Chapter 1553: Distraction and infiltration (II)
The fear of Cain was a reason for the pact between the Night Prince and Elder Azure. It was not formed out of trust or camaraderie but rather out of sheer necessity. Their alliance would last only until they reached the Gu World. Until that moment, they would do everything within their power to prevent Cain Laurifer from reaching the teleportation formation.
Their preparations had been meticulous. Every available warrior, spy, and scout had been positioned around the city, ensuring that no individual, no matter how skilled, could slip through undetected. Additionally, the formation of the Gu Sect had been specifically attuned to Cain’s soul aura, life force, and bloodline, making it impossible for him to go unnoticed if he came anywhere near its range.
However, despite all these precautions, the Night Prince and Elder Azure knew that while such measures would be enough to deter most individuals, they might not be sufficient against someone like Cain. This was not an ordinary cultivator or an upstart challenger; this was a man who had managed to go head-to-head with a Prima Deity and survive. That alone was a testament to his terrifying strength and cunning.
Luckily for the Night Prince and Elder Azure, they were not alone in their apprehension. Though neither of them dared to look directly upward, they could feel the presence of another figure looming high above the city. The only individual who could position themselves above the Faction Leaders of the Gu Sect was a Patriarch—a Third Realm lifeform.
Everyone already knew the Third Realm Masters had a vested interest in Cain Laurifer’s death. There were even rumors that some of them had sought the assistance of expert trackers to locate the young man, yet their efforts had yielded nothing. Cain had remained elusive, constantly slipping through their grasp. Whether those rumors were true or mere speculation was beyond the knowledge of Soul Realm Masters like the Night Prince and Elder Azure. But one thing was certain—the tension in Gu City was at an all-time high.
More and more people poured into the teleportation formation, their numbers overwhelming the city’s capacity. Every second, tens of thousands disappeared through the massive portal that led to the Gu World. Yet, despite the flood of movement, no one let their guard down. Ego Waves and scanning spells flooded the area, analyzing every individual with excruciating precision. Every movement was scrutinized, every anomaly examined. There was no room for error.
Hours passed. Five, to be precise. By this point, nearly sixty percent of the travelers had already teleported away. Everything had been going smoothly—until it happened.
A red light suddenly flooded the sky above Gu City, casting an eerie glow over the ancient stone walls.
It was an alarm.
Somewhere within the city, the scanning devices had been triggered, detecting an anomaly. And in the minds of every cultivator present, only one name surfaced.
Cain.
Elder Azure and the Night Prince exchanged sharp glances, their expressions hardening. Their communication gems were directly connected to the city’s defensive systems, and within seconds, they pinpointed the source of the detection— the southern gate.
However, before either of them could react, someone else had already moved.
A figure appeared in the sky, his speed defying reason. He resembled not a man but a child, no older than ten years old, with fiery red hair, golden eyes, and a dark robe that shimmered with an ethereal glow. Yet despite his youthful appearance, the power he exuded was so immense that it was akin to standing in the presence of a cosmos.
The boy-like figure spoke no words. Instead, in a flash of movement, he vanished and reappeared at the periphery of the colossal city, arriving there in less than a millisecond. His golden eyes flared, and the Laws of the Universe raged around him, swirling like an uncontrollable storm.
His focus immediately locked onto the source of the detection—a middle-aged man with short black hair dressed in the robes of a Divine Ascension Master from one of the many Holy Tier Organizations under the Gu Sect’s banner. On the surface, this man bore no resemblance to Cain Laurifer, yet the scanning formations had detected Cain’s soul aura, bloodline, and life force within him.
A disguise.
At that moment, every important individual within the city turned their focus toward the southern entrance, none daring to blink. They all knew—if a Prima Deity made a move against a Soul Realm Master, the outcome was usually predictable.
But this was Cain Laurifer.
Even if his disguise had been compromised, he was still not someone to be trifled with.
The child-like Prima Deity understood this as well. His aura surged, power radiating from his small frame as he prepared to go all out from the very beginning. He was not about to make the same mistake as Marlin.
And yet, before he could unleash his attack—
The middle-aged man exploded.
The Night Prince and Elder Azure recoiled in shock, but they were not naïve. They understood instantly—this was a distraction.
And before they could continue that train of thought, far in the distance, a figure rose into the sky.
A young man with white hair and nebulous eyes, his body bathed in flames, stood there for just a moment. He cast a sharp glance at the Gu Sect, his expression unreadable.
Then, like a falling star, he flashed into the distance, vanishing at a speed beyond comprehension.
The real Cain!
That single thought rippled through the minds of everyone present.
And in the next instant, they understood what had happened.

Cain had used the middle-aged man as bait, a test subject to gauge the capabilities of Gu City’s defenses. What he had discovered was that they were far too powerful, even for him. And so, rather than risk a direct confrontation, he had chosen to retreat.
The child-like Prima Deity could have given chase, and under normal circumstances, he would have. But just as he was about to move, he froze.
A memory surfaced in his mind—the dismembered body of Marlin.
That hesitation was enough.
He watched, teeth clenched, as Cain’s vanishing figure disappeared over the horizon. In the end, he did nothing. He merely sneered, turned away, and returned to his station above the formation leading to the Gu World.
