he wanted to be on the battlefield; it was the only place where he could absorb the souls of Sky Masters and Sky Lords without needing to hide.
As they neared their destination, Captain Asidius finally broke his silence and spoke in a solemn voice.
“Lord Cain, I would like to ask some questions that might involve your secrets.
I will understand if you wish to remain silent and not answer.” Cain was a little surprised by the captain’s words.
After a moment of contemplation, he nodded.
It wouldn’t hurt to hear the man out, so he accepted. “The way you obtained the information about the attack of the Dark Brotherhood on Bravos, does it have to do with some unique ability related to the soul?” The solemnity in Asidius’s voice only grew stronger as he focused on the young man full of mysteries.
Cain stared at the Royal Guard and focused on the man for a few seconds before speaking.
“I would like to know the reason you ask such a question before giving you a proper answer.” Captain Asidius immediately nodded, accepting the young man’s request before speaking in a voice full of frustration.
“We completely decimated the Dark Brotherhood during their attack on Bravos and captured many of their prominent members alive.
The Royal Guard has done our best to extract useful information from their minds, but they are powerful and have all sorts of mental guards that prevent the extraction of memories.” Cain immediately knew the goal behind the captain’s inquiry and a tremendous sense of desire burst from his soul.
However, his willpower was strong enough to hide it, and he did not show anything on his face.
“Our intelligence masters will keep trying to extract the information, but it is more likely that they will kill the men before obtaining anything of value.
If you have an ability that can help us obtain their memories, the Royal Guard would greatly appreciate and reward you accordingly.” Asidius spoke in a respectful tone, hoping to entice Cain with the rewards.
There was no way the captain of the Royal Guard could know that he was offering a banquet to the young man, who could barely contain his desire.
Of course, Cain would not reveal his desire, keeping it well hidden and showing a complicated expression as if the decision carried a profound dilemma before finally nodding.
“I can use my Innate Ability, the Eye of Gluttony, to consume the Spirit Force of an enemy and, in the process, obtain some of their memories.” Normally, an ability like the Eye of Gluttony would have disturbed someone as upright as Captain Asidius, but the middle-aged man could not be more thrilled right now.
There was no countermeasure for Cain’s ability, and he would have no problem obtaining the knowledge locked inside the members of the Dark Brotherhood, which would help them greatly in facing the incoming invasion.
“Great!
When we arrive at Bravos, please accompany me to meet Lord Commander Sarukan.” A beaming smile appeared on Asidius’s face.
Knowing the enemy’s power would make their defense much more effective, so he was thrilled.
Cain smiled and softly nodded to the man.
He seemed happy about being able to help, yet deep inside, his heart was bursting with a sense of hunger as he imagined all the people whose energy pools he could devour.
Not only would their Spirit Force help him in the crystallization of his energy pool, but if he was careful, he might also obtain new Innate Abilities!

After twenty more minutes of flying, the port city of Bravos finally appeared in Cain’s vision, and a sense of awe soon arose.
He had seen pictures and read descriptions of the port city, but what appeared before his eyes was something completely different.
Bravos, the sprawling port city nestled along the edge of the Sea of Wonders, had transformed into an impregnable bastion that extended for dozens of kilometers, way beyond its previous range.
Its previous fortifications were impressive, but they were now monumental, evoking a sense of awe in Cain and Duke Rellin.
The city was encircled by colossal walls, towering higher than ever before, crafted from unyielding obsidian stone that shimmered darkly under the sun.
These walls were reinforced with intricate magical formations, pulsating with a faint glow, indicating the latent power ready to be unleashed upon any intruder.
Hundreds of thousands marched through the streets as they continued the fortification, with many flying across the sky at all times, keeping everything in order and advancing.
Massive magic towers had been erected at strategic intervals along the walls.
These towers were not mere defensive structures but arcane fortresses brimming with potent enchantments.
They hummed with energy, their spires crackling with elemental magic-fire, ice, lightning, and wind.
