Chapter 1563: Fire and death
“He is not flawless or unstoppable. Had he been, he would not have dodged those energy beams or changed course when the force field went up,” Karun carried on, his voice reverberating across the ruined battleground.
A spark of grim determination flickered in the eyes of the Divin Masters as they heard those words. Cain Laurifer was a genuine legend, a menace so powerful that he earned the title The Monster, yet he was not an invincible god. He could bleed; he could be forced to retreat. If he had to dodge, if he had to reposition, then he wasn’t untouchable.
Still, a moment of hesitation gripped the weaker members of the alliance. They entertained fleeting thoughts of escape: perhaps if they scattered, they could slip past Cain in the chaos. Yet, before anyone could commit to a single step, a cold, unyielding voice descended from the sky above the drifting clouds of smoke.
“For those of you contemplating running away… I will kill you first.”
Those words froze the battlefield. Normally, when confronted by a massive coalition, a single warrior might try to sow doubt and division among the ranks, hoping to break their morale. But Cain’s approach was the opposite—he deliberately backed them into a corner.
Fear and rage flashed across the faces of many warriors. Deep sighs echoed among the ranks of the Divine Ascension Masters, who clenched their fists and teeth, understanding the harsh truth: if they fled, they would be singled out and destroyed immediately. But if they fought with everything they had, at least there was a chance—however slim—that some might survive.
Thus, more than one hundred thousand Soul Realm cultivators gathered behind Core Elder Karun. The man from the Abyssal Clan, clad in obsidian armor that radiated an aura of doom, surveyed the sky with narrowed eyes. He did not fully comprehend Cain’s mindset, nor did he particularly care to. Karun had a single purpose now: to rally every surviving fighter, every ounce of fortitude, in a last stand against the unstoppable force bearing down on them. That was the only viable path left.
“Fight with every scrap of strength in your body!” Karun roared, voice crackling with the power of his Soul Force. “Burn your life force without restraint. This is no time for fear or hesitation—only death awaits the coward!”
A wave of determination pulsed through the crowd as Karun’s thunderous shout dispelled the flames still dancing on broken pillars of ice and stone. Those who heard him felt a grim unity overtake their despair. Threads of life force converged into Karun’s Rebirth Heart, causing his Star Power to surge, shimmering with lethal potential.
“ARGGGGGGHHHH!” Karun roared again, propelling himself into the sky in a single explosive motion. The massive bastard sword clutched in his hands gleamed with sizzling black energy, crackling with the essence of his Death-type Star Power. Below him, tens of thousands of cultivators followed suit, releasing blasts of life force that made the air quiver.
Cain’s gaze turned razor-sharp as he observed the colossal army surging upward. It would be a lie to say he felt no pressure at all; though he had triumphed in countless struggles, the combined might of a hundred thousand Divine Cultivators was not something to dismiss. Even his near-indestructible body could be overwhelmed if he took them too lightly.
Yet, that was precisely what he craved: the exhilaration of a high-stakes fight. He needed that kind of life-or-death pressure to push him beyond his current limits, just as his previous battles against the Third Realm women had awakened deeper reserves of potential within him. It was in that dire confrontation that he tapped into waves of power he hadn’t known he possessed.
“BOOOOMMMM!”
A pillar of milky-white energy burst forth from Cain’s body, the Unified Origin Force coursing through his flesh, blood, and Inner World. Behind him, the phantom of a massive extraterrestrial dragon materialized, flickering with cosmic light. As Cain dived downward, each passing second caused his aura to mount exponentially, filling the skies with a tangible tension. He was a meteor crashing to earth, unstoppable and incandescent with raw power.
The battlefield erupted before the two sides even collided. The Essence Evolution Masters within Karun’s army unleashed a torrent of spells—lightning bolts crackled, firestorms swirled, and waves of chaotic wind howled in a kaleidoscope of destructive brilliance. They aimed to seize the initiative, hoping to distract Cain long enough for Karun and the other Peak Divine Transcendence Masters to launch coordinated strikes.
Cain’s eyes narrowed as he confronted tens of thousands of incoming spells. Fewer than a dozen could actually injure him, but he saw no reason to let them land. Instead, he roared—a deep, guttural sound amplified by the Law of Shadows. That single sonic attack tore through the air like a living thing, devouring every lesser spell in its path.
“ROOOOOOAAAARRRRR!”
Karun and the other Divine Transcendence Masters tried to brace against this roar and protect the other, but the shadowy properties embedded within it gave the sound an ethereal, penetrating edge. It seeped through their defenses, bypassing protective wards and slamming into the cultivators behind them.
Immediately, the light vanished from the eyes of countless Divine Ascension Masters, who plummeted to the ground in lifeless heaps. In one cataclysmic stroke, Cain had reduced the enemy force from more than a hundred thousand warriors to fewer than twenty thousand.
Then came Karun’s furious bellow: “Kill!” His Gu Insect—a grotesque fusion of beetle and scorpion—glowed with an eerie brilliance, funneling its power into Karun’s body. Veins bulged along his arms, and his skin took on a metallic sheen. With a savage battle cry, he swung the massive bastard sword, unleashing waves of Death-starved energy.
Cain responded without a trace of hesitation. The Shooting Star Dragon Halberd hummed in his grip, wreathed in blazing Star Power intertwined with the Laws of Fire, Shadow, Space, and Time. Sparks of cosmic light crackled along its gleaming edge as he brought it down in a powerful arc to meet Karun’s attack.
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!”
An immense detonation of fire and death rippled through the sky as the two weapons clashed. The sheer force of their collision carved out a localized vacuum that flung nearby cultivators away as though they were weightless.
At the epicenter of that chaos, Cain and the Inferno Daemon glared at one another, their weapons locked in a deadlock. Both channeled waves of power into their strikes, but neither could immediately overpower the other.
