Cain grabbed the shadow cocoon that held Astor with his dragon claw before opening his maw and swallowing the rest.

He had no use for the women so they could serve as fuel, granting him new Sky Master Innate Abilities.

Hovering above the devastated battlefield, Cain ensured that Scarlet Reaper continued to course through his colossal dragon body.

The process was nearing completion, and when he felt the final spark of energy fade, Cain shifted back into his dragonborn form.

His enormous draconic body compressed, reshaping into a humanoid figure.

Dark shadows curled around him, cloaking his form as he vanished into the distance, flying low and staying out of sight.

Cain’s mind raced as he recalled the geography of the South Coast.

He needed a secure place to hide and recover-somewhere remote and concealed.

After several minutes of flight, he found what he had been searching for: an isolated underground cave, hidden deep within the rocky terrain.

It was far from any settlements and buried deep enough to prevent detection.

Once inside the cave, Cain moved swiftly, using his powers to cover the entrance and walls with thick shadows, ensuring that no one could trace his location.

He also unleashed the full might of his soul force, to reinforce the cloaking power of the shadows.

Only after having a safe haven did Cain relax and stop suppressing the backlash.

Exhaustion hit him all at once.

The moment the last of the shadows settled into place, the backlash from the Phoenix Seed struck him like a hammer.  Cain’s dragonborn body convulsed as the flames that had empowered him now burned from within, draining his vitality and strength in a violent, agonizing reaction.

It was extremely painful and dangerous, but luckily the life force of the four Sky Masters would help him overcome it.
