The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1423
Chapter 1423: I want evil treasures Chapter 1423: I want evil treasures A sharp light crossed Cain’s eyes the moment he heard Lady Azure’s words.
Technically, he had infiltrated the old Anima’s faction under the order of the Night Prince, so attacking the man’s faction was a massive conflict of interest.
Luckily for Cain, the Power of Order instantly hid that flicker of intensity, leaving his face cold and aloof.
He was determined to ensure that Lady Azure noticed nothing amiss in his reaction.
The old Anima, her gaze as keen as a razor’s edge, observed Cain’s unwavering calmness and offered the slightest nod of approval before continuing.
“The Night Prince is the greatest dark horse in this Gu Contest, and it is paramount we clip his wings before he rises too high.” Her voice retained its usual kindness and generosity, yet a concealed brutality underpinned each syllable.
The suffocating tension in the air was enough to stifle weaker cultivators.
Of course, such suppressed bloodlust wasn’t enough to unsettle someone like Cain.
Still, a small frown appeared on his face.
“Why go after the Night Prince’s men?” he asked plainly.
A sharpness appeared in Lady Azure’s frown as she heard that question since it seemed like Cain was trying to deter her from going after the Night Prince.
However, before she could respond, Cain pressed on.
“Why not kill the Night Prince directly?
That would force his entire faction to crumble rather than merely weaken it.
I’m an expert in assassination.
If you manage to weaken him, I can make sure he never leaves the battlefield.” Cold and brutality arose in Cain’s eyes, his aura making it clear he meant business. Lady Azure’s eyes widened at the brazenness of the suggestion, and then a broad smile graced her features as she gently shook her head.
“I like your style, young man, but it won’t be so easy.
The Night Prince possesses powerful treasures that can preserve his life.
After all, even if the Nightmare Kingdom is currently just a Holy Tier Organization, they once had a Third Realm Master leading them.
I cannot risk sustaining severe injuries before the Gu Contest begins.
So, for the time being, we must concentrate our power on his people.” She paused briefly, her motherly smile widening but tinted with a somber aura.
“However, when the time is right, I will make sure to remember your words.” Cain merely nodded, withholding any other input.
He recognized that Lady Azure had weighed the dangers of facing the Night Prince head-on and decided that a direct strike was too perilous.
Her reasoning made sense: if the Night Prince possessed ancient treasures inherited from the Nightmare Kingdom’s peak era, a hasty move could leave her severely wounded and vulnerable in the lead-up to the Gu Contest.
For now, targeting his subordinates was the most logical path.
Taking his cue, Lady Azure continued.
“The Night Prince’s delegation in the Golden Lake has fifteen people, but I only care about three of them.” She waved her hand, manipulating her energy to form the outlines of three figures-two Godslayer Humans and an Anima.
Their images hovered in midair, detailed enough for Cain to observe facial features and likely details about their postures.
“They are, in order, Alonz, Goldker, and Zafira.
The first two are Late Divine Transcendence Masters, effectively the muscle of the Night Prince’s faction.

The last one is an Early Divine Transcendence Master, but she’s a master strategist-one of the faction’s key thinkers.
Of the three, Zafira is the one I want dead most urgently, though she’ll also be the hardest to eliminate.
She’s heavily guarded and surely has many powerful treasures.” Cain nodded in acknowledgment.
His gaze turned razor-sharp as he memorized the three faces and any distinctive traits Lady Azure’s illusions revealed.
Satisfied that he understood, Lady Azure paused only briefly before continuing.
“Your chance will be during the Golden Lake mission, but it won’t be straightforward.
While the sect typically doesn’t mind bloodshed outside our borders, this time, we’re on a mission against the Golden Star Kingdom.
Killing is strictly forbidden, so no one must find out.” A slight frown deepened on Cain’s face as he realized how much more complicated the assignment had become.
The young man locked eyes with the old Anima for a few moments.
Finally, he voiced his conditions with a tone that made it obvious they were not negotiable.
“I can accept this mission, but let me be clear: I want my reward if they die, regardless of how it happens.
Even if their deaths appear unrelated to me, I expect my payment.” A flash of sharp light crossed Lady Azure’s eyes at his blunt demand.
Clearly, Cain wanted to ensure he would be compensated whether or not he could provide proof of his involvement. The woman was no fool-she knew death could come in a multitude of ways and that Cain might have cunning strategies to avoid exposure.
After considering his words, she nodded softly.
“As long as they die, you will receive your payment.” Cain allowed himself a small smile, moving on to another point.
“Regarding the payment, I want evil treasures-the darker, the better.” An inquisitive gleam flickered in Lady Azure’s eyes at that request, but she refrained from asking questions.
She recognized that certain demonic or devil-cultivation techniques demanded precisely such malevolent resources.
While Cain hadn’t shown overt signs of following that path, it was none of her concern.
“Fine.
I will reward you with something on par with a High-Grade Star Soul for each one of them you kill.
And if you manage to take down all three, I will grant you a reward five times greater.” “That is fair enough,” Cain replied, a faint smile of satisfaction forming as he nodded.
“Excellent.
You should remain in the sect for now.
You and the rest of the delegation could depart at any time within the next two months.” “Understood,” Cain said.
“Then, with your permission, I’ll return to my residence and await your signal.” He turned on his heel, not wasting another moment.
As he exited, Lady Azure watched him go.
A razor-like gleam crossed her gaze.
The next instant, she summoned a massive golden coffin from Aladon’s space ring.
Her eyes glowed, and the powerful seal that seemed to harness energy at the Third Realm level disintegrated instantly.
