The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order - Chapter 1548
Chapter 1548: Killing spree Chapter 1548: Killing spree Karlo lay bleeding on the scorched ground.
A gaping wound carved deep into his chest that reached all the way to the bone.
As if that weren’t bad enough, the energy from Cain’s previous attack had rippled through his body, sealing his meridians and paralyzing him from the neck down.
Helpless, he could do nothing but stare in abject terror at the figure descending toward him from above.
Even though he was a Late Divine Transcendence Master-a man who had taken countless lives, subjugated entire cities, and ruled over millions of souls-Karlo felt only dread in his heart at this very moment.
The young man approaching him was the embodiment of a nightmare.
“Mo…
Monster!” That single word tumbled from Karlo’s lips, reflecting the horror he felt.
To him, Cain Laurifer was no mere cultivator but an unstoppable force, an entity beyond comprehension.
Cain heard Karlo’s feeble cry and offered a small smile.
His gaze, though not overtly cruel, radiated a sense of inevitable finality.
“Monster, hmm?
That’s a subjective term.” His voice carried a cold edge.
“For some, a monster is the embodiment of nightmares.
For others, it can even become a hero.
I suppose, for you, it simply means death.” As soon as those words left his mouth, Cain’s eyes glowed with an eerie brilliance, releasing a wave of soul force that slammed into Karlo’s mind.
The Godslayer Human didn’t even have the chance to resist.
In a fraction of a second, he fell unconscious, his awareness forcibly snuffed out.
But that was only the beginning.
Cain pressed the advantage.
With Karlo’s consciousness submerged, he launched a soul invasion.
Had Cain’s Ego Eternal Path of Power been operational, he would have employed the Eye of Gluttony.
But since that was not possible, he resorted to the more primitive method of forcibly scouring Karlo’s memories-techniques he had learned from Lotario.
Karlo’s body twitched, muscles seizing in unconscious agony as Cain riffled through his soul and mind, extracting any useful information.
Memories flitted past like shadows in a mirror-faces, locations, and secrets that Karlo had guarded for years.
This process was crude and offered little beyond raw memories, but given the circumstances, it was the best Cain could manage.
Minutes stretched on.
The desert winds howled across the blood-soaked sands as Cain’s invasive exploration continued.
Nearly twenty-five minutes passed before Cain’s glowing eyes dimmed, and he exhaled, indicating that the mind-probe was complete.
“That’s enough.” He could feel Karlo’s life force fading.

The Godslayer Human had reached the end of his tenuous rope.
“So that’s everything you knew.” Without further ceremony, Cain shrugged, then picked up Karlo’s corpse.
He removed the man’s spatial ring, storing it away before sending the corpse into his Luminous Phoenix Heart.
In moments, the corpse was gone, leaving behind only a wave of vitality that surged through Cain.
He directed that healing energy into the stump of his right arm, funneling it to accelerate the regeneration of his missing hand.
As warmth and tingling spread through his injured limb, Cain sifted through Karlo’s memories.
A subtle grin formed on his face.
It seemed that Alucard of the Eclipse School was directly responsible for spreading Cain’s name across the Everlife Continent, broadcasting news of his incredible feats to all who would listen.
But one name in particular drew his attention.
“Marlin.” She was the Third Realm woman who had once thought she could hunt him down like a dog.
A glint of cold fury flickered in Cain’s eyes at the memory.
It was not a fury borne of blazing anger but of icy resolve-the kind that waits patiently for the right moment to strike back with a force that could shake continents.
Exhaling slowly, he pushed aside his vengeful musings for the moment and focused on present needs.
“System, analyze all the memories I took from this man, and search for information on people from Sorcerer’s Hand and the Gu Sect.” An instant later, the robotic voice of the Absolute Life Form System echoed in his mind, as clinical and efficient as always: [Task assigned.] While the System scoured through the raw data Cain had taken from Karlo’s fragmented consciousness, Cain allowed himself a moment to reassess the battle.
“My offensive battle power alone appears to be around the lower end of a Peak Divine Transcendence level-perhaps a bit lower if I don’t factor in my Primordial Eyes and the ability to see an enemy’s flaws.
But as for my defensive prowess…” He raised his hand, touching once more where the man’s fist had landed, and saw how even the soreness was gone.
“The Flow technique and the Second Level of the Indestructible Herculean Technique give me near-immunity against standard attacks from a Peak Divine Transcendence Master.
Unless they possess overwhelming Laws or specialized methods, it’s almost impossible for them to cause me serious harm.” A small smile touched his lips.
Though this wasn’t enough to make him invincible, it was more than sufficient for his immediate goals-particularly in the Gu World.
Besides, the faster he killed, the more quickly he would heal, and the sooner he could return to his peak.
[Task completed.] The Absolute Life Form System’s voice chimed in his mind, feeding condensed intel back to him.
The next second, a torrent of information flooded his consciousness-everything Karlo had on Sorcerer’s Hand and the Gu Sect was now organized, ready for Cain to scrutinize.
“Good.” A cold smile crossed Cain’s features.
He had new leads, contacts, and locations to pursue.
There was no time to waste.
He took a single step forward and vanished from the area, leaving only whirling sand behind him.
Over the next two months, Cain hunted his targets one by one, moving in the shadows, eliminating specific individuals connected to either Sorcerer’s Hand or the Gu Sect.
He always kept a low profile, ensuring that no rumors spread about his activities.
Right now, most people likely believed he was too gravely injured to take the initiative.
That false sense of security gave him a perfect window to consolidate power, gather intelligence, and plan his infiltration of the Gu World in time for the infamous Gu Contest.
