The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1426
Chapter 1426: A precarious, multi-layer mission Chapter 1426: A precarious, multi-layer mission “The Night Prince sent you a message.” The words reverberated in Cain’s mind, conveyed by Apex.
Whatever thrill or excitement he had felt upon obtaining the Nightmare Heart dissipated the instant he heard them. Cain gave a small nod, his expression turning cold.
“Yes,” he said quietly.
“He’s letting me know he keeps his word-and that he can reach me even inside the sect.” A dangerous glint crossed Cain’s eyes, hinting at how he felt about the Night Prince’s veiled show of power.
But rather than dwell on the matter, he pushed it to the back of his mind.
There was no question the Night Prince was dangerous, yet Cain also knew he wouldn’t make a direct move-at least not as long as Cain remained useful.
Taking a moment, Cain examined the rest of the package.
Besides the Nightmare Heart, there was a crystal about the size of a baby’s fist.
Cain’s demeanor sharpened as he picked it up, and at once, the Night Prince’s voice emerged from within.
“Brother Laurifer, it’s been a while since we last talked.
I hope my gift satisfies you.” Cain inspected the crystal closely, noting that it emitted no magic or electromagnetic waves that might alert other sect members to their communication.
Unlike standard A.I.
Chips or computer rings, this item was discreet-another sign the Night Prince took great precautions to keep their talks hidden.
‘As cautious as always,’ Cain thought, allowing a small smile to curve his lips.
Then he spoke aloud, addressing the crystal.
“Night Prince, your gift is truly wondrous, to say the least.
You actually caught me at the perfect moment because I have troubling news.” The Night Prince’s usually jovial tone shifted at once.
“Oh?
And what might that be?” Cain did not hesitate.
“Lady Azure wants me to kill Alonz, Goldker, and Zafira during the Golden Lake mission.” A brief silence told Cain the Night Prince was processing the revelation.
Then, the voice from the crystal cut through with a growl of fury.
“That bitch!” Rage and killing intent seeped into each syllable, though it swiftly turned to a more controlled coolness.
“And what did you tell her?” Cain sensed the Night Prince’s cold anger, but that only made him smile.
“I told her that I’ll do it.” Just as the Night Prince began to issue a sharp retort, Cain continued.
“Of course, if you don’t want me to do it, I can refrain.
But that would be the same as revealing to everyone that I’m working with you.” Silence momentarily pressed in from the crystal as though the Night Prince weighed his options.
When he finally spoke, his tone had turned composed once more.
“What does Brother Laurifer suggest we do, then?” Cain smiled, though there was no warmth in it.
“Even if I put on a convincing performance-acting as though I really tried to kill your people but failed-I’d lose all of Lady Azure’s trust.
Then I’d be useless as a spy.” He paused a second, letting that logic sink in before continuing, “I think the best approach is for me to kill some of them-maybe I can kill the woman and let the two Late Divine Transcendence Masters survive, making it seem they were too powerful for me.” “That won’t work!” The Night Prince’s voice sliced through Cain’s suggestion.

“Alonz and Goldker, you can go after, but Zafira cannot be harmed.
In fact, you must ensure her survival in case the old witch sends other assassins after her.” Cain frowned at the complexity of that demand.
Sparing Zafira was one thing, but also protecting her-without exposing himself-would be no small feat.
He said nothing, giving the Night Prince time to organize his thoughts.
The voice in the crystal softened, though it still held an undercurrent of danger.
“I’ll see you well rewarded for your trouble, Brother Laurifer,” the Night Prince added.
“And if you manage to take out Renan, I’ll give you even more.” Cain’s brow furrowed at that name.
He recognized it from the memories stolen out of Aladon’s mind-Renan was a Late Divine Transcendence Master, but more significantly, she was one of the Tribulation Enhancement Masters aligned with Lady Azure’s faction. “I heard she’s on the verge of a breakthrough in her Tribulation Enhancement abilities,” the Night Prince explained, frustration creeping into his voice, “and I can’t allow such a powerful weapon to remain in the old witch’s service.
She’ll probably try to draw inspiration from battle and the phenomenon at Golden Lake to advance further, so she’ll be there alongside you.” Cain remained silent, calculating the best course of action.
Alonz and Goldker had to die to appease Lady Azure-but at the same time, Zafira had to remain alive so that the Night Prince wouldn’t turn on Cain.
Now, Renan has been added to the list, making the mission even more lethal.
At last, he nodded in acceptance.
“I accept both missions.
In return, I want evil treasures-the darker, the wickeder, the better,” Cain said, his mind still on the sacrifice for the Samsara Arsenal. “Evil treasures?
Hahaha, excellent,” the Night Prince’s voice emanated from the crystal with a thread of dry amusement.
“If there’s one thing the Nightmare Kingdom has in abundance, it’s vile artifacts and twisted relics.
Keep Zafira safe, kill Renan, and I’ll reward you handsomely.” Cain let his lips curve into a satisfied smile.
“Then we have an agreement.
Until next time, Night Prince.” Concluding the conversation, he shut down the crystal, letting its glow die out.
He stood there, mind racing with possibilities and dangers.
On one side, Lady Azure demanded that Alonz, Goldker, and Zafira all be eliminated, and on the other side, the Night Prince insisted Zafira must live, while Renan had to die.
The puzzle was how to arrange these kills and saves so neither side suspected he was betraying them-while maximizing his gains.
It was a precarious, multi-layer game, requiring illusions, cunning, and impeccable timing-but if done correctly, the rewards would be immense, enough for him to obtain a powerful Gift from the [Samsara Arsenal Module].
