Cain had used overwhelming power and control over the fundamental principles of reality to shatter the fabric of space, creating a portal between their current location and a distant point.

It was something all present had seen multiple times, but supreme powerhouses like Bahamut or Alune usually performed it.

Yet here was the dark dragon, even younger than all of them, able to achieve such a feat.

Of course, the portal Cain forged lacked any proper guidance and would leave them at a random point, but it would still help them reach the Blazing Wastes much faster.

“Let’s go,” Cain shouted to the group as he and Meylin were the first to move through the portal.

They were the strongest and could handle things if there was trouble on the other side.

They stepped into the swirling vortex, sensations of dislocation washing over them as they traversed the fabric of space.

Luckily, there was no problem, and the entire battalion of dragons and saintesses arrived on a desolate mountain range.  “Everyone remain within my perception,” Cain’s voice was sharp and cold as he glanced at the dragons and saintesses.

They were less than an hour’s flight from the Blazing Wastes, so anything could happen.

They had to be alert as they flew forward.

Shattering space once more would be too dangerous-they could end up in the middle of a battlefield or a trap-so it was best to fly from here on.

The dragons and Saintesses all nodded to Cain’s words as they marched forward as a team, their energies ready to explode at any second and their instincts sharp.

The air was tense with anticipation.

Cain’s eyes were the sharpest, his energy rising higher and higher as the scarlet flames continued consuming the angels inside his stomach.

The power he absorbed fueled him, and finally, a meaningful light appeared in his eyes as he saw what seemed to be a setting sun that covered the landscape in the distance.

“Is that…

the sun?” one of the dragons murmured, squinting at the horizon.

“But it’s midday,” a saintess replied, confusion evident in her tone.

“Why does it look like sunset?” That sight confused many, as the sun was at its highest point right now, so they could not understand that gargantuan phenomenon.

Unlike the rest, Cain already understood what was happening, so he was not surprised.

After a few more minutes of flight, they saw what could only be described as a massive white sun covering every inch of the Blazing Wastes.

The intense light bathed the barren land in a blinding glow, making it difficult to discern any details beyond the radiant barrier.

“What in the world is that?” Eldrick asked, his eyes narrowing as he tried to pierce through the glare.

“The Sun Church’s doing, no doubt,” Meylin said grimly.

The next second, powerful auras approached the group, but no one was worried as they belonged to the Grand Elders of the Tiamat Sect and the Void Eclipse Saintesses from the Moon Cult.

They descended gracefully, their expressions a mix of determination and concern.

Cain’s eyes widened as he focused on Bahamut.

He saw a flaming cut on the face of the dark obsidian dragon that seemed to have taken his right eye.

“Your eye!” Cain exclaimed, a mix of shock and concern in his voice.

“Hahaha, this is nothing,” Bahamut replied with a hearty laugh.

The massive dragon’s voice echoed like rolling thunder across the mountains.

“I lost my right eye, but that pigeon lost his right arm and lung.” Bahamut noticed the shock on Cain’s face upon seeing his wounds, so he chose to lighten the mood while also making it clear that Michael had not come out unscathed from their clash.

“By the way, do you know what this defensive formation is?” Bahamut focused on Cain, gesturing toward the blinding light of the massive white sun.

Many of the Void Eclipse Saintesses from the Moon Cult could not help but be confused as they saw Bahamut asking that question to Cain.

The young man had not been even a decade in the Helix Continent, so they could not believe he would know the secrets of the Sun Church that even they were oblivious to.

Yet, not even a second later, Cain gave an answer.

“That is the Sun Church’s Divine Shield,” Cain said calmly.

“It is considered their ultimate defensive card, encompassing the entire Blazing Wastes, and it could be kept active for…” Cain made a small pause at this point as he calculated something before finishing his sentence.

“Forty-two years and nine and a half months.” Bahamut raised an eyebrow, impressed by the precise information.

He knew the young man was good at unveiling secrets and gathering information, which was why he asked that question, but even he was surprised by such an accurate and detailed description.

“Are you sure about the timeline?” a melodious voice asked.  Cain’s eyes narrowed as he heard that question.

It was not that they doubted his words but that the one who made it was no other than Lady Alune herself.

There was no way Cain would have forgotten about the prophecy scheme from the woman, but it was not the time to address those topics, given the state of the war.

He saved things for later and gave an answer.

“The Sun Church’s Divine Shield works by consuming the life and soul of the ordinary citizens that inhabit the Sun Church Domain,” Cain explained, his voice steady.

“It consumes fifty billion every month, so Michael and the Archangels could indeed keep the formation active for more than forty years.” Shock appeared on the faces of the dragons and Saintesses as they heard those words.

Even the most brutal and bloodthirsty among them were stunned that such an evil formation would exist.

“Fifty billion souls every single month?” Eldrick muttered, disbelief etched on his features.

“The brutality and cruelty of the Sun Church to its own people is something even a fiendish monster would find stunning,” Amara said, her eyes reflecting a mix of horror and anger.
