Chapter 1269: Change in tactics (II) Chapter 1269: Change in tactics (II) “Just when I thought I had things figured out, it changes,” a rueful smile appeared on Cain’s face.

He did not allow distraction to cloud his judgment.

Pushing his focus to the limit, he tried to figure out a path forward.

“THUMP!

THUMP!” The sound of massive feet cracking into the ground grew closer, each step increasing the pressure on the scarlet dragon.

But his eyes remained sharp, not allowing any hesitation or distraction to cloud his thoughts.

As he pushed his focus and wisdom to the limit, Cain’s eyes glowed with enlightenment.

He concentrated on the strongest of the White Humanoids, channeling all his energy, bloodline force, and soul force into this one while invoking the power of Imperator.

The White Humanoid trembled under the influx of power surging into its being.

Then, a massive scream of agony erupted from it as a mark began to appear on its face.

Intricate lines etched themselves into its pale skin, forming a complex sigil.

It was not the first time Cain generated the brand, and he was much stronger than before.

However, the process consumed a massive amount of energy, but he succeeded in branding the White Humanoid with the mark.

The Mark of Abaddon allowed Cain to read the mind of the vessel and share its view-something that was not particularly useful since he already had a spiritual connection with the White Humanoids.

However, that was not all the Mark of Abaddon could do.

As soon as the Mark of Abaddon appeared on the White Humanoid, its body began to tremble violently.

Thanks to their spiritual connection, Cain was able to understand the feelings and sensations assaulting the creature.

What he felt could be described in one word: hunger.

A sharp light appeared in Cain’s eyes as he remembered how Zero had related the same affliction, although it had taken much longer to take effect in the old man.  ‘Maybe its unique physiology accelerated the process.’ These thoughts crossed Cain’s mind, but he didn’t allow himself to be distracted-time was of the essence.

“Since you’re hungry, then eat,” Cain uttered coldly.

Immediately, the White Humanoid that had been branded acted.

It reached out toward one of its kind, gripping it by the neck and swallowing its entire body in less than two seconds before moving on to another.

There was no emotion in Cain’s eyes as he witnessed the carnage.

Since the Black Monster was impervious to attacks below a certain threshold and numbers were no longer useful, he would focus all his power on a single entity.

If they just consumed each other, Cain didn’t think it would be enough, but with the enhancement in devouring power granted by the Mark of Abaddon, it would hopefully be sufficient.

One after another, the White Humanoids vanished inside the maw of the vessel of the Mark of Abaddon, but there were thousands of them.

Cain frowned; even if it only took a few seconds for each, it would not be nearly close enough to its goal before the Black Monster reached them.

The Eye of Gluttony glowed as he attempted to connect with the bearer of the Mark of Abaddon, tapping into its energy.

The White Humanoid trembled for a second as the Scarlet Flame inside its chest flared intensely.

Its back arched grotesquely, muscles contorting under the strain.

Suddenly, whips of scarlet light burst forth from its spine, writhing like serpents made of pure fire.

These fiery tendrils lashed out in all directions, connecting to the surrounding White Humanoids.

The moment the tendrils touched them, they were pulled violently toward the central figure, their bodies disintegrating into streams of energy that flowed along the scarlet whips.

The scene was intense and shocking.

The air crackled with raw power as the Scarlet Flame consumed the White Humanoids en masse.

The tendrils moved with terrifying speed, ensnaring dozens at a time, reducing them to nothing more than fuel.

A vortex of scarlet light formed around the central Humanoid, illuminating the dark landscape with an eerie glow.

The White Humanoid with the Mark of Abaddon began to mutate and tremble as its body enlarged and grew more massive, bulging in all directions as if it were about to explode at any second.

The skin cracked in places, emitting beams of scarlet light.

 Cain’s eyes were sharp as he observed the transformation and how the White Humanoind would not last much longer before exploding.

He was not surprised; indiscriminate consumption had a backlash, but that was why he had placed the Mark of Abaddon on the White Humanoid-to control the process.

The Eye of Gluttony glowed brighter as Cain focused all his power on the White Humanoind that had become nothing more than a bulging mass.

He attempted to give it a sense of order, to guide the influx of energy through the power of the Mark of Abaddon.

Cain could feel the chaotic energies swirling within the creature, threatening to tear it apart from the inside.

Sweat formed on his brow as he concentrated intensely, channeling his will into stabilizing the monstrous form.

“THUMP!

THUMP!” The sound of the footsteps of the Black Monster was approaching, coming closer and closer, its towering frame already casting a dark shadow over Cain.

The ground shook with each step, but he did not lose focus.

Finally, the Black Monster was in front of Cain.

Without hesitation, it sent its massive, gargantuan palm toward the scarlet dragon, the power behind the strike making the very air tremble with immense momentum.

If Cain could move or attack, it would not be a problem, but immobilized, there was little he could do.

Yet there was no fear in his eyes-he was ready.

-BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM- A massive kinetic explosion took place, but the palm did not reach Cain.

Between the two stood someone else-a white figure with horns and scales, majestic wings unfurled, and a sharp tail lashing behind.

The impact sent shockwaves rippling outward, the ground beneath them cracking and splintering.
