Chapter 1236: Into the Blood and Hunger Trials Chapter 1236: Into the Blood and Hunger Trials Of course, while Cain was the first to figure it out, the rest were all pretty smart and talented, so flashes of enlightenment didn’t take long to appear in their eyes.

“This mark is allowing our perception to glimpse into principles that rule existence in the Crimson World.

We can see the Oniric Truths, just like if we were Void Eclipse life forms!” Meylin exclaimed, astonishment evident in her voice.

That ability was beyond amazing, even for someone with her background and power.  Others murmured in agreement, still trying to process the sudden enhancement of their senses.

Eldrick touched his forehead, feeling the warmth of the mark, awe, and thrill clear on his face.

It wasn’t just the young saintess and the obsidian dragon who were amazed; everyone else was utterly baffled by such power.  Understanding and harnessing the power of the Oniric Truths was one reason there was such a massive chasm in battle power between Stellar Abyss Legends and Void Eclipse powerhouses, yet now they had obtained that glimpse.

However, they couldn’t comprehend just how powerful the one in control of the Blood and Hunger Trials must be to grant such abilities to them.

Unfortunately, those massive eyes didn’t seem inclined to answer questions.

After giving the angels, dragons, and saintesses a moment to adapt to the powers of the mark, the Demon King’s voice echoed again across the entire level.

“The Mark of Wisdom I grant you will allow you to harness the powers of the Oniric Truths that will present themselves in the trials and will fade once the trial ends.

As for the rules of the Blood and Hunger Trials, they are as follows.” Immediately, the eyes of the dragons, angels, and saintesses sharpened, their full focus on the following words.

They were already marked, and it didn’t seem they had a choice whether to participate or not in the trial, so it was better to understand it fully.

“Each level will present the same trial for all of you, but you will take it in parallel dimensions, so you will only be able to rely on yourselves.

The dangers you face are real, and there is no safeguard, so death is a possibility.

There is a time limit to finish each trial, and if you fail to complete the level within the allotted time, you will be disqualified.” Solemn expressions appeared on everyone’s faces as they heard the rules.

The dangers in the trial could claim their lives, and if they were too slow, they would be disqualified.

While the voice did not clarify what being disqualified meant, they could only assume the worst.

It was becoming clear to all just how ruthless the Blood and Hunger Trials were-or at least that was what they thought until they heard the next part.

“At the start of each trial, there will be a portal.

If you choose to use it, you will be expelled from the castle.

Being disqualified also means being expelled from the castle.

Good luck.” With those final words, the eyes vanished, and the massive gate began to open, revealing a swirling mass of darkness that seemed to lead to the next level.

None of the dragons, angels, or saintesses moved as they were still trying to get over the shock.

Cain and the Ancient Dragons looked at each other, simply too baffled by the sudden turn of events and even more so by the attitude of the Demon King.

That entity was supposed to be an overwhelming evil warrior who spread death and destruction millions of years ago, yet now he presented himself as an incredibly generous figure who granted them the ability to perceive the principles of the universe and whose trial would force no one into danger they did not accept.

However, while it would be a lie to say they weren’t interested in the Blood and Hunger Trials, the dragons and saintesses did not move, solemn expressions appearing on their faces.

No matter how kind the Demon King presented himself, he was still part of the enemy force that faced the Dragon Empress Tiamat and the Three Moons Goddesses, so they were not sure whether or not they should participate in this trial.  However, not everybody faced the same ethnic dilemma.

Not even ten seconds after the gate opened, Helios dived forward, accompanied by all the angels still alive.

The young Archangel’s eyes were filled with pure thrill and absolute desire, as it seemed he had found what he had been looking for his entire life!

Cain and Meylin were surprised by Helios’s sudden move and the Sun Church’s disappearance.

Before they could even say a word, they vanished into the darkness.  A deep frown appeared on the scarlet dragon and the Sacred Saintess of the Three Moons as they looked at each other.

After a short, silent exchange, they nodded.

The move of the angels forced their hands, as they could not allow Helios to become the winner of the Blood and Hunger Trials.

They would have to march forward as well.

“Be careful and conscious of your own limitations,” Cain addressed the group.

“If you feel you cannot push forward, allow the countdown to take you out of the trial or use the portals at the start of the level to leave.

There are myriad ways to become more powerful, but death will erase them all.” Eldrick, Zalgrim, and the other Ancient Dragons showed solemn expressions as they heard Cain’s words and nodded.

The weight of his advice was not lost on them.  Meylin glanced at the saintesses, her eyes sharp as he spoke with focus and determination.

“We cannot let fear dictate our actions,” she said softly.

“But neither should we be reckless.” After that, she stepped forward, her dual-colored eyes reflecting the swirling darkness of the gate Once everyone was ready, Cain and Meylin glanced at each other once more.

Without further hesitation, they moved forward along with their forces, crossing the portal into the Blood and Hunger Trials.
