The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1222
Chapter 1222: First casualties (II) Chapter 1222: First casualties (II) “Watch out!” Cain’s roar echoed through the cavernous hall, urgency lacing his voice.
The sheer power emanating from the vines was terrifying, and they could withstand their most powerful attacks with little damage.
Reacting swiftly, the massive dragons shifted into their dragonborn forms.
Their bodies shrank and condensed, becoming more agile-something they desperately needed as the sea of vines closed in from every direction.
Scales glinted in the dim light as they maneuvered with newfound speed, dodging the grasping vines by mere inches.
Cain twisted mid-air, narrowly avoiding a tendril that lashed out like a whip, aiming for his eye.
His gaze sharpened as he channeled his energy into his fist.
“Earthquake Blow!” The scarlet dragon delivered a point-blank strike to the vine.
The impact resonated through his arm, and he grimaced-it felt like striking the hardest metal in the world.
The vine barely recoiled, but it gave him just enough time to pull back.
Beyond its hardness, something else caught his attention.
Activating his Eye of Gluttony, Cain glimpsed the intricate, nanometric runes embedded within the vines.
They shimmered faintly, pulsating in a rhythm that felt almost alive.
He immediately recognized the energy signature-the Oniric Truth.
Its purity was astounding, rivaling the levels only beings like Grand Elder Bahamut could contain.
‘How did something like this come to be here?’ Cain’s mind raced as he weaved through the onslaught.
‘If these vines were guardians, why have the Flesh Constructs at all?
And living beneath the ground only to rise now-no one would design their own fortress to destroy itself whenever intruders approach.’ His thoughts were cut short by a piercing scream filled with unimaginable agony.
“AHHHHHHH!” The sound sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
Cain whipped his head around to see one of the angels ensnared.
A vine had wrapped around the man’s leg, its thorny surface digging into his flesh.
The angel’s face twisted in pain that seemed beyond mortal comprehension as the vine burrowed beneath his skin, rippling up his leg and into his torso.
“Help me!” the angel screamed, his wings flailing uselessly as the invasive tendril tore through him from the inside out.
The horrifying sight ended abruptly as the vine ripped him apart, pieces scattering in a spray of ethereal blood.
A heavy silence fell, broken only by the hiss and slither of the approaching vines.
Hearts pounded, and breaths quickened.
Fear gnawed at the edges of their resolve.
“To the stairs!
NOW!” Cain’s voice cut through the paralysis, commanding and absolute.
They had no idea what awaited them beyond the staircase, but facing the unknown was preferable to certain death here.

The Ancient Dragons didn’t hesitate.
They surged forward, pushing their bodies to the limits.
Terror lent speed to their wings and feet as they dodged and darted past the writhing tendrils.
Members of the Sun Church and Moon Cult followed suit, moving as one in the face of impending doom.
The saintesses relied on their precognition, their eyes glowing as they anticipated the vines’ movements, slipping through gaps.
The swords lacked the power to sever the vines but could at least push them back.
The angels unleashed bursts of overwhelming heat and force, their white flames searing the air as they forged a path.
Helios led them, his eyes fixed on the staircase.
But the vines were relentless.
Another scream tore through the chaos.
This time, it was a young angelic woman.
A vine had snagged her ankle, its thorns piercing through armor and flesh alike.
“Save me!” she cried out, desperation and terror twisting her features.
She reached out toward Helios, eyes pleading as the vine began its gruesome journey up her leg, her veins bulging as dark energy spread.
Helios glanced back, his expression unreadable.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
Then, without a word, he turned away, descending swiftly toward the staircase.
The other angels followed, none slowing to assist their comrade.
“No!
Please!” Her voice choked off as the vine claimed her, her body convulsing before bursting apart in a sickening display.
It was no coincidence that two angels had fallen while the saintesses and dragons made it up.
Other than Helios, the upgrades the angels received over the past two years had been average at best.
To say those two perished due to Helios’ greed would not have been an overstatement, but since none of the angels spoke up, there was no reason for Cain or Meylin to intervene.
“Keep going!” Cain shouted, urging the others forward.
The group hurtled toward the entrance to the second level.
The air grew thick with tension, every second stretching into an eternity.
Vines snapped and whipped around them, the scent of decay and iron filling their nostrils.
The saintesses formed a protective formation, their collective energies intertwining to create a shimmering barrier.
“Stay close!” Meylin commanded, her violet hair flowing behind her as she deftly avoided a lashing vine.
Eldrick and Zalgrim flanked Cain, their eyes focused and determined as they neared the staircase-a grand archway carved from obsidian, inlaid with ancient symbols that pulsed faintly.
The vines thickened around the entrance as if sensing their intent.
“Now!” Cain roared.
The dragons unleashed a coordinated attack.
Flames, lightning, and earth energy converged into a singular blast, pushing through the mass of vines blocking their path.
The saintesses channeled their moonforce, amplifying the attack’s potency.
The angels, driven by self-preservation, added their own divine flames to the mix.
An explosion rocked the hall as their combined forces blasted a hole through the vine wall.
Without wasting a moment, they dove into the archway and rushed down the spiral staircase.
The air changed instantly.
The oppressive presence of the vines faded, replaced by an eerie stillness.
Their ragged breaths and the echo of footsteps against polished stone were the only sounds.
They reached the bottom of the staircase, and awe and unease washed over them as they stepped into the new chamber.
The second level of the Demon King’s Castle unfolded before their eyes-a vast, labyrinthine maze stretching into infinity.
Massive, ornate mirrors lined the walls, floor, and ceiling.
Their surfaces were polished to gleaming perfection, reflecting the light in a dazzling display.
The mirrors created the illusion of endless corridors and passages, a kaleidoscope of shifting images that disoriented the senses.
