Chapter 1716: Vs Peak Prima Deity
Michael’s eyes narrowed sharply as he realized Zoro was not pursuing him. Injured from their brutal engagement and significantly drained of energy, Michael had fully expected the Inferno Daemon to chase after him, seeking to deliver a decisive finishing blow. Yet strangely, that pursuit never came.

“Odd,” was the solitary word the Deus Behemoth chose to describe this unsettling situation.

Numerous questions flooded his mind, but Michael knew better than to linger on such puzzles while his wounds remained severe. Priorities dictated his survival and recovery above all else.

He moved swiftly and silently away from the chaotic battlefield surrounding the Twin Dragons, the intensity of the battle fading steadily behind him.

As Michael ventured deeper into the territories of the Endlessdeath Continent, an ominous expanse came into view, sprawling endlessly before him—a sea of pitch-black miasma known notoriously as the Encroaching Darkness.

This terrifying place was said to be the final resting ground of an ancient ArchDeity, a location shunned by Divine Cultivators, including even powerful Prima Deities, who feared becoming eternally trapped within its oppressive gloom.

As a Peak Prima Deity, Michael did not share the intense dread that most cultivators felt regarding this cursed miasma. He understood its dangers intimately but also had confidence in his immense strength, knowing it was unlikely to permanently imprison him.

Yet, despite his assured capability, Michael was cautious, unwilling to take unnecessary risks, especially given his wounded state. With careful deliberation, he ascended slightly above the suffocating dark fog, intending to circumvent the hazardous region.

However, Michael had barely advanced a few meters when an urgent disturbance shattered his calm. Narrowing his eyes further, he scanned the distance intently.

To his surprise, he soon glimpsed the battered figure of Jarkal desperately fleeing, gravely wounded, with a gaping hole in his abdomen where his stomach should have been.

Jarkal, evidently noticing Michael, began to frantically scream in genuine terror.

“Lord Michael, please save me!” His voice cracked with desperation and profound fear. “He’s right behind me!”

Michael’s focus instantly sharpened as a second figure emerged, streaking behind Jarkal with merciless speed—Cain Laurifer.

Cain surged forward relentlessly, his eyes filled with murderous intent, his Shooting Star Dragon Halberd blazing fiercely with an intensity capable of incinerating entire regions.

After witnessing Jarkal decisively kill Martin during their previous battle, Michael’s earlier suspicions about Jarkal had vanished entirely. Now fully convinced of Jarkal’s loyalty, Michael instinctively moved to intervene.

Yet at that very moment, his instincts erupted violently within him, warning him of imminent danger.

His pupils narrowed to points of golden brilliance, releasing an ethereal radiance that sought to reveal the absolute truths.

Suddenly, Michael’s realization exploded forth in a roar: “An illusion!” With growing horror, he understood that Jarkal’s frantic plea and Cain’s menacing chase had been mere figments of deception, skillfully crafted mirages designed to ensnare his senses.

Yet even as the revelation struck, Michael understood bitterly that it came far too late. From behind him, Cain Laurifer had already closed the distance silently, launching an attack filled with devastating momentum.

The Shooting Star Dragon Halberd descended upon Michael like a comet, promising catastrophic destruction.

Michael instantly recognized that dodging was impossible. However, resignation was not his way; even cornered, the Deus Behemoth would never surrender easily.

Radiant golden energy enveloped his body protectively, a shield forged from pure divine power, while he shifted his stance slightly to protect his head, choosing to sacrifice his right shoulder instead.

Cain’s eyes flashed with triumph as his Primordial Eyes pierced Michael’s defenses, identifying their precise vulnerabilities. With unerring accuracy, the halberd tore through the divine radiance, striking deeply into Michael’s shoulder.

The young man and Deus Behemoth plummeted violently, disappearing into the suffocating depths of the Encroaching Darkness, their forms swallowed by the dense, oppressive miasma.

Michael clenched his teeth in agonizing pain as the halberd penetrated deeper, tearing through flesh and sinew, scraping against bone. Shock and disbelief flooded his thoughts; he couldn’t comprehend how easily Cain had bypassed his formidable defenses.

Yet, the Deus Behemoth quickly suppressed his questions, understanding that survival required immediate retaliation.

With a surge of determined fury, Michael unleashed a devastating punch imbued with blazing, white-hot energy—a strike delivered with unimaginable speed and power.

Even enhanced by The Flow, Cain barely managed to react, hastily withdrawing his halberd just before it could fully sever Michael’s limb, positioning the weapon as a shield against the impending blow.

“BOOM!”

A violent explosion of scorching plasma erupted upon impact, hurling Cain backward tens of thousands of meters. The force behind Michael’s strike was tremendous, causing Cain’s arms to tremble violently and his bones to almost crack under the strain.

Yet, Cain’s determination remained unbroken. With impressive discipline, he swiftly regained control of his tumbling body, adopting a battle-ready stance instantly, eyes blazing fiercely, locked unflinchingly upon the Deus Behemoth.

Michael glared back coldly, his gaze icy yet wary, slowly shifting his attention to their new environment. All around him stretched the suffocating darkness, impenetrable even to his divine sight.

His eyes glowed again with radiant golden brilliance, striving desperately to pierce through the encircling miasma—but the attempt was futile. Nothing was visible beyond the engulfing darkness.

At that moment, Cain’s calm voice resonated ominously through the shadows, filled with chilling confidence: “Trying to escape this place is impossible during a fight, so you might as well abandon any thought of fleeing.” His calm, measured tone carried across the battlefield with daunting certainty as he raised his halberd, readying it for another assault. “Only one of us can leave here alive—and I fully intend for it to be me.”

Michael’s gaze snapped back toward Cain, acknowledging grimly the truth in the young warrior’s words. There was no escape from this dark prison while locked in combat. To attempt it would be suicidal, leaving him vulnerable and exposed.

Yet Michael was far from intimidated. His expression hardened into cold determination, unyielding and fierce as he accepted the inevitable challenge. “Fine then,” he declared resolutely, voice echoing powerfully in defiance of the oppressive gloom. “You shall have your fight. But mark my words, Cain Laurifer, it will be your head rolling across the ground when all this is over.”
