Alucard paused briefly, his gaze distant and reflective.

His eyes darkened once more, and his voice trembled subtly with renewed grief.

Cain wasn’t particularly moved by Alucard’s heartfelt story. It wasn’t because he lacked compassion or empathy, but simply because he hardly knew Alucard, had never met the woman and was not an emotional little girl. “You are correct, of course,” Cain conceded calmly. “But what if you were not alone? What if it wasn’t merely a single ArchDeity calling for change, but two—or even ten ArchDeities united in purpose?”
