His reaction wasn’t born of affection but of duty-and fear.

While Arakos’s official role was to guide their group and assist the Gu Sect in this campaign in the Golden Lake against the Golden Star Kingdom, Lady Azure had made it crystal clear that his true mission was to protect Renan at all costs.

Renan was in a critical stage of her Tribulation Enhancer’s training, and Arakos didn’t even want to imagine the consequences if she were to perish under his watch.

Her instincts, however, screamed danger, forcing her to remain conscious.

Through her blurred vision, she caught the silhouette of the Godslayer Human charging toward her, his fist radiating with destructive power.

Renan mustered the last vestiges of her strength and raised her hand, summoning a shield of water.

The conjured barrier materialized just in time.

“BOOOOMMM!” The Godslayer’s strike collided with the barrier and shattered it instantly, but not before diverting the blow from her head to her chest.

The deflected attack struck Renan’s chest, breaking every bone within and sending her flying backward.

Blood erupted from her mouth in great spurts, mingled with fragments of her shattered internal organs.

The sight brought a feral grin to the Godslayer Human’s face.

Victory seemed assured.

He sought to close the distance to deliver a killing blow, but just as he lunged forward, Arakos’s Divine Phantom intervened.

The massive construct, burning with newfound intensity, lashed out with overwhelming force.

Its glowing arms struck the Godslayer Human, pushing him back and halting his advance.

From his hidden position beneath the Golden Lake, Cain observed the unfolding battle with a calculating gaze.

His expression remained impassive as he noted Arakos’s desperate actions.

The Anima had begun burning his life force to repel the Godslayer Human, abandoning caution to scoop up Renan’s battered form and retreat from the battlefield.

With his mission partially complete, Cain decided it was time to leave the battlefield.

Manipulating the surrounding space and time, he moved toward the shore with breathtaking speed, leaving no trace of his presence behind.

High above the lake, Arakos continued his desperate flight.
