The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1373
Chapter 1373: Gu Sect (III) Chapter 1373: Gu Sect (III) Cain nodded, satisfied, and handed Lupion’s corpse to the old man.
Becoming an elder was what he had aimed for, and he was pleased he only had to reveal one corpse, allowing him to keep Lotario’s corpse hidden.
He did not really care if people knew he had killed other Godslayer Humans, but Lotario had been a Middle Divine Transcendence Master, and his body remained intact, a feat that could raise many eyebrows.
Even a Late Divine Transcendence Master would find it extremely difficult to leave behind such a perfect corpse, and displaying Lotario’s body might incite the curiosity of the Third Realm powerhouses in the sect.
Cain did not wish to deal with that kind of scrutiny-not so soon, at least.
As for Martis, the old Hell Clan member who had just recorded Cain’s merits, he was oblivious to all these calculations.
He seemed not to care about what Cain chose to reveal or hide.
He simply stored Lupion’s corpse and then handed the young man a space ring. “This is your Sect Space Ring.
In it, you will find your rewards for becoming an Outer Elder; with it, you can access the Gu Sect Interface.
You can take missions, hear about important announcements, and access some shops there, among other things.” Martis handed over the space ring without further ceremony.
It was clear that the old man did not want to bother with members of the light races any more than necessary.
Cain, for his part, had no desire for idle chatter.
He took the ring, placed it on one of his fingers, and walked a few steps away.
Once he had created some distance, he focused his mind inward, sending his consciousness into the space ring to inspect its contents.
Inside, he found several items of interest.
First, there was a emblem that marked his identity as a Outer Elder together with a small gem.
Next, he spotted three tickets of some kind, though he would need to examine them more carefully later.
Finally, and most impressively, he found fifty strange spheres glowing with radiant, nebulous spiritual energy.
A wide smile arose on Cain’s face as he recognized the spheres: they were Spirit Cores.
Spirit Cores were the main currency for Divine Masters in the Nine Empyrean Suns World.
Much more valuable than wave crystals, even the supreme kind, Spirit Cores nurtured the soul force inside one’s Sacred Organs, greatly enhancing cultivation speed and quality.
According to the knowledge Cain had gathered from the stolen memories of the Inferno Dameons and Lotario, just ten Spirit Cores could buy a Peak Divine Transformation treasure, while one hundred Spirit Cores would be enough for a Divine Transcendence treasure.
Of course, these prices applied to common treasures, as World Treasures could cost tens or even hundreds of times more.
‘With the ones I took from the Inferno Daemon trio and Lotario, I now have two hundred and fifty-four Spirit Cores.
I guess I am quite rich,’ Cain thought.
A small smile appeared on his face as he considered his newfound wealth.
He did not linger on that thought for too long, though.
There were more important matters to attend to.
He turned his attention to the tiny gem.
Pouring his mind into it, Cain immediately felt information flood into his consciousness.

These were the rules and codes of the Gu Sect, etched into the gem so that any new member could learn them quickly and without confusion.
He perused the sect’s regulations carefully, noting their nuances.
Most of the rules were what one might expect from a sect of this caliber.
However, there were certain differences that caught Cain’s attention.
The Gu Sect did not care what its members did in their day-to-day lives, but Outer Elders were required, every ten years, to fulfill at least ten Gu Missions if they wanted to remain in the sect. Regarding battles, despite the Gu Sect promoting internal strife and infighting to strengthen its members, it was very strict about random murders inside the sect grounds.
Killing someone without a legitimate reason was punishable by death.
This rule was crucial, as it prevented the sect from descending into utter chaos.
However, there was a formalized mechanism for conflict: the Gu Challenge.
A Gu Challenge allowed one sect member to challenge another to a fight they could not refuse.
It was a direct, brutal way to settle grievances or prove superiority.
Of course, even this challenge had rules.
First, one could not challenge someone of a lower tier.
For example, as an Outer Elder, Cain could challenge other Outer Elders and potentially Inner Elders, but not mere disciples.
Second, issuing a Gu Challenge required paying a tremendous amount of wealth to the sect, and for Outer Elders, that meant two hundred Spirit Cores per challenge.
Finally, a person could only receive one Gu Challenge per year, which had to be done face to face.
If the target were in secluded cultivation, then the challenger would have to wait until they emerged.
The more Cain learned about these rules, the wider his smile became.
The Gu Sect was precisely the kind of place where he and Levithan could prosper.
Conflict was encouraged yet regulated.
Strength was valued above all else, but careful planning and understanding of the rules were crucial.
This environment suited his cunning nature perfectly.
He would be able to navigate the sect’s hierarchy and conflicts, rise in power, acquire precious resources, and forge a foundation for the future.
Cain put the emblem in his robes, turned forward and was about to walk into the sect’s territory when a thought crossed his mind.
He paused, narrowing his eyes and turning to gaze at the dozens of Divine Ascension and Divine Transcendence Masters scattered around.
Just moments ago, some had dared to mock him, but now none dared to meet his gaze. He recalled their earlier jeers and how easily their mocking words had silenced once he proved his might.
While the Gu Sect forbade random murder inside its walls, what happened outside was another matter.
He could choose to hunt down anyone who offended him at a later time, and everyone present knew it.
Fear and caution now reigned where casual mockery had danced moments before.
Cain waved his hand, taking a Spirit Core from his space ring.
He let the nebulous orb hover in front of him, its radiant spiritual energy shimmering in the air.
He spoke, his voice calm and clear, making sure everyone could hear him.
“I need a guide,” Cain said, glancing around at the silent crowd.
“Someone who knows the ins and outs of the sect.
Who is willing to gain a Spirit Core for a few hours of work?” Greed immediately sparked in the eyes of many who observed him.
A single Spirit Core was an immense fortune for anyone below the Divine Transcendence level, especially for those in the Divine Ascension realm.
It could mean a leap forward in their cultivation, a better chance at advancing or acquiring an invaluable treasure.
Yet silence reigned for a few tense moments.
The people knew Cain’s strength and knew he was now an Outer Elder.
Approaching him meant taking a risk.
What if this was a trick to lure them into conflict?
Still, a Spirit Core was too tempting a reward to ignore. Finally, one cultivator mustered the courage to step forward.
